“Stunning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

My partner and I stayed at Secrets Marquis Los Cabos for a birthday and anniversary celebration from June 22 - 29 in an ocean front room for four nights and an ocean front casita for three nights. We've travelled widely throughout Mexico, and enjoy luxury properties ( both all inclusive and a la carte). Secrets Marquis was fantastic! And our stay was made all the more incredible due to the fabulous and amazing chief concierge Vania Castro. Vania you are a diamond! If you're thinking about going you, you should just go. This place is phenomenal in all respects.

Location
Absolutely breathtaking between rounded desert mountains and the sea. Far from the hawkers and beach clubs of Medano and Cabo, the beach is wild and beautiful here - pounding surf and nary a banana boat or jet ski in sight. Saw marlins playing in the surf, vultures, hawks, beautiful outcroppings of rocks. The beach is deep and amazing to walk along but the undertow makes it dangerous to swim in but you can take a dip in a rock sheltered cove by the Hilton and the walk is there is beautiful. On the other side of the hotel there are celebrity homes on the El Dorado golf course including G Clooney's which is apparently the one closest to the hotel but he wasn't in so we made our own fun.

Service
Service was excellent. We had emailed the hotel prior to our arrival and everything we had requested was provided. The resident manager Ignacio Mendoza met us when we arrived and was wonderful throughout our trip. The chief concierge Vania Castro was awesome; she is a star! She organized all of our events and always added a little something to make them even more special. There were anniversary banners on the doors of both rooms, fruit and cava waiting when we got to the room, congratulatory messages in the daily newsletter. For our casita she placed us in the most beautiful one, her favourite. We took dinner trips to the other amresorts, Dreams and Zoetry, and she made sure that at both the staff knew it was a birthday and anniversary celebration and at both we were surprised that they knew our names; at Dreams dessert was customized, at the Zoetry our dinner on the beach ended with a birthday dessert and song from the staff under the stars, sand beneath our feet and the surf.

Rooms
Rooms were beautiful. We were on the top floor oceanfront for the first four nights and it was great. Good bed, lots of space, great view and in earshot of the pounding surf. Huge tub, separate shower room, toilet room and great stone vanity and mirror. No Bulgari bath amenities though, they were Secrets own brand but still pretty good. Generous sized and smelled like Aveda rosemary mint. Also included a bottle of SPF 15 sunscreen. Replenished everyday and at turndown if required. Towels were good in terms of quantity, ok quality wise.
The Casitas are worth the upgrade. We were in oceanfront casita 802 which is closest to the beach on the second floor with terrace and plunge pool on the roof- stunning stunning stunning. The casita was huge +1500 sf with bedroom and lounge area and mega bathroom on one side and the dining living area with a sort of kitchenette which had a microwave and full size fridge on the other. Minibar had decent booze including half bottles! Of chivas, tequila, and rum, plus the small bottles of vodka etc. that you get in the regular rooms. The clinchers for us: the walls of windows in the bedroom and living rooms facing the ocean which open completely and slide into the side walls so that the casita is completely open to the beach!, two linked balconies on the bedroom living room level, and the huge roof top terrace which you access from a turret circular stair from the balconies. Absolutely amazing. The roof terrace has two lounges and an umbrella, built in sofa seating, lighting, and the heated plunge pool. All overlooking the surf. And because of the beachfront location 802 looks and feels the most private - it felt like your own house on the beach.

Pools
The pools were perfect for the size of the hotel: two serpentine infinity pools parallel to the beach and a half moon shaped pool underneath the infinity pool waterfall off the lobby. All were heated though the integrated jetted pools in the serpentines were not hot which was odd. Pool lounges were always available, wood framed with soft cushions. Pool Drink service was fine with top shelf available at all bars if you asked. Try the pinoshka (?) which is a great drink made with grilled pineapple, pineapple juice and vodka I think. Really good and unique.

Restaurants
Canto del mar really good. Good food, good presentation. Especially good was the crab roll app which came with a generous dollop of black caviar and the duck which was perfectly cooked. This is the formal French restaurant and the service was friendly and professional. The Chef is a designated French Master Chef. Very intimate as there are only 20 seats.

Vista Ballenas was the everyday restaurant as they served breakfast there and we ate lunch there as well as meals by the pool and on the casita terrace. Great local fusion Mexican as well as standards from the grill. Smoked marlin tostadas, mixed ceviche in various styles, seared tuna salad with Asian flavours, the fresh raw-ish menu items excelled. Typical grill stuff- chicken, steak- was good enough. Breakfast was good with buffet and a a la carte items available. I loved the divorciados eggs and the red and green chilaquiles, partner enjoyed the american breakfast once they got rid of the refried beans underneath the eggs. Overall the food and service was great for us, and coupled with room service where they let us order from the restaurant, and dinner diversions to Dreams and Zoetry, there was enough variation for a week of decent eating. We didnt try Dos Mares as partner does not like seafood mains. Beach grill was good with light fare like ceviche and tacos as well as the more norteamericana club sandwich and burgers.

Take advantage of the fact that you can go to Dreams and Zoetry. Both are unique. Dreams has a more bustling vibe, Zoetry is more serene. Zoetry's beach restaurant is the one to go to. It is right on the beach literally and there is a firepit, torches and lanterns, and the atmosphere is pretty magical at night.

We also had a special anniversary dinner on the roof of our casita on one night. Vania organized it and it was stunning. Tea lights in bags, candles floating in the pool, and torches lit the terrace and the atmosphere was magical. We had our own waiter , Juan, who was fantastic and fun. Dinner was from the menu at Vista Ballenas and everything was amazing. The service was fantastic as someone had to bring the wine and food from the restaurant to Juan who then brought it up three flights of stairs to the Casita Roof - and the food was still delicious and hot and the wine and drinks chilled! The kitchen made a special dessert which had a white chocolate coral reef sculpture and cake that was amazing. I'll say it again, Vania the concierge, was incredible! If you have a chance to do the casita dinner or dinner on the beach you should do it - it will be totally worth it.

Entertainment.
We're not big on group activities unless they're sort of spontaneous. We found the night life fine. We hung out with other couples we met and had a laugh doing karaoke or hanging out by the bar. The hotel has organized events like bar hopping, tequila tasting, cooking classes, dance classes, etc and they play movies at the bar at night. There is no club ( they are building one which is to be finished soon as well as the Asian restaurant) but the bar was good and we found most people friendly and fun.

All in all a great place for a special occasion and a great memorable vacation.

Secrets Marquis was amazing. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon a week ago. The resort is stunning, the service is incredible and the food is amazing. It is a small resort but that is what we loved most about it. We could not get enough of the infinity pool and the poolside service. Our rooms were spacious and clean. There was a turn down service each night and room service whenever you wanted. We both enjoyed the spa and got great massages. The front desk is very helpful and willing to assist with any issues or adventures you may want to take. We met a lot of great people while we were there and got to enjoy their company as well. We cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: All the rooms face the ocean so you cannot really go wrong!

A group of us decided to take vacation to Cabo San Lucas in the summer. Since we'd never been, didn't exactly know what to expect. Have to say, was more hot than was comfortable, but was able to find some shade under the umbrellas at the pool. This hotel was amazing. The rooms were large - the beds unbelievably comfortable, and overall, incredibly clean. The staff was unbelievably helpful, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. I do believe you should always know a little of the language to get around, but everyone spoke beautiful English, which made it so much easier to communicate. The food was incredible and the service was THE BEST! In addition, the spa treatments were some of the best I've had, and reasonably prisced. I would definitely stay at this resort again. One caution: when you arrive at the airport there are a lot of individuals trying to get you into their vehicles. These are associated with the timeshare properties in the area. I would book your car service ONLINE prior to arriving, and know that they will be waiting outside the doors. Don't listen to those inside the airport. Wait until you get outside the main entrance.

Pros:
-beautiful design throughout
-horseback ($40.00) within walking distance (ask for Sheba)
-nice rooms, nice furniture, nice artwork & statues, comfy beds, generous toiletries (toothbrush, shaver, spf15, comb, etc), state of the art safes
-all ocean view (great ocean views)
-service outstanding (hello Antonio) all over the resort
-food very good (bolognese, salmon provencal, carbonara, guacamole excellent)
-nice beach to walk on( rough ocean in almost all of Cabo, but bus trips to Medano Beach to swim/snorkel twice a week)
-Great pools, chaises covered with large beach towels in advance, snacks served by butlers around pools (drinks too of course)
-not far from airport
-turndown every night with candles, robes, water, flower petals
-***weather**** if you are looking for a place with perfect weather (we went in Jan and July) Cabo is the place. Rains 5-6 days a year, low humidity, no bugs
-Jan-whale watching amazing
-nice day trips available
*****would go back in a heartbeat. Have been all over and this is one of our favorites.

Cons:
-Timeshare approach at check in( but never again, to be fair)
-a little too quiet at night for some people

Suggestions( the manager asked I do this):
-piano bar (like Orchid Bay, Jamaica)
-coco cafe- serve ice cream
-late night snack bar (perhaps keeping coco cafe open till midnight)
- I wish the front desk offered us a deal to return upon check out. We would have signed right there and then for a return.
-secrets iphone app (like P.Vallarta secrets)
- one heated pool & jacuzzi

-These are only suggestions, and in no way diminishes the upscale impression we had of the Marquis.
-In one word---GO! Perfect honeymoon destination (those rooms are outstanding!)

Room Tip: top or bottom floor

Me and my bf went here for a quiet vacay, It's about a 15 minute drive from Cabo central where all the entertainment is but as long as you have a rental its worth the drive. The food is good , not spectaular but good, great presentations, great service. I'd advise you to order from menu over buffet. Location is beautiful! Although the beach is too rough to swim its nice to get your feet wet. The whole place is clean, well kept, stocked our mini bar every day with more beer and drinks, 24 hour room service with fresh warm food. Wake up to coffee and bread in the morning. We loved it, very serene and also had music by one of the pools if you wanted to dance. Would definitely stay here again. But bringing lots of mosquito repellent next time!

Room Tip: ocean front is better than ocean view, we thankfully got a comp upgrade.

My husband and I stayed at this resort from 06-28-12 thru-07-04-12. The resort is very nice and clean and the staff is very professional. The things I wish I would have know prior to my trip are 1)You CANNOT swim in the ocean. The Sea Of Cortez is very rough. 2)When you check in and you are taken to another room to visit with a hostess, this is really an attempt to get you to sign up to go to a time share presentation. The coupons they give you are basically worthless unless you spend at least $150.00 in the spa. 3)There are no warm whirlpools or hot tubs for use, UNLESS, you pay $15.00 pp per day to use them in the spa and you can't use the coupons towards this fee. 4) Make reservations early with the conceirge to visit the sister hotels Dreams and Zoetry. They seem to fill up pretty quickly and the cost of a taxi each way is $10.00.I would however recommend visting the other resorts because the food was better there. I wish Secrets provided a shuttle to Cabo San Lucas the way Dreams does. Maybe you can arrange to have the shuttle come pick you up if you plan to do some shopping or just want to look around. The tours say they allow for shopping time but not very much and not much selection at the locations they choose. If you want to just lay by the pool and not spend much extra money, this is the place for you. I was also never sure if we should tip the staff however we always did and it was always accepted.

Room Tip: ask for an upgrade with a higher floor

The service, rooms, food, and location were perfect! The staff was always willing to answer any questions or requests. House keeping was attentive and adjusted to our schedule. I have never been much of a beach person, but this place has changed my mind. The pools were very nice and never overcrowded. We will be returning.
