My husband and I stayed at this hotel from May 20 - 30, 2008. As a person who has traveled all over the world for business and been fortunate enough to stay in some of the best hotels and resorts in numerous cities such as London, Paris, Hong Kong, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc., the service at the Marquis deserves the five star rating it has earned. The staff from the minute we got there until the minute we left was absolutely wonderful, warm, friendly, accommodating and took care of every need we had. There were MORE THAN enough staff everywhere we went: pool, restaurants, front desk, housekeeping, concierge, etc. In fact, my husband and I joked that we were convinced the housekeepers cleaned our room and replaced our towels every time we stepped out. The pool staff were always on hand to take our order and were very swift with their service - we never waited 45 minutes for ANYTHING the entire 10 days we were there. The resort was absolutely spotless and we even saw a maintenance person scrubbing the decorative rocks. The suite was comfortable with very nice furniture, bathroom, etc. (the size of the suite was smaller than other suites I have stayed in however) - our suite was on the fifth floor and we had no problems with plumbing or any issues with our final bill at checkout. In fact, the hotel comped us for transportation from the airport and the breakfast buffet every morning (in addition to the fruit, pastries and coffee delivered to each room every morning) I didn't notice a problem with the pool temperature but almost all of the time we were there, the weather was in the 90s...the temperature of the pool was great for cooling off in those conditions. Overall, we had a great trip and would stay here again.

“Some good reasons to stay away!!!”

With Palmilla booked up we decided to try the Marquis. There are several reasons we will not return. Unfortunately, this hotel's general policy of cutting corners and "questionable" advertising seem to send the red flag warnings of a hotel chain in some financial distress. Our experience definitely confirmed an overpriced but underserviced resort:

The rooms are nice, and the views are spectacular. But don't think that the "junior suite" is a suite...of any kind. It is a room. A single, rectangular hotel room. O.K., so they embelish a bit. Our fifth floor room had plumbing issues: noise through the pipes like a toilet was running. We soon discovered that all of the fifth floor rooms had this annoying problem. Our move to the fourth floor was better.

More significant was the failure to heat the pools...at all. We did see multiple trip advisor warnings about the cold pools, but most indicated some degree of temperature control in two of the three pools. This was not the case with our stay.

We own a pool, and know about heat and temps. All three pools were completely without heat, and were really unswimmable at all. In fact, nobody (not even the few children there) could bare the frigid water for more than a minute. Actually, over three days, only three people were even brave enough to go for it. Hardly what one would expect from an upper tier resort.

The pool service was terrible: 45 minutes to get a drink...worse for food, and there was almost nobody there! Only one waiter for the entire resort. The hotel was only at 30% capacity on a weekend...with all neighboring hotels packed. Disturbing, but with reason. Almost all of their business is now coming from large corporate takeovers (we narrowly missed the one exiting, and the next one arriving shortly after our departure. This hotel would really be miserable if your stay overlapped with one of these (which was stressed in previous trip advisor reviews.)

Lastly, there was a mysterious "error" on the hotel bill in which our untouched mini-bar had miraculously tallied up $67 of charges, which added insult to injury. They were quick to remove the charges when we brought it to their attention, but it seemed to be a "mistake" that they were clearly familiar with.

In summary:
You will love this resort if:
A) You have no intention of getting in the water. It is far too cold for all but the most steadfast of polar bear.
B) You are fortunate enough to miss the never ending onslaught of corporate conference business, which is garaunteed to ruin your stay.
C) You don't mind getting your own food and drink poolside...or waiting until you nearly parish to get it.
D) You don't mind giving the Marquis carte blanche with your credit card if you fail to thoroughly review your check out bill.
E) You like your hotel "suite" to mascarade as a standard room.
F) You like ocean sounds, but prefer the drone of a running toilet.

As experienced travelers, we will not be returning to the Marquis anytime soon.

This resort was great! The pool is huge overlooking the ocean and beach. The restaurants were very nice and the staff was wonderful. The lobby is wide open overlooking the ocean - it was amazing. We had a great time and the concierge was very helpful. As for activities, go fishing and use pochos.com - we caught two marlins. It was a fabulous vacation - no complaints.

“Wonderful Experience”

Marquis Los Cabos

My wife and I just returned from a long weekend at the Marquis, and we both loved the place. The design of the hotel is very dramatic - the open air lobby is absolutely spectacular! The rooms are spacious, very well designed, and beautifully furnished. Each one has a view of the sea and a small balcony. We were on the top floor, but I don't imagine that the view would vary much for rooms on any of the other floors.

The staff was very attentive. Check-in and check-out went without a hitch. Housekeeping seems to visit the rooms about 3 times each day, and everything is kept in top condition. My wife didn't care for the firmness of the mattress, so she requested a foam top, which was added cheerfully and efficiently. Little pastry's/sweets are brought during turn-down and the morning sweet rolls/fruit/coffee are a nice way to start the day, although I wish they would bring more coffee and vary the sweet rolls a bit more from day to day - but this is a minor quibble

We ate one night at the Vista Ballenas restaurant, and both of us enjoyed our meals. Likewise, we ate lunch poolside a couple of times and the lunch food was terrific. I just loved the fish tacos and my wife's grilled scallop salad was excellent, as were the margaritas. We also ate the breakfast buffet on our last morning there and the food was quite enjoyable.

The workout facility is large and the equipment is all pretty new. The spa is really beautiful - my wife got some sort of wrap, and she enjoyed it. This place is a perfect place to unwind and relax.

The concierge desk is very helpful and made reservations for us at Agua (at Palmilla) and La Panga, in San Jose. Both restaurants turned out to be very nice, and we were treated extremely well at both places. We rented a car, and took excursions into Cabo San Lucas and San Jose, but we probably could have gotten by just as well taking cabs. After all, what spent most of our time doing was lounging by one of the three pools, which are very pretty.

This hotel is perfect for couples wanting to get away and relax. It does not feature loads of activities and excitement that might appeal to teenagers or older children. The beach immediately beyond the hotel is not swimmable - the waves are big and there is a strong undertow. But if that is important to you, there is a swimmable beach about a ten minute walk away, by the Hilton.

This is not an inexpensive hotel, but it is far less costly than Palmilla or Ventanas. It is also far more stylish than the Hilton. I think it is likely that we will return.
