“Surfing at Costa Azul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

To my understanding, there are four spots you can surf at in "Costa Azul". Zippers, Pescaditos, The Rock, and Acapulquito.

The spot is easy to find. Coming from the Airport, you will come up to an off-ramp that goes into a dried riverbed. You can take it and park by the beach (WATCH FOR BROKEN GLASS!)
If you see the "Zippers" sign on the left side of the road, you've passed it, there will be an opening on the divider wall where you can make a u-turn and take the off-ramp right by the sign.
Coming from San Lucas, all you do is look for the sign and take the off-ramp.
When you park, right in front of you and to the left a little, is Zippers, Pescaditos is to the right, in front of the restaurant called Zippers.
The Rock (La Roca) is further out than pescaditos by the obvious rock.
And Acapulquito is further north up the beach.

I only surfed Pescaditos and the waves were better than what I'm used to. Tho, the days I surfed, it was rather inconsistent.
Apparently, Zippers likes low tides, Pescaditos just a bit higher, the rock high tides and Acapulquito, I have no idea.
The vibe was friendly for the most part at Acapulquito with just a few bad vibers. Most of the surfers at Pescaditos when I was there were adept/intermediate/beginners. Very few were really really good.
We topped at about 12 surfers at one point when the lessons were in session in Pescaditos alone. We averaged 5 surfers and at one point I was there by myself!
The Rock had an average of 18 surfers when I was there.
Most of the really good surfers were at the Rock when I was there.
They say the restaurant offers rental boards but I rented from the Costa Azul store on the other side of the road. (you can cross under the road)
The boards are in excellent shape, good selection and at good prices.
The staff at the store was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended you pay them a visit.
Also, pay a visit to the restaurant just to the left of the store (while facing the store)
Their ceviche is off the hook!

“Beautiful area of the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

We've been coming here for six years now and of all the beach areas we've seen this is our favorite. There is a dry creek bed coming into bay that leads into a canyon you can hike into for about an hour when you will reach a small waterfall.

“on the sea of Cortez”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

The Costa Azul (the Blue Coast) is gorgeous! Surrounded by mountains in the distance and on the Sea of Cortez, it is a long white sandy beach on which many resorts are situated. You can
take in the beauty of the Costa Azul at a look-out point just outside of San Jose del Cabo.

“Costa Azul Surfing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Several members of our family decided to take surf lessons from Costa Azul Surf Shop. Our ages ranged from 11 to 52. Every one of us managed to get up on a wave. Some better than others. The Costa Azul Surf Shop Staff could not have been better. The lessons were spot on, even for a old 52 year old. They provided shirts, boards and shoes. We all had the a great time and a nice work out paddling back out to the waves. The water and weather was fantastic and we all definitely do it again.
