We have been to Las Ventanas before for my 40th birthday with 2 other couples and it was absolutely perfect. I'm not sure why I didn't post a review back then but now I feel that I must to simply say "thank you" to the people at Ventanas. We originally booked our spring break trip with another family (between the two families we had two 12 year old girls and two 18 year olds) and decided that we would try Esperanza. Las Ventanas is very adult oriented--we like it that way but thought that maybe Esperanza would be a bit more "family friendly." Well, it was definitely that--in fact in was more like Orlando. So we called Las Ventanas and begged them to bring us "home." I will say this about Esperanza--the management was extremely apologetic about the service (or lack there of) and we worked out arrangements for an agreeable credit for us as well as the resort so for that, it was fine. And if you've never been to Ventanas, you'd probably think Esperanza is great. But Ventanas.... oh Ventanas....
I was stunned they were able to accommodate the 8 of us--the rooms were fantastic. My family stayed in one of the oceanfront suites in front of the adult pool and the other family stayed in one of the 2 bedroom villas--a little bit further back from the ocean but still wonderful.
The food at Las Ventanas is great (and yes expensive but please don't go here and stress about how much things cost, just don't go if that's a worry)--my favorite meal was breakfast!! Everything is fresh, tasty, and it always is followed with a "it's my pleasure" We ate at the pool for most lunches--the fish and shrimp tacos were awesome. For dinners, we ate at the Sea Grill, the Restaurant, but also went over to the One & Only at Aqua (fantastic!!) and Local 8 in San Jose (which is amazing too) One thing I did notice at Palmilla--it's a very large resort--very spread out--and lots of families for Spring Break.
Had a massage in the spa and also a couples massage in our suite one afternoon. I was a little unsure of this one but it turned out to be fantastic. We had our own "spa" music playing; they brought an aromatherapy candle and it was beautiful listening to the waves of the ocean with our doors open.
But the main thing that sets this resort above all others--and we have stayed at many Four Seasons properties, St. Regis, Ritz Carltons--is the people and the attention to detail. This obviously starts with the management. You are always greeted by any of the staff-- from the gardeners to the managers on property with a friendly "buenas dias". There is a mood that Las Ventanas has created--we call it "subtle elegance" From the candles they light at night to the soft music playing during dinners-- it's simply beautiful. I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff--from MariaJose; our butlers, Cynthia & Roberto, our previous butler Mario who came to find us and say hello, our friend's butler Oscar; Paloma, Guadalupe, Hector, Juan Luis, Pietro, and the rest of the gang at El Restaurante; the pool attendants, Oscar, Josue, Ernesto, Jesus, Alexandro, Edgar, & Juan--I love all of them; Dulce and Samantha are the sweetest!! Yes you too will be on a first name basis with everyone before you leave.
I will say this--this is not a resort for kids. Ours were old enough and well-behaved enough to hang out by the pool, listen to ipods and chill out. There were other families there but this was probably due to it being spring break. And most of the kids there were well-behaved. There's just not a lot for kids to do here. The ocean is too cold and too rough; no kids club, no game room and you should know that the majority of the people that come here are "sans kids". I was very nervous about having my 12 year old there but they loved it. If you want family friendly, I'd go to One & Only--the service is great and I don't think you'll worry about being the only one with kids there.
But if you truly want to experience the best that Cabo has to offer--don't go anywhere else but Las Ventanas. I'm counting the days til we go back!!
