“Perfect Getaway!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Twenty minutes past three pm, my wife and I wanted to getaway. We live here in San Jose del Cabo, and know every hotel in town. Our first choice was Cabo Surf Hotel, and luckily we were able to get a room in their new hotel wing, The Shore Villas.
Being so close to the surf, sleeping in luxury accommodations and served like a King with delicious food at their ocean palapa, what else can you ask for.
If you need to know if your wife will like it here because she does not surf, I can say that my wife does not surf, and she enjoyed the beach as much as I did.

WOW what a great Hotel with a Fantastic Location...... Our suite was well appointed and the view was fit for a king. Or should I say surf kings. Mexico's premiere surf spot is the back drop from the infinity pool. So in terms of the accommodations I would say this hotel is a strong 4-5.

The first thing you want to do is grab a board and charge into the surf. We were directed to the hotel surf shop to select our surf boards. Well if you are a female surfer the staff is than willing and able to see you select the perfect board. However, I experienced this from the vantage of a male and can say my experience was quite different to say the least. The surf shop staff was incredibly rude and not helpful at all. I voted with my feet and walked down to surf shop down the street that was more than happy to have my business.

The restaurant is great and the staff was very polite and accommodating. Then we got the bill and felt like we were having dinner in Laguna Beach. Expensive! During the course of our stay we noticed that most of the guests did not spend much time dining at the hotel... Wonder Why?

So to sum it up, the hotel location and accommodations are wonderful and my only suggestion would be to lower the price of the food and drinks. Oh ya, they may want to speak to some of the poison pills that work there about there income and livelihood depending upon the guest having a good experience.

We considered your review about our surf instructor and board rental staff. it was an eye opener to hear that. We are making sure it doesn't happen again to any of our guests. About the food prices, we are trying to keep them as reasonable as possible. Our supply of quality fresh seafood in the area has gone up in price through time. We haven´t found good sources of fish at better prices to reduce our catch of the day from lunch from its $17 usd price tag but we will keep looking. Thank you for your valuable feedback, we hope to see you soon!

Perfect location along Costa Azul, with Old Man's and the Rock right out front. Exceptional service and very well appointed rooms. Fantastic place for couples, families or lone traveler looking to get away to play for a few days. Beach in front is beautiful, and great place to launch on a SUP ride to Palmilla coastline, checking out all the incredible villas along the beach. Poolside cocktails are a great way to close out the afternoons...

I wanted to write to thank you for the fantastic experience that you and your staff provided at the Cabo Surf Hotel this last weekend. The location, accomodations, and service were all top notch and I have already recommended you to family and friends. My wife and I loved the views from the infinity pool and the poolside service. Thanks again!

Loved the Cabo Surf Hotel. You really can't ask for a better setup for a couple where one of them is a surfer and one isn't. My wife sunbathes next to the incredible pool and can look right down on me while I'm in the waves... PERFECT! Nice to be able to rent boards there too. Rooms are great and up to date. Can't really complain, it's not cheap but it's worth it. I've stayed at nearby condos as well but it's just not the same. Every beach town needs a place like this!

Cabo Surf is a great Hotel with a fantastic restaurant. If you eat every meal there, you will have an expensive bill when you check out. We stayed in a "Shoreline Villa." It is advertised for 6 people. We had two adults and three kids. The villa is an averaged sized hotel room with 2 queen beds and a pull out sofa. Next time, I will rent two of the lower priced rooms as we were very crowded. There was not enough closet and drawer space for the five of us.

Definitely make it a priority to go to The Mega grocery store to stock up on water, soft drinks and snacks for the kids. There is a great taco stand behind the Mega facing the soccer arena and next to the preschool where we liked to eat breakfast tacos. Eating here for breakfast was yummy and saved us about $50 per day on breakfast.

For a treat, go to Flora Farms for dinner or lunch one day. A little pricey but worth the drive. The front desk at Cabo Surf will allow you to print directions from the restaurant's website on the hotel printer. The vegetables are grown on site and all food is organic. A must if you are in Cabo!

Go to The Office in Cabo San Lucas for lunch. The atmospere is festive and the kids can parasail for about $30 each and ride the banana for a resonable price from the beach in front of the Office. Hair can be braided and Henna tattoos can be gotten here too.

Our stay was 7 days and I must say 7 days too short. Cabo Surf Hotel management and owners should know that all their staff, Jesus, Tony, Jose, etc. everyone we came in contact with (not to mention the very beautiful hostesses dressed in all black around the dinning area) are exceptional. Beyond a 5! Now for the details:
1. We rented the in the new section Villa Shore, 2bl queen room #25. best room in the house. We had 20 other friends stay all around the hotel, some who stayed in the upper levels could not sleep most of the night, due to the noise of the parking lot next to the hotel (explanation to come)
2. The maid service was beyond a 5. She folded all the kids clothes every day, cleaned in a timely manner and NEVER took anything, even when I left my safe opened with 7thousand US dollars in it. THey are the best room service I've ever experienced in Cabo
3. Pool service is beyond fantastic. Attentive, they have call buttons at your chair, once you solicit an attendent, they are there within 10-15 seconds running! you need to be commended on your attention to detail
4. The ocean breeze nightly and cold, comfortable temperature worked just great for the sole (don't know what other people mean by air conditioning noise, unless the sound of the ocean was confused for some other noise, this location is tranquility at its best)
5. Surf shop guys are awesome, one is from Venezuela who I hate to admit thought us how to surf for free. Why? Just be nice to these people, they are nice right back at you.

BAD, REALLY BAD STUFF:
1. Okay, after day one, you begin to notice that the money is made in the restaurant and drinks. HOLLY MOTHER OF ALL OVER CHARGING! we originally had planned to eat there nightly, but only ate there twice. We then took 20 dollar round trip cabs to either San Jose or Cabo and ate better food for lower prices, WAY lower prices. Hopefully they correct this part of their operations, it's too damn expensive. the idea must be that due to the location you are trapped there and have no choice to pay higher prices for stuff
2. The worst of it all is that they were always out of food. No Oysters, except one day. The kids were furious, and so was dad :) How could you not have clams, oysters at a sea food restaurant in CABO!
3. Knowing of wines as much as my family does, it was very surprising to see the price for wine at this place.

The BEST tip I can give any family so that you can enjoy a 5 star experience is, stop at the grocery store on your way in and load up on water bottles, treats and late night cocktails for the adults. We did this three days in and our rating went from a 3 to a 4. The attention to detail at this place is why we give it a strong 4, price wise you can find better places, just not surfing. This is the only spot for great surfing most of the day. I wish them all the very best, I really do.

Room Tip: Stop at the grocery store and load up on water bottles, treats and alcohol, you will safe at least 1...

Dear visiting guest, thank you for your feedback, we highly appreciate it. It will help us improve the experience of our guests and patrons. Cabo is an island for all practical purposes, operating is expensive, quality ingredients brought in are costly and thus maintaining reasonable pricing and stock proves a challenging task. We accommodated a kids menu to help visiting families. We are taking the following steps derived from your insight. We are working to expand menu options for our hotel guests during dinner time for lighter less priced items. An additional clams and oyster supplier will support to keep the stock. Wine from overseas are heavily taxed when imported to Mexico, premium wines being more sensitive. Our wine markups are below the typical of Los Cabos hotel corridor. We keep out of imported wine labels that our distributors bring over too high, thus we are moving out a few of those that had slipped into our wine list. Hopefully, it may help avoid a misperception in our wine pricing.

Thank you for trusting your vacation on us and your valuable comments. We would love to see you back!
