“Fantastic Food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Just returned from a 5 night stay April 21.

Food: The food was fresh and tasty (except for sushi at Asian restaurant, which was mostly rice and nori). Each meal at the buffet had fresh fruit, salads, and plenty of hot food. Best meal: portobello appetizer, asparagus soup, tomato salad and salmon at the Med. restaurant. Other highlights were tamales at the Mex. night, daily fresh ceviche, and Mango margaritas. If you want a strong drink, just ask.

Room: We paid extra and got a pool/ocean view in Building 3. Definitely worth it. The bed was firm, but comfortable. Bring your own conditioner & sunscreen. They give you towels, washcloths, shampoo, lotion, bath gel and soap.

Service: I have stayed at 3 other all inclusives and the staff at this was the best! Very friendly and helpful. (We did tip at the meals ($1-2/person and sometimes at the bars.)

Activities: We loved the yoga and water aerobics. Pool side games were fun too. There was always something to do. You can also check out games, snorkel gear, boogie boards, tennis equipment, and ping pong from the activity center. Darts & pool table in lobby bar.

Massage on the beach. Turn right and walk about 15 minutes toward Dreams resort). 80 minute massage for $30 USD. Massage was one of the best I've had. Ocean waves in the background and ocean breeze added to the experience. If you can't walk that far on the beach, take a taxi.

Bus system- If you aren't renting a car, take the bus for only 20 p or $2. usd. Bus drivers very helpful. Just tell them where you are going and they will tell you when to get off. We took the bus twice and had a great experience.

Getting to the resort from the airport. Taxi is $65 from airport or $14. per person via shuttle. We took the shuttle. On the way back it is only $35 for a taxi.

Only downside was the water was in the 70's, which is cold for me. We took the bus to Chileno bay (2-3 miles away) and found great snorkeling off the beach (go to the right). However, the hotel staff said the water is warmer (September- December). As others have mentioned, it is a walk to the beach.

Great Atmosphere-All the staff and majority of guests were warm and friendly. We had a great time meeting people from all over the world.

Room Tip: Bring your own conditioner. Ask for a top floor pool/ocean view.

My husband stayed a week in January following a busy US trip. We had no expectations due to the booking being made by a travel agent (we requested a "relaxing beach stop over on the way home to Australia") and we were blown away by a fantastic experience. The stay was phenomenal value for money and we were left very relaxed!

- Great pool area
- Not overcrowded, always a table with a view if requested, always a sun lounge available
- All inclusive food was fresh and great quality
- Japanese and Mediterranean restaurants were particularly good
- Friendly and helpful staff throughout the resort
- The beach beds (to hire) were cheap and relaxing
- Situated on a beautiful clean stretch of coast
- We had a good experience at the Spa, but it was on the expensive side
- Although simple, the rooms were clean and pleasant - and well kept by housekeeping
- Fantastic whale watching spot (we also took a boat out to the Arch and saw many many whales)
- Other hotel guests were nice, considerate and friendly
- The only thing less than positive in my experience was that wifi was not included and was on the expensive side

We would return for another stay in a heartbeat and recommend to family and friends.

Stayed at the Melia about a month ago. It was a veryyyy inexpensive all-inclusive deal, so my fiancé and I booked it with another couple. Now I have traveled a lot, many parts of the world, so I feel I have a good basis for comparison when it comes to resorts. Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly...

The good- for what you pay for, you definitely get everything you need. Beautiful grounds.Very Clean. Decent sized rooms. Gorgeous pool, good drinks, swim up bar. Food isn't by any means spectacular, but again, for the amount you're paying i couldn't complain at all. Friendly staff. Some decent activities. And bus service right out front to go into cabo.

The bad- there was a line for breakfast every day. The second breakfast/lunch spot was closed. They claimed it would open on one of the days we were there, but it did not. The beds are hard as a rock... I didn't mind so much, but if you're sensitive to that it could suck. The desserts were pretty crappy, and the only place you could get snacks at any point during the day was a pool side snack bar that was pretty much limited to fries and nasty burgers. No lighter options. We asked for a king bed in our reservation, yet got a room with two doubles. Not the end of the world, but irritating, especially when many others have written reviews complaining about the same thing.

The ugly- the main buffet is out in the open, and about 7000 birds have made a home of it. They fly down to try to catch a bite. On your chairs, on the dirty dishes left around, and WORST OF ALL on the plated buffet food and serving spoons!!!!!! I kid you not, on the dessert trays all the pieces of cake in front had beak marks on them. Every day. Only once did they actually take a tray away to replace that a bird had landed in, and that was once we finally made a stink about it. GROSS!!!!!!!!!!! Now let's talk about their "fitness center". Deplorable. A bunch of old and broken machines. No cardio machines except about 5 or 6 broken spin bikes. Lowest weights were 15 lbs. what a disaster. Thankfully the beautiful Hilton next door had an awesome fitness center so we snuck over there a few times. But otherwise, huge disappointment, and terrible false advertisement. It's not a fitness center it's an equipment graveyard.

Moral of the story: this place is nothing to rave about by any means. Some aspects are great, others are terrible.. But all in all, if you are looking to travel on a budget, you really can't go wrong here. Just beware of the things aforementioned. Personally I don't think I'd go back... But I had a good trip.

Myself and a friend stayed here the week of April 14-21st in Gardenview 1305. I think it's best to break it down to 'pros and cons'.

Pros:
-Grounds and gardens are meticulous. Beautifully kept and cared for.
-Lovely outdoor cushioned gas fire area in the evenings.
-Room although basic, no frills, was kept very tidy and thoroughly cleaned by cleaning staff.
-The pool was gorgeous, with a decent amount of reclining pool chairs.
-BALI BED! Do yourself a favor and rent a Bali bed. We had bed#2B, it was so relaxing with privacy and incredible views. We were immediately brought a cooler filled with ice and beer, and our server was very attentive if we needed any drinks (we did.)
-The drinks were strong and the margaritas tasty.

Cons:
-The specialty restaurants are not good at all. But I expected that so it didn't affect my enjoyment.
-Our room was behind the Italian restaurant, and near the bar at the front of the resort. If you are sensitive to noise, this is not a good spot, but for us we had earplugs and for the most part it was fine. A couple occasions the party was REALLY loud, so you may want to ask for a room away from the main lobby.

Overall I would say this is a nice resort. I am not sure if I would do all-inclusive again, but this is a personal choice, not because of the resort. However, I would say if this is the type of holiday you're looking for, Melia is overall very good.

The Good:
The food was above average for an AI resort (and I'm a picky vegetarian).

The grounds were beautiful, the pool was very nice.

The specialty restaurants were good...we actually appreciated that they only filled them to 50% capacity..it made the experience quiet and special. Just make sure you get in line early.

The Bad:
The staff was nice and helpful - with the exception of the front desk folks. We arrived a few hours before check in, but we fully expected to have a room ready for us by 3:00 as promised. We weren't checked in until 3:45, and it was difficult to keep our big family and luggage in the right places while we waited. If check in is at 3:00, you should structure your cleaning crew to have all rooms ready for check in at 3:00. Not too much to ask.

The liquor wasn't great...and only one variety of red and white wine (both extra sweet).

The rooms were terribly out-dated...the showers ran from warm to scalding with no notice. The rooms felt like Motel 6. We paid for a Deluxe Ocean view, but our check-in documents confirmed we got a Garden View. When we protested, we were told they recently changed all of their room descriptions. I don't believe them...I think we were had.

Probably won't return to Melia, but at least the weather was fantastic!

Room Tip: Don't pay for Deluxe Ocean view...you will get Garden View with sliver of ocean view.

My wife and I spent our third wedding anniversary here a few weeks ago. We had a great time. The weather was perfect. We had an ocean front room and the waves lulled us to sleep each evening. There were even two weddings right outside of our balcony! We went para-sailing, snokeling, did something called snuba-diving and took a whale-watching boat out to see the famous arch. The tennis courts are on the roof and we played tennis a couple of times. We caught the bus ($2) right out front of the resort and rode the 20-25 minutes into Cabo itself.

The hotel grounds were beautiful, as was the pool. The bartenders were quick and efficient, maid service was great. Had no trouble with the beds being too hard. The food was ok, nothing spectacular, but ok. Neither of us cared for the Japanese restaurant so be fore-warned. Try the Mediteranean instead.

We found the hotel staff to be warm and friendly. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a solid 8.5. Would we return? Yes. Encourage others to give it a try? Yes.

Room Tip: Choose ocean view on second or third level.

Built in 1990 the resort is typical of the Melia properties we have stayed in on vacation in Mexico.
Clean, fresh with well groomed staff who are friendly and appreciative.
Our room was fresh, clean and attractive...only negative was the worn out faucets in the sink and shower.
We were disappointed 1 of the 4 restaurants was closed during our visit and we did not particularly enjoy the Asian Fusion rstaurant with sushi.
We visited Cabo SanLucas, walked the marina and took the glass bottom boat tour to lands end...Super! The mall on Luxury Avenue was very high end and impressive.
On Sunday we rode the city bus to San Jose del Cabo.. to Old Town. Church was in session, most of the shops were open as was the Governors Mansion...very enjoyable. Lunched on the sidewalk tent restaurant.

Room Tip: Avoid bldg 2, most rooms look out on the Hilton Resort. We were in bldg 4 and could see the water a...
