“Lowdown on the Melia Cabo Real”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2005

My wife and I chose the Cabo Real because it was all-inclusive and what we were looking for in amenities for a week of relaxation, (laying by the pool w/ unlimited drinks and no worries about having to pay for food and drinks). We booked in January, and our trip was the second week in April. At check in, they couldn't locate our reservation and we were unable to get the room we had reserved. We reserved an ocean-view w/ king bed. They put us in a garden view with two double beds and said they would find an ocean-view the next day. We did end up with an ocean view, but they continued to state no king beds were available. The double beds were too small and rock hard; we had read some reviews that said the pillows were too hard so we brought ours from home. We had to ask three times for hand towels, the A/C had only one temperature, the rooms had coffeemakers, but we had to ask housekeeping to bring more, they just stopped providing coffee, the in-room fridge wasn't even cool, let alone cold, and it wasn't restocked ONCE. The drain in the shower in both rooms we stayed in didn't drain properly; we showered in ankle-deep dirty water every day. They did have plenty of fruits and vegetables to eat, breakfast and lunch were great, but dinner became tedious after the third night; there was very little variety. For the good parts; the pool and beach area were great, the service staff were very friendly and helpful, but the front desk staff spoke suprisingly little english.
Checkout was at noon, however, our flight wasn't until 4:15 and they allowed us to keep our bracelets that indicated the all-inclusive until we needed to leave for the airport, so we sat by the pool, and enjoyed lunch and additional drinks until then.
Overall, we got exactly what we wanted; we laid by the pool, drank and ate at leasure and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would not, however, endorse this facility to family or friends, and will not return ourselves.

We went on our honeymoon to the Melia from April 3-8 and it was the best vacation we have ever had. We will be returning with our children every year from here on out. The wait staff was so pleasant, the chefs were amazing (my hubby even got his picture taken with them since he loved the food so much), the food was so tasty and the hotel location was perfect (away from town but only 20 minutes). We didn't have to leave the resort at all if we didn't want to. Everything was there for us. We did do a few of the activities (snorkling, kyaking & ATV's) and the prices were very resonable and they set it all up for you at the hotel. We loved the beach parties and the pool. We met so many people there and the only thing we could complain about would be that upon arrival they couldn't find our registration, it was under my name and not my husbands, but they found it in about 5 minutes. I would recomend this resort to everyone I know and I have. Mine & my husbands families are going there with us next year.

Stayed at the Melia March 26 to 29, 2005. Food was good, room was clean, beach was nice and service except for the front desk staff was good. The concierge went out of his way to deal with the complaints and smile all the time. The breakfast eggs were very good. This is Mexico so have the fish or the chicken and don't think that any beef including steak will be that good. Also, as spectacular as the rooms are, there are cracked tiles, broken hangers, etc. that do not get fixed as they work on a different schedule of urgency than we do. A good price for this hotel would be in the $200 to $250 US range. We paid less because of a deal so we thought that everything was fine. If we had paid $300 + we would have been less enthusiastic. All in all, a nice place to stay. By the way, get up early in the morning and throw a towel on your pool chairs or you won't find a place later on. Have fun.

We just got back from four heavenly days in Cabo. As many of the other reviews mentioned, we were somewhat apprehensive about the hotel...however, vowed before we got there to have reasonable expectations. We were not disappointed. We checked in - told them it was our honeymoon and were automatically upgraded to an ocean view room. Kudos to them. The grounds were beautiful, the pool was immaculate and very well-maintained. We found the staff to be both friendly and helpful. The food was good - as mentioned in previous reviews...breakfast and lunch are great. Dinner was ok - but would consider venturing out into town for something different. Use the bus, it's a lot cheaper and is worth the entertainment value. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - and would recommend it to anybody with kids. We, on the other hand, would probably try some place else if we return to Cabo. Just to try something different.

We stayed at the Melia Cabo Real over Easter Break returning March 29th. Having read the numerous negative reports about the food and the caliber of this resort, we were pleasantly surprised to have such a good six day stay. We have four children ranging from ages seven to sixteen and they had a great time. We had never stayed at an all-inclusive resort and the convenience really worked well for us. The scenery is great, the pool is beautiful and the staff was always anxious to please. The food is fine...breakfast and lunch were more than fine. Dinner could be a little bit more varied but we never had a bad meal. Dinner at the reservation only restaurant was great...no need to order lobster for the extra money. It is what it is...not gourmet dining but nice and the waiters try so hard to be high caliber. I can't understand the vehemence of some of these negative reviews...maybe we had a different expectation. Great place to relax and unwind. You'll be in Mexico and there is a slower pace of life here. Would I go with my wife and myself alone? Probably not but bringing four kids along with us, it was great.

We just returned from our week at the melia cabo real. we stayed there 3/24 thru 3/30. We had a great time the weather was great!! We were a little worried after reading past review's but every thing turned out good.
A few things people said are true. When we checked in it was 5:30pm our room was not ready, then they gave us an occupied room.Once the mix up was fixed all went well. We thought the hotel was beautiful just like the pictures on the internet. the hotel staff was great except for a few that worked the front desk. The food was ok ( it got boring after a few days seem to make the same thing over and over). the drinks are great if you tip they use the good stuff always show your dollar when your ordering. we were there Easter week so the hotel got very busy so they seem to have trouble keeping up with the crowd. The breakfast buffet was great just get there early so food is hot and plentiful. the lunch buffet and pool side snack bar was very good, Dinner not so good , but there are some great resturants in cabo. reasurch and explore both towns there both great towns. all in all my family enjoy there time in cabo and at the melia cabo real the only thing i think they should have more activitys for teens they only opened there disco 1 night we were there and the kids had agreat time the should really open it more often. No one in our party got sick we had no problems with the water. We will definitly return to cabo and the Melia cabo real.

We stayed at the Cabo Real from 2/16 - 2/25. A very enjoyable vacation.
The rooms are decent, 15 years old so not perfect. The staff is wonderful and anxious to please.
We rented a garden view room with a nice view of the golf course.
The grounds are kept spotless despite some lazy American tourists who leave trash on the ground near their chairs despite cans for disposal not 4 feets away. The pool and beach are just beautiful. Spectacular sunsets. Hotel nightlife tends to be quiet - hop the shuttle into Cabo when you want more action and to arrange snorkeling, boatrides, etc.
Breakfast is the best meal of the day. Lunch was ok and the pool grill lady slow and unfriendly. Dinner, even at La Terazza is nothing special but you can find something to your liking. Staff is much appreciative of tips which are not mandatory. Our favorite staff - Raul & Francisco really made us feel welcome. The alcohol is watered - no question and the wine selection could be improved. None of us got sick at all. The hotel gives plenty of bottled water and uses purified water for ice. In February, you will see whales right from the beach. Go into San Jose one day to visit and go to Mass on Sunday. You will be welcome there too. We may not return to Melia but will definetely revisit Cabo. Vive Mexico!
