“Family Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

We are time share members and have been going to Los Cabos and Cancun for eight years now. The entertainment team and the most of the waiters are wonderful. The rooms are big and the fridge is always full. Bob was our rep. he was made our reservations and did not bother us about upgrading our time share. We had three rooms and there were seven of us. We had no problems with getting seated for dinner or commendations for the kids. We will continue to visit Los Cabos.

The one negative is the pool bar the bartenders need to work on being friendly and willing to help customers. There were many times we stood there for five plus minutes waiting for drinks.

Just returned from our stay and had a great time.A nice resort right on the beach thats great for marching up and down as far as the eye can see.
The resort as a whole is spotless. Its always kept clean from morning to night.Someone was always mopping or pruning.Very well kept grounds.
Nice pool areas for every taste,if only you can find a space. Our last few days i was up and down to the pool by 7 am and was lucky to get the last 2 loungers. The same down at the beach.
Our room was a little dated but was sparklingly clean. The king sized bed i thought was very comfortable. The mini fridge was restocked daily but not with much, dont bother asking for more, you will be ignored or charged extra.
The food is average, you wont go hungry. If you want a 5 star meal pay for a 5 star meal.
The only issue we had was with the management and our concierge. We only had a few issues that could have been quick fixes. As soon as we finished the timeshare speel our concierge ignored us and managment wasnt much better.
Overall our stay was a great way to spend our ten days off, lounging on the beach having a cold beverage.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor or higher facing west and on the south end of the resort. You will get...

We had an excellent experience with this trip. The Royal Solaris was a clean hotel with very good food, for an all inclusive resort. Each day, each meal had a speciality item that added some variety to the meals such as crepes for breakfast, Fish Baja tacos for lunch, or a beach BBQ for dinner. Mora Mario our concierge, was very helpful with planning day trips as well as assisting us in returning to the airport when we felt Delta Vacation did not allow enough time to get back to the airport. I especially appreciated Mora's assistance, as he was on his way out that day and still stayed to assist us with this matter.

The Royal Solaris is located within walking distance of the downtown San Jose del Cabo and is a secure area with many pedestrians, both local and tourists. The time of the year we visited, end of February and beginning of March, was while the whales were migrating. The hotel is set up for viewing the sun rise and whale watching during breakfast as well as a terrace overlooking the Sea of Cortez for other times of the day.

The only negative was the beds were hard, but I heard on our last day, if you request at the front desk, they can provide some kind of mattress pad to make the bed more comfortable.

We would consider staying at this resort again and will recommend to others if going to the Cabo area. Good service, good food, great location, and a variety of activities.

My partner and I booked a vacation at the Royal Solaris March 3rd to the 10th. Our first night there they had what they now say was a very minor electrical fire, first a reviiew of the hotel, then I'll get to the fire they had there.
The hotel itself is quite beautiful a solid 3-3 1/2 star is accurate. The rooms are large and comfortable and reasonably well stocked. We upgraded to a top floor ocean view room with a hot tub on our deck which was very beautiful with an amazing view of the sea of cortez, a beautiful room for a resonable additional fee. The hotel is kept clean for the most part and the staff are very hard working, pleasant and really try to help when they are able. The food is another story,it is very bland and tasteless we have stayed at many other Mexican all-inclusives and have never had an issue with the food but this really was bad. The drinks are watered down for sure but hey just order a double or get another drink no big deal, no bar line ups to speak of and no "towel games" Lots of children so it can get very noisy but there are other pools where you can get away to if you've had enough of the little ones.
Now to the fire situation. We arrived early afternoon and were checked in very quickly and shown our room which we quickly upgraded. So we ended up being on the floor where the fire started, just down the hall in fact. Luckily for the hotel and all of the hotel guests that night the fire started around 8:15 pm and most people were not in there rooms or sleeping because this fire was no minor fire and to call it anything other than a major fire is an insult to all of us that were trapped in our rooms and balconys for over an hour breathing in toxic smoke from this fire. I noticed a burning plastic smell around 8:30pm,opened my door and was met with floor to ceiling thick black smoke. There was no way I could have made it out of my room to safety. I am a very calm person and remained so through out this ordeal,or it could have easily ended badly for me. The hotel is still claiming it was just a minor event and that the smoke just had a strong smell to it. Oh please who do they think they're fooling? An electrical fire of this magnitude emits TOXIC smoke, depending on what was burning. The fact that this hotel has no sprinklers, no emergency lights in hallway, non functioning or no alarms and absolutely no contingency plan for its hotel guests is shameful and deadly, this so easily could have killed me or anyone else who had the horrible experience of being trapped during this disaster. I agree with other reviewers that the staff did what they could to help us but it was painfully inadaquate. The fact that the owner finally showed up 3 days after this fire and chose not to contact any of the hotel guests that went through this disaster is very troubling and upsetting which is why I would never recommend or return to this dangerous hotel. The hotel at no time has attempted to contact us regarding the fire as they are claiming they have done ,they still are refusing to admit the severity of this fire it has been from the very start downplayed. If you were not one of the unlucky people trapped guring this ordeal maybe it wasn't a big deal to you but I was there on my balcony for over an hour, trust me it was no joke. Please don't stay here until they have some safety measures in place,it's simply not safe. I have rated this hotel based on how we were treated by management during this ordeal the service is based on that alone and doesn't reflect poorly on the rest of the staff.

Indeed we had an electrical fire in one of the service room which caused the burning of plastic material which emitted strong odor and smoke that spread into some room floors.

The fire detection system alerted us in a timely manner. Also the Civil Protection Team and the Fire Brigade conducted an inspection of all affected areas and the surroundings of the hotel.

Please accept our apologies for this incident, we know you understand that was an unexpected situation.
