“Great place, friendly staff, fun trip!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2009

We just returned from a relaxing vacation with another couple. Our stay at the Melia Cabo Real was great! It's located between both cities and secluded from the noise of traffic. Rooms were nice, very clean, very friendly staff. Couldn't really see the ocean from our "ocean view" room...was really a few of lots of palm trees, but it was still peaceful. We were a little disappointed that the pool/hot tub bar closed down at 7:00pm, but the lobby bar was nice-stayed open until 1:00am. Gym was disappointing-equipment was run down. We did have a massage near the beach-can't beat that! Nice beach area, big waves of cold water that felt good on our sunburned skin. Good selection of food at the buffets. We recommend taking the city bus ($1.50/pp) into Cabo San Lucas, runs every 15 minutes, there are lots of places to shop and eat. Got dinner at Alexander's on the marina-very friendly staff and food was really good. Overall, we had a very nice trip...would like to return one day.

We went with another couple for Thanksgiving. The rooms were great, the maid always came by to clean. The grounds are well maintained and the food and drink is great. The pool is outstanding and we had good service. The towels are think and you can always get one. Stop by the travel office to book a tour. Some advice, when you fly into airport, after you get bags you will be approached by man people claiming to be calling your transfers to resort, they are trying to sell you time shares and trips while you wait for transportation. Yes they do call for you after you hear what they have to sell. Just keep walking out side and you will find your rep. The town of cabo is about 10 miles away and there is no shuttle so bring cab fare cash and dont be afraid to take the bus,its fun. DONT BRING A DISCOVER CARD. They dont take it anywhere and we spoke to a couple who didnt bring anything but one. It was a nightmare for them. If you forget something, there is a Walmart about 5 miles from hotel. The only down side to hotel and this is really minor, the hallways are dark at night so bring a flash lite. All in All, a great trip

We have just come back from the most wonderful week at Melia Cabo Real. It is conveniently located between San Jose, which is elegant, beautiful, upscale, and Cabo San Lucas, which can be wild, elegant, tacky, upscale or downscale.
However, we often did not want to leave the grounds, as the rooms, food and service are so good. The whole staff was friendlier than in Italy, Greece, Malta, Jamaica, Tunisia, Bahamas, etc... And the Mexican state of Baja California Sur is much safer than other all-inclusive areas we have traveled to.
I would really recommend Melia Cabo Real for a romantic get away or a group getaway. If you have a special occasion, like a birthday or anniversary, the staff makes extra effort to make you feel special. Just let them know in advance, so they can make the good stuff happen.
The all-inclusive nature of the resort makes the ordering of anything so much more easier. I believe you may be able to order things a la carte, but that was not for us.
The rooms are just like the website, and so are the grounds. The Cabo Real Golf Course is located on the south and west sides of the Hotel, and has hosted major PGA events. On the east side is an expansive beach. At different times of the week, they may have parties or events on the sand. The rooms that are closer to the beach have the sound of the surf that is wonderful to listen to at night with the sliding glass doors open.

Tips:
Like many all-inclusive resorts, you should make reservations for some of the restaurants in advance, as they may book early. Bring three prong adaptors for electrical outlets if you require charging laptops, cell phones, etc, as the room adaptors are typically two pronged. (I never thought to ask for them, but should have) There is one three prong outlet in the bathroom. The wireless internet is available in the room at 11mbps. The water is safe to drink in the hotel, but be prudent outside of the grounds. Bottled water is widely available everywhere. If you go Zip line riding at Costa Azul, bring closed toe shoes to hike along the hillsides. It is a blast, but one has to walk the trails.
Bring plenty of sun screen, as it is a desert area meeting the beach at the same latitude as Havana, but with many more sunny days. If you order a massage, have it on the beach in the covered cabana, as it is a fantastic setting. The staff is bilingual, and patient if you are dusting off your Spanish. Flowers delivered to the room are less expensive than in the States, so splurge a little. There are many English language TV channels, but we didn’t watch much TV, as we were either on the balcony, having fun on the grounds or in one of the two towns. Driving is not crazy like it is in Mexico City, Athens or Rome, and hotel parking is free. Just watch for unmarked speed bumps, and bear in mind that the speed limit is often a suggestion. Whale season is not all year, and the small spot in the ocean picture is a whale seen from the poolside dining area. It was a nice treat.
And if you need anything from the hotel, just call.

My Husband and I spent a week at the Melia for our Honeymoon. We read all of the reviews for months before we decided on the Melia. We decided to ignore the negative reviews, because let's face it--some people are never happy. We made the right decision; the Melia was a great for price!

The Room- We upgraded our room to an M Experience Beach Front room, and it was worth it. You will be doing a lot of walking since the resort is spread out, but we found that we needed to walk around after over eating at the buffets. The bed was a little hard, but we had the foam pad added right away, and it worked just fine.

The Food- We are both picky eaters, but found that there was always something that we liked on the buffet and from room service. The omelet bar was awesome every morning! Order a chicken and cheese quesadilla from room service, they were wonderful!

The Bars- The drinks were great, they served top shelf liquor. We are young (I’m 29 and the husbands 31), and found that the bar closing at 1am in the lobby was never an issue.

The Beach- The beach was immaculate, the grounds of the hotel were constantly being groomed.

The Activities- We took part in most of the activities at the hotel. Water volleyball was fun, Casino Night & the Mexican Fiesta were great too!! As far as snorkeling, scuba diving, those activities should be purchased in town and not at the hotel, you can save money that way.

The Staff- The staff was wonderful. We tipped often, they deserve it. They work all day and night long to make you comfortable.

The Hotel- The Melia was really nice and it was very well taken care of. It was a bit modern and the lounge was a really comfy place to relax after a day of shopping in town. The pool is really nice, and the hot tub really relaxing.

Location- We loved that we were situated between Cabo San Lucas & San Jose and visited both cities. Cabo was a fun place to drink, shop, or take a charter out to fish. San Jose was the perfect sleepy little town to shop without hassle. We used the city busses several times, and it cost anywhere from $1 to $4 a person, depending on the time of day and where you got on. We also learned that with taxis; pay in pesos because it will save you a few dollars.

Things you have to see or do—Definitely go out on a boat. We took a private fishing charter out of Cabo San Lucas, and got to see the Arch, Sea Lions, and even whales! Eat at Gordo Lele’s Taco Stand in Cabo San Lucas, it’s a tiny little place with AMAZING tacos!! Visit San Jose, it’s not Cabo, but it’s a beautiful quiet town to walk around we ended up having just as much fun! Drink a waborita at Cabo Wabo, they were dangerously good! Do take the time to walk the beach at Sunset, it’s so pretty!! Take tons of sunscreen with you, we went through at least two full bottles!

We will definitely visit the Melia again in the future. We made lots of friends at the Melia! We great start to our married life together. It was a perfect spot for two active Honeymooners!

We stayed at the Melia Cabo Real from March 28 to April 4 and had such a wonderful time. It was so relaxing. We had great weather all week, although quite windy the first 2 days. Ocean temperature was a bit on the cool side (app. 74°F), but it was refreshing. The sand is coarse, but manageable even barefoot. I agree with other reviews that there were not enough chairs on the beach.

The food was great! Plentiful and fantastic selection all around, from the buffet to the à la carte restaurants. You can always find something you like. We were impressed by the great service we received! They went above and beyond at every turn, much like the service we received at resorts in Cuba.

The property was beautiful. Incredibly well groomed and comfortable (beds on the beach and by the pool were fantastic!). The rooms were also fabulous. We were blessed to have a large room with ocean view. We saw whales every day from our balcony. What a treat.

We want to personally thank Patty, our rep from Air Canada, who helped us organize excursions to Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. She was always available and happy to help. What a great lady.

My husband went golfing at the Cabo Real golf course and had a wonderful time. Superior quality course, great service. Taxi cab to and from the golf course was paid by hotel.

We had a great time on our visit to Los Arcos, Lover's beach and Medano beach. Had lunch at The Office...expensive but worth it, for the experience.

We will certainly go back again and would recommed it to anyone.

This hotel was fantastic from the minute we rolled up to the beautiful property and they quickly rushed to get us some margaritas. The staff were great, the grounds were beautiful, and the food was great as well. and the booze is always good.

There really is nothing negative to say about MCR. This place would be good for anyone. Familys, Couples, Old, Young, single.

Will definitely go back again.

Just returned from Los Cabos in the Baja. the Melia Cabo Real was the best yet. Clean, staff is courteous, quick service, great food, great ocean view - saw whales and stingrays jumping out of the ocean. Weather was perfect 65-70F in AM warmed to 83-86 in the afternoon and early evening. Not a place for children - we did see infants and toddlers - none any older. This is more of an adult place and so be it. The hotel provides transportation into Cabo which is great, there is local bus transport into Cabo and to San Jose; taxi ride is also available and affordable. The Pool at Melia is great and very clean with a swim up bar. We'd go back in a minute - I can't say a bad word about the resort.
