Purchased two Groupons to stay there over Easter weekend for 6 nights. Barcelo was offering $550 worth of coupons to use on hotel services, etc. I asked at check-in whether I could use two of them on internet service. "Yes" was the answer. You guessed it, check-out time arrived and the clerk said that I couldn't use either one of them and that I was told incorrectly at check-in. But magically, he said that if I were to pay him cash, then he would apply a partial discount for me!! I didn't bite and told him that I'd just dispute the charges with my credit card company. He seemed irritated and upset that he didn't get the cash to put in his pocket. Otherwise, the property is a bit dated but the food was good, drinks were watered down like most Mexican all inclusives and the housekeeping was spotty. Next time I'd spend a little more and stay at a nicer resort.

my husband and I stayed for five days at this resort and we give it an excellent rating. lovely setting, excellent rooms, impeccable service and incredibly wonderful food. Raul Reyes, head chef is incredible: tonight was Italian night: the pesto pasta, chicken cacciatore, veal roast, tiramisu, Caesar salad--incomparable attention to detail and quality. for every meal we've had here, from the extensive breakfast bar to the changing theme every night at the buffet---couldn't have been better. maître d' Felix Lopex was attentive and personable. wait staff Marcello Herrera was incomparable, responsive, polite, funny, attentive. the entire service staff couldn't have been better. made our stay here truly memorable

Room Tip: I frankly didn't see a bad room. all were oriented to the ocean.

We booked Barceló Grand Faro last minute. We had no expectations as the reviews we read were mixed. Grand Faro as recently acquired by Barceló and it was quite clear that they were still trying to work out the kinks - but that's ok, that's to be expected. Our kids had a great time. Both of them spent most of their time in one of the 3 pools. Walks along the beach were a daily event. If you have kids and/or you are mediocre swimmer don't get too far into the water. Some of the break can get rather large and may sweep you out if you're not careful. My wife saw someone screaming for help until 5 guys from the beach swam out to save him. If you body surf or boogie board, this is a great place to jump in.
For the most part, they are pretty attentive, however there seem to be some lost souls on the property who seem just to be going through the paces. They seem to be a little understaffed with servers around the pool area and sometimes it's easier to stroll up to the bar if you want a beverage.
Food and service at both buffets and ala carte restaurants is good. With only one ala carte restaurant open each evening, choices are somewhat limited, but if you love buffets this place is for you.
We met some great people on our trip, particularly - Jesus Villa (Las Olas), Mirabel (Housekeeping), Luz and Ana (Pool Servers) and Jose and Felix (Las Jicamas and La Gondola)
Thanks guys for helping to make our trip a memorable one!

PROS:
Property is clean
Staff are friendly and for the most part courteous
Food is good
Close proximity to San Jose
3 pools
Snack bar is convenient if you want a quick bite

CONS:
Beds are small and hard
Pillows are hard
Limited choices for evening dining
AC is regulated. We were a little warm in the evenings

TIPS:
Get the Premium upgrade
Get a beachfront room overlooking the ocean (We stayed in 2594, 5th floor, sound of the waves breaking is very calming)
Don't eat at the pool. You'll be swarmed by very aggressive seagulls.
Tip! Good service deserves a reward. We didn't see many people show an appreciation of the staff here. So tip!
If you're foodies, this isn't the place for you. It's a great place for families and for those who are not too picky.

Overall a pretty good place!

We have stayed at Barcelo in Ixtapa, Costa Cancun and now Grand Faro. We paid for ocean front, but the hotels definition of ocean front is in the sol tower at the back of the hotel. The room at the front are beachfront and in front of ocean. We stayed at Costa Cancun, ocean front is just that oceanfront. Little dissappointed about the room definitions. Our first room was also blocked by the other hotel, we were moved to a more central room 1512 and it was very nice. We had paid for premium service and we received that. Free internet was great. The rooms, the pool, everything was kept clean. Service was not as good when my husband was around, but if I was at the pool by myself no problem. Pool was clean and well maintained. We would definitely go back to this hotel, no time share anywhere, we loved it. Also please Barcelo eliminate people savings seats with their towels and not returning, that is total bull. At the Dreams resort, the count how many people around, if they will take the towels that sit with no one there. Please do something about these selfish ways!

Room Tip: Beachfront room are at front of hotel, ocean views are the rooms on the side, and ocean front is the...

Our stay at the grand faro was awesome ..we had 15 of us in our group and all us enjoyed our stay. It was nice to walk from your hotel into town and we always felt very safe. The staff at the hotel were fabulous ..special mention for Felix the manager of the dinning room and Karen in the morning buffets. The food was great and all the staff couldn't do enough for you. We will return!

I am finally taking the time to write a review of our trip to the Barcelo Grand Faro, I must say that it is a very beautiful Hotel, immaculate grounds, clean rooms, pretty good food and a gorgeous beach! Our family of 3, including our 15 year old daughter, went the first week of Spring break, March 16 2014. Upon arriving at the Hotel no one escorted us to the Premiere check in area, so we stood in line in the main lobby for nearly 25 minutes, a porter finally located us and escorted us to our proper check in area, they offered us drinks, which we had to make ourselves and food from the small buffet. They locked our luggage in a safe place. Our check in was smooth but from there we were told our room would be a 1/2 hour, ya right, 3 hours later a porter finally came to get us, by this time we were too tired to complain! No one came to check on us, only the porters seemed concerned that we were still sitting in the lounge waiting! We checked into our room, clean and well stocked, the first day....then after that, not enough towels, lots of towels no wash cloths, even after asking we never did get wash cloths passed the first day, lots of coffee, no cups, next day lots of cups and glasses, so many that I set a few out in the hallway. Glad we upgraded because otherwise wifi prices were through the roof, room service for breakfast was lovely but not as a late night snack! The snack/pool side bar closed at 6pm, they boasted 5 restaurants, that is not the case, the a la carte flip flopped each night between Italian and Mexican, the Sushi bar was adult only, no take out, beach restaurant was only breakfast and lunch and the upper restaurant was dinner only, so you tell me how many restaurants they had! We were told by both the Hotel and Air Canada that there was "NO" construction next door, there was, the staff seemed very un co-ordinated, sorry, but english was not great, they seemed over worked, not really going out of their way to please, you waited forever for a drink, even while tipping and we never saw the same servers more than once. We spoke to other guests in the Hotel while we were there, the complaints were the same as ours, food ok, mattresses sucked, hotel room doors did not lock, we had several on our floor slamming the doors over and over to get them to lock! I think my biggest surprise was that another couple and their son, that booked 5 days prior to arrival, were checked in and sitting at the pool in less than 40 minutes while we waited for nearly 3 hours for a trip we booked in December, not a good first impression of Barcelo!! :( ......... We should have stayed at Ziva (former Barcelo)

We really like this resort. Ocean Front room 2591 was on the 5th floor with great views. Definitely get the Club Premium upgrade, we really enjoyed that. Katherine was the best at helping us with so many questions-very knowledgeable. Jesus, Felix, Jose Leyva and Alfredo all were very helpful with freezing our fish we caught to bring home. Chef Raul made us a fantastic dish in the main restaurant with our tuna we caught. All in all it was a great stay. We did have one night where we had reservations at the Mexican restaurant for 7:30 and still had not eaten at 9:00-two tired kids, we left and went to the buffet. Buffet food was always very good. They had added at Pasta Bar, that my son ate at every night. Would like to see some more evening entertainment geared towards kids and adults(they no longer have bonfire on the beach night-so sad). Would also like to see a Taco Bar added, after all we are in Mexico. The game room was no more and our kids are too old for the kiddie park. We would go back again if we could get a good deal/rate.

Room Tip: Go for the Club Premium upgrade and stay in a Ocean Front(5th floor).
