We enjoyed an absolutely lovely honeymoon at Zoetry Casa del Mar. My husband planned our honeymoon as a surprise, and he couldn't have picked a better place.
We started off by paying the $150USD round trip fee for car service to and from the airport. I highly recommend this based on other people's comments about the airport. We were provided with specific instructions on where to walk and what to look for in order to avoid all the scams.
We were warmly welcomed with margaritas when we arrived to Zoetry and were given a tour, then led to our room. We had a junior oceanview suite (I believe that's what it is called, but I'm not 100% sure since my husband booked the trip) - it was on the third floor of the building (Room 1303), and when we opened the door to our room we were greeted with an unobstructed view of the gorgeous blue waters. It was absolutely wonderful, and I ended up with probably 100 photos of the view from our room and balcony.
One of the huge perks about the room was the minibar and the ability to call and request champagne as many times as you wanted. I basically drank only champagne the entire honeymoon (when else are you going to drink champagne for 7 days straight!). They don't specifically tell you this, but you can also request chocolate covered strawberries - we received this tip from another couple who was honeymooning at the same time who got a plate twice a day :) The room service was very prompt and wonderful.
Probably the major highlight of our stay in general was the service. The people were so wonderful, accommodating, and friendly. They seemed genuinely interested in where we were from and what occasion we were celebrating. Once they heard we were honeymooning, they showered us with compliments and taught us how to say honeymoon and other related words in spanish.
We received our 20 minute free spa service and immediately booked a couples massage on the beach, along with a spa pedicure. The couples massage was worth every penny. I have never been so relaxed. The spa pedicure was below US standards...if you are used to getting pedicures, I wouldn't spend the money here. Their specialty is definitely the massages. I can't emphasize enough how wonderful the couples massage was. I am transported to a relaxed mindset just thinking about it.
Our daily routine was basically this: we slept in (until 7 or so, which is late for us); we would either order room service breakfast and eat on our balcony or go down for breakfast in the main restaurant; take a walk on the beach; come back and change into our bathing suits; be at the beach bar/pool by 10am; around 1pm we would go sit at the bar in the shade and order lunch and chat with the staff; head back up to our room and take a nap; get ready and go to dinner; hang out at the bar until we were too tired to stay awake.
We did not leave the resort at all. We went to college in Miami and my husband grew up in Florida, so we had experienced all the excursion-y things and we wanted to have no obligations whatsoever while we were there. We did go to Dreams (the sister resort) one night for dinner just to try it. We ate at the Italian restaurant and enjoyed it very much. However, we did not enjoy the atmosphere and were so very grateful to be staying at quiet, romantic Zoetry. My husband described it as "a bunch of d-bags looking for a fight." If we were with a group of friends, Dreams would have been great, but as honeymooners or just a couple vacationing and wanting a quiet, relaxing trip, we found Zoetry to be absolute perfection.
The staff at the beach bar was seriously the highlight of our trip. Our glasses were always full and we always had great conversation. Everyone mentions G (he is so personable...what a great guy); we also loved Angelica and Hector. Our favorite staffer, however, was Zacharias. He usually works the Beach bar as a bartender (not a server, so you likely don't see him much), but one particular night he was working at the bar in the main Hacienda. My husband was looking to watch the Miami Heat play in some postseason game. Zacharias moved heaven and earth to find the game for us. I can't tell you how happy it made my husband to be able to watch his sports games. Zacharias was just so great...he told us about his kids and his wife and gave us some recipes for the meals he had made for dinner that night. I just can't say enough about him.
On to the food...I literally liked everything we had. The food was fresh and light. I never once felt like I over-ate or was eating greasy, gross food. It was practically gourmet. Our favorite spot was the restaurant on the beach. I'm sorry, but you cannot beat eating a beautiful, fresh seafood dinner with sand between your toes and an ocean breeze through your hair, listening to the waves. We had the quesadillas at least once a day, and I particularly loved the shrimp dish with the risotto. Oh gosh my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I really felt through the food and other activities that the resort was more about wellness than overindulgence, which I really enjoyed.
All in all, this was the most amazing honeymoon I could have imagined. We cannot wait to come back - when we were at the airport on our way home, we were looking up what dates we could manage a quick 3-4 day return trip.
