I visited the Palmilla Golf Club in November, 2012. It is no surprise to me that there are three "five star" reviews ahead of mine--this course is a gem.
The course is a $30 cab ride from the ship dock. You are met at the driveway by bag boys who take your clubs, put them on a cart, and meet you at the bottom of the hill. Checkin is a snap and the main people golfing on this course when I was there seemed to be locals that have an annual membership.
The cart guys are most friendly, and offered all kinds of help.
The driving range is a bit away from the clubhouse, but not objectionably so.
There are three nines. I played Arroyo-Mountain. This is an excellent course, was almost empty on the day I played it (I was waved by a threesome, and a very nice twosome invited me to play through shortly thereafter. They were the only people I saw on the course).
There are some fairly long forced carries, and a hole or so where you ask yourself what club will get you downhill on a 150 yard carry. I chose too little club, and ended up in an obscured trap.
The course advisors are friendly, helpful and available. This is a Troon course, and works to Troon standards (which are, IMO, high standards).
All in all, this was a great day of golf on a fast play course. It was a huge amount of fun--and I shot well!
