This place is stunning! Upon arrival you are greeted with a half glass of champagne and pleasant attendants. The arrival area is gorgeous! An open half moon structure with a straight view to the ocean. Our room was ready and when we walked in we were very very happy! Super clean, very quiet and with a large king sized bed separate jacuzzi tub shower and toilet. It had an open flow through so you could chat /see your partner while in the bathtub or shower unless you closed the curtains. It was night when we arrived but in the morning when we opened the window curtains , wow. Just WOW. We saw whales in the ocean spouting on a DAILY basis. On to food.. also great!! i was wary at first of the all inclusive but this place rocked it! The breakfast buffet was great and very large and varied but the dinner restaurant selections were even better! The hibachi place was yummy the grill was good but the french place was AMAZING. Im from NY and have very discerning taste but this place was on par with an upscale NYC restaurant. Definitely try it! The alcohol was also free flowing and they have some great top shelf brands so i never felt badly hungover. The pool view is really stunning as well. We didn't have to get out to early to have a great seat either. Its a very chill pool scene no loud music or dancing or anything like that. This place is low key, so if you want to go out and party at all you will have to take a 20 min cab ride into town. The servers everywhere were always very nice and helpful and that is KEY to me when i stay somewhere. Oh and try the gorgeous spa! The massages were just so so good!
All in all i will come back here for sure when i come back to Cabo ANYTIME!

Room Tip: All the room face the ocean so every room is stellar!!

My now husband and I stayed there the week of September 18th, 2012 for our honeymoon. Overall, we had a wonderful time! Pros: They have a decent staff to stayers ratio. Most of them are very hard workers-the waitors worked so hard and much-they were even sweating in the crazy humidity. Great food, we loved the vista ballenas restaurant the most! Sometimes, it's a little wait, but not too bad. The portions could be a little bigger. But all-inclusive is definitely the way to go! We loved being able to go out without having to remember anything. The pictures seem to do the place justice. The rooms are large, and have a beautiful ocean view-all of them! We never saw any whales or anything though. The beds were average. It's always a good idea to have a room on one of the higher floors-you don't have to wait long for the elevator. We did not get the honeymoon suite, and we are glad we didn't. They are on the 1st floor, so you don't get much privacy even with your own private pool-everyone walks right past you. Not worth the price. The pools are huge-wonderful, they look like they pour into the ocean. The service at the pools is not as good as elsewhere. We asked for just water most of the time, and they never came back multiple days in a row. They have these little "nooks" at the doors where they put your breakfast in so they don't have to bother you in the morning. No one told us what they were for, so we put some of our belongings in there. You could clearly tell they were ours and still in use. But they took them all and put them in the trash. Luckily, we told the desk about it, and they recovered it (even though it took some time). They do have a business center where you can print things free, and stuff. Cons: september was soooo hot! We didn't go out much, not even to the pool because of this. It was like 100+ every day! Just too hot for comfort. They have a few activities, but not that much of a variety. No kids, so it is quieter. It is about 25min from the city. Tip-take the bus instead of a taxi-saves you biggie time. This resort is also not near much of anything. But if you want to just get away and relax-this is the place. The tubs and showers are nice and big. It was a little awkward that it was just open. TV's do need to be updated, and to be bigger. I wish there was dvd players. You can't swim in the ocean-it's mainly just for looks-too dangerous with the riptides. You wouldn't want too anyway the way it looks. But this was very disappointing for me, cause that is one of my fav activities. We booked on bookit.com, got a fairly good deal we thought because it came with like $200 in reward coupons. It's a total of that amount, but they separate them and you cannot combine them-so it's like $10 here, $20 here. Not cool... The resort is clean, and designed nicely as well. The A.C worked great, and was so lovely! It won't work if you have the balcony doors open at all though. After being other places recently, my husband and I can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Always good to choose a higher floor for the view. Don't get the honeymoon suite-not worth it...

We stayed in another larger all inclusive resort in Cabo last year and decided to pay more for a nicer one this year. The rooms and bedding were better, entertainment was better, and the food was the same or slightly less impressive. Breakfast bar was a dissapointment. We never got a good steak at any of their restaurants. Seafood was all good.

We stayed 6 nights and virtually every night the temperature was a bit cool which will carry some weight when we decide where to go next year. On 2 different nights the resort paid a decent amount of money to bring in good entertainment (dancers). My wife and I huddled under a space heater and enjoyed both. They hired a band to play on the beach on Fat Tuesday night but only 10 people went out there because it was 65 degrees and breezy.

We had no option but to pay an additional $40 per night for ocean front because they had high occupancy on the weekend. Our room was on the 3rd floor in the center which was nice, but I got the impression that those would be considered "ocean view" if there was a higher vacancy rate. My suggestion is to go Ocean View since all rooms face the ocean.

Only $2 per person via the public bus to get to San Lucas or San Jose so that was a piece of cake. perfectly safe.

So bottom line is that we will probably go further south to Puerto Vallarta or Ixtapa next February where it is consistently warmer.

We had never been to Cabo, and picked the Secrets Marquis Resort based partially on Trip Advisor ratings. The resort was awesome! The resort is clean and well maintained, the food was very good compared to past vacations in other parts of Mexico, and the service was top notch. The only buffet is in the morning, no others for lunch or dinner (which was nice). We are the kind of couple that vacations to relax, so we don't do a lot of side trips/activities. This resort was quiet and relaxing, but had options for people who like to do things. The pool was nice, and the pool staff were great!! The beach is nice, but swimming is not an option due to strong currents. Our room was very nice, with the trademark "Secrets" morning coffee, danish and fruit delivered each morning. Watching Whales from our deck was fun in the morning. Night life is limited to one bar and limited entertainment, but Cabo is a 20 minute cab ride for the wilder people. If you want a quiter resort to relax, I highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: All rooms are ocean view with a patio or deck. Great views!

Just returned. Took my in-laws who are in their 80's.
The Resort is amazing.
Great rooms with sunrises from your balcony
Coffee & fruit delivered every AM at 6:00 to your Nook - so we could watch whales
Food is an 8 out of 10 (and we go to 10's)
Service is spectacular
Resort is small enough so everything is close (great for my in-laws) and you get to know your neighbors
Rooms are very spacious and well appointed
With all inclusive - all the staff are eager to feed and serve you - and no bother giving you a bill and asking for tips
Avis rental car on permises

Items needing impovment
Gym should overlook the water and not be in a basement
Beds are on the "firm side" but still comfortable
Menu at pool bar should have healthier items - but staff will go to any other restaurant and get what you want - with "No Problemo"

Also - Seeing the Super Bowl on the BEACH was AMAZING!!!!!! Staff went all out

Thanks to all the staff!!

Room Tip: We had a Ocean Front King Suite - 5th Floor (Top)

We just returned from our trip a few days ago. We didn't want to leave. Every year we take a vacation to an Island or Mexico. This trip topped them all! Beautiful resort, great food, great service! I read some of the negative reviews and it blows my mind.

Pros - room was big and clean; loved the bed, very comfortable to me and my husband; heated infinity pools were gorgeous; pool service was great - fish tacos are to die for, I had them all three days for lunch poolside; all the waiters knew what a skinny margarita was; quiet crowd; lots of activities if you wanted to do anything; my husband liked the gym while I enjoyed my skinny margaritas poolside; great food - I wasn't crazy about the Pan-Asian food, but it wasn't bad; room service was quick - never waited more than 30 minutes; coffee and bread every morning at 6 am was a nice touch; whale watching from your balcony and from the pool; beautiful walk on the beach

Cons - the bathroom setup and the outdated TV...oh, and the horse poo on the beach. People pay to ride horses at the beach. Companies should be required to clean it up.

We also did a whale watching tour with Whale Watch Cabo and it was amazing!

We loved this place so much that we are planning a trip back next year and have invited friends!

Room Tip: Go for ocean front junior suite!

We started out booked at Dreams, but after watching reviews plummet here on TA, we chose to upgrade to this Secrets property. We have stayed at Secrets before in Cancun and had an excellent experience. Their trademark is "my pleasure" when you thank them for something. It apears that the switch to a Secrets property is relatively new for Marquis, as we noticed a high level of attention to detail, with Cesar walking around talking to guests and managing the teams(managers asked us more than once how things were going, we noticed a review team eating breakfast one day, etc.).

Anyway - if you read no further, here's our summary:
Pros
Great ocean front location - we watched dolphins and whales every day, it was SO cool
Absolutely stunning salt water pools (two) that appear to disappear right into the ocean
The entire place was extremely clean
A high ratio of staff members per guest
Quiet (maybe too quiet for some, but we slept well) not only property wide but in our rooms we never heard people in the hallways or next door, which we like
A few activities to keep us from going too crazy, like a SuperBowl beach party and buffet
A truly kind and friendly staff
Decent food (more on that later) including amazing ceviche prepared a number of ways
Good alcohol selection
Safe
Great gym (not smelly, good ventilation, cold cucumber water and plenty of equipment and weights plus tvs)
Ample chairs with no reserving allowed - staff would also help you find some whe you arrived at the pool. They would insist on helping us move umbrellas and kept us well stocked with water.
We loved waking up with a pot of fresh coffee, fruit and rolls waiting for us in the little cubby.
Not crowded at all anywhere, so it had a peaceful, relaxed vibe
Huge spa tub in our room in addition to a lovely shower and twin sinks
Never had to wait more than 45 seconds for an elevator to our fourth floor suite
Speedy check in process, unlike some huge all inclusive
The crowd felt a little classier than some resorts - I appreciated that women wore cover ups to lunch (I've been at places where every jiggly body part was on full display even at the table), and there wasn't a lot of heavy smoking or loud drinkers (at least not that we noticed). Everyone seemed well behaved, considerate of others and civilized, which we really enjoyed.
Internet worked everywhere
Nice free toiletries, including sunscreen which was a nice touch - and people used it, it wasn't icky or cheap, it smelled good
Didn't need to make annoying reservations for dinner or even worry about it except at Spice. The boutique quality of the resort meant there was plenty of room for everyone anytime. You'll appreciate that if you've ever stayed at a resort where you had to jostle for a table or only got a limited number of reservatiosn - ugh
Housekeeping did a great job.

Cons (these are hardly worth mentioning, really, in light of the pros)
The TVs are outdated and HBO doesn't appear to be included unless you pay, but we hardly watched TV
The bed was a little uncomfortable for me
The food was amusingly inconsistent but always good (for instance we ordered the tortilla soup every day and sometimes there was cheese, other times none, sometimes sour cream, other times none...)
You had to pay for internet use (but we clearly got a deal because they comped us one 4-day pass and then we used some coupons to buy the other days) - I think it was $10 per day per device per day, but again, they usually comped us one device free and we also used our coupons for the rest
It was sometimes annoying you had to re-enter your internet passcode a few times a day for it to keep active
If you wanted to go to Cabo SAn Lucas, it was about 1/2 hour away, so if that's your thing, this might get expensive to take the cab
If you're looking for a party resort this is NOT for you! Most of the people were our age (mid-40s) and up...
Didn't appear to be a dinner buffet at all, just plated meals - no big deal, but if you love to belly up to the buffet, they only had that for breakfast.

Regarding the restaurants, we loved Dos Mares the most. Like most resorts like this, the selections were similar from place to place, but always good. My husband wore a collared shirt to dinner at night, which might be required (we checked out the requirements online before we left). Jackets for men are not required.

We ate a few times at the pool. Adalberto was our favorite guy at the pool. They waited on us hand and foot, bringing place mats, fabric napkins, real china and silverware. Some days it was lovely to just lie back and let them bring us lunch!

If you have drink preferences, including watching sugar, ask the servers. I heard a woman order a skinny margarita and asked for one too, but hadn't seen it listed anywhere.

Last comment - the bathrooms are the same as the other Secrets. But there ARE doors to the toilet, it's just a frosted glass door. There is a regular wooden door from the hallway into the entire bathroom area, frosted doors to the little room for the toilet and another frosted door to the shower, and then a fabric curtain covers the open area between the tub and the room - I suppose to allow views out the balcony. To be honest, we never found it embarrassing. I also bring a travel size room spray to help keep things smelling fresh. The public bathrooms on the pool level were very clean and had private stalls so if you really had some business to take care of, you could always go that route.

Bring travel binoculars if you want to watch the whales and their babies even better. We noticed people did that. It was fun to just lie back and watch for sea life.

Overall we loved it and were honestly sad to leave.

Room Tip: Every room has an ocean view. We enjoyed being on the fourth floor, as we had a fantastic view of th...
