“Honeymoon from Hell”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

this was our honeymoon. We were to check in at 3PM. We had to wait until 7 PM. There were no beverages in the fridge. We had to continually ask for bottled water. We had always stayed in or near Cabo San Lucus. This resort advertised 5 restaurants. Only 2 were open. One that offered a menu was only open 2 days out of 5. The rest of the time we had to eat from a buffet. It wasn't that great. One night we ate off of a menu and had to pay $30. extra for seafood. Every time we took a taxi somewhere it was $10. It didn't matter if it was 5 blocks or 5 miles. No activities near there. Only 2 bars were open. The air conditioner would not shut off, we froze at night. The room was nice, but I would never stay there again. If I ever go back, it will be to the RUI Palace.

Room Tip: Stay someplace else, you will have a better time.

Let me start out by saying I think we had the best room at the hotel. Don't let the room number fool you. The room is on the first floor, has it's own patio and hammock, and has an amazing view of the ocean. I spent many a morning watching the sunrise and many an evening staring at the stars listening to the waves lap the beach.

The hotel is in a great location. It is at the end of a string of hotels and has a beautiful estuary to the North. The best part of this resort is that it is in walking distance to the city of San Jose. It was nice to be able to tour the city at our leisure and without investing in a cab ride.

The other aspect I liked about this hotel is that a lot of native Mexicans stay here. So unlike other all-inclusive resorts which seem to be a transplant of America in a foreign country, it was nice to have a taste of the local culture while at the resort. We also met some amazing people from Canada.

There were many meals that we excellent and the staff even prepared our fresh-caught tuna one night - and they did a great job.

As this was our first time at an all-inclusive, I do not have a reference as to how it compares to other resorts. But if you are looking for a good place with local flavor and an awesome location, I would check it out.

Room Tip: Get one on the first floor facing the ocean. Pick the #7000 building if you want to be close to the...

This place does not look that great from the outside. But once you get checked in and set up the fun begins. I found this place to have amazing service, awesome food and clean rooms. The beach is beautiful but because of the undertow you cannot swim out too far. They upgraded us to a suite on the main floor with a hammock for practically nothing. Which when I booked online, it was an extra 50 dollars per night.

The only negative thing was in the lobby they have people set up that seem to work for the hotel (but they don't) trying to sell you excursions. But when you in actuality sit down they are selling time shares. So if you plan on staying her DO NOT sit down with the people on the lobby.

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone. I also find the people that write bad reviews about this place expect too much and are high maintenance. They also seem to refuse to make a somewhat of a bad situation into a good one. And the "things" they are complaint about can happen at any resort at anytime.

Room Tip: Stay on the main floor. A hammock on you own deck is the way to go!

Our travel agent booked the resort for us between the 11th of Nov to the 18th. Turned out to a great trip. the beach is 2nd to none in Cabo. If you're looking for a great beach in a great location try this one. Remember Cabo San Lucus is #0 mins away by cab so if you are looking to party this might not be the best place. However, Cabo San Jose is only a 15 min walk. Great little town.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the beach or the pool are best.

We stayed in building 7 and enjoyed it but would really would have enjoyed a ground floor room instead of the 3rd. floor. We asked for one but they wanted $20/day more. We did get a partial ocean view room, which was nice for sunrises. This is a very laid back resort. If you are looking for a quiet time by a pool hit the small pool at the eastern end of the resort. Elma the bartender there is a sweetheart and will help you with your Spanish if your looking for that. The tortuga (turtle) nursery is 200' away and very interesting to watch the keepers dig up the babies and then send them on there life voyage. The resort is clean and well maintained but lacks lustre in it's bars and restaurants. There was about a 1/4 of the resort which had reno's underway during our visit. That had some bars and restaurants not operating and may have added to the boring evening ambience. If travelling with children this is a family resort and the big pool had all the trappings for kids; loud music and pool toys, etc. which would keep the little ones happy for hours.
The food was bland but that's what I expect now in 3* resorts.

On the cautionary side never leave your personal items on a table and expect to get them back!
My wife's cell phone was accidently left on our table when we left the dinner buffet one evening. When we returned to get it the waiter said he hadn't see it. Whoever found it was savvy enough to shut it down completely so we couldn't trace it. We are pretty sure of the culprit and we hope karma returns to that person swiftly! FYI this took place in the Napa Restaurant.

The concierge, Leticia was very helpful in suggesting we rent a car and drive to La Paz for a day trip instead of taking the bus. This suggestion allowed us to circumnavigate the lower Baja. Not only did we spend time in La Paz but we got to see Hotel California and many great vistas! The highlight of the trip, Thanks Leticia!

My sister and I spent a week at the Holiday Inn, a gift from our children. The first day was disappointing for several reasons: Our room, in block 7, seemed miles from anywhere; in the evening moths of every size swarmed the balcony, attracted by the bright lamp mounted on the outer wall; the web-site stated, "We love Canadian money!" but we found that was not true. The next day, prepared to leave, we requested another room. Fortunately, this was when we met Enrique who ensured the remainder of our stay was all we hoped it would be. We were moved to block 5 where the balcony was so much better...great view, no moths...and he explained how Canadian coins aren't accepted by banks/shops, making American dollar bills still the preference for tips.
We were so happy with our room that we put up with no hot water and the lighting issues; the maid service was wonderful, all those little touches we never see in our hotels. Bathrooms throughout the resort were clean and the counters were adorned with simple yet surprisingly beautiful displays.
The staff were friendly and easy-going; breakfast & lunch were good, dinner usually not. We referred to the events guide but always seemed to miss evening events, somehow...we only caught the fireworks because we heard the noise. But we came for the sun and the beach and San Jose, all of which we loved. Beware shoppers, though! Silver is most likely plated and peso calculations vary from shop to shop!
bottom line: Great location, service and staff.

Room Tip: Block 5 was a great location

We just came back from a wonderful week at this resort. We had an ocean view lanai room in building 7 and it was fantastic. We watched the sun rise and the sunset every day .We loved the low key vibe and the positive nature of the staff. We enjoyed the bike ride with Kevan- a tip- he takes the guests on Saturday to the Organic market in San Jose. We walked into town via the estuary, released baby turtles into the ocean, walked to the new marina and had a drink at the Container restaurant, took the bus into Cabo St. Lucas and took a glass bottom boat to the arch and walked to the Mega. We went into town for dinner twice- eating a the Maison del Angel, and Salsita's-both were very good. Food at the resort- Breakfast- very good, lunch -good,snacks-good-remember you can always get frest guacamole and salsa and fish tacos, dinner welllll...not so good.I'm not sure why it fell apart at dinner- the satff were good and the atmosphere good too but strange and limited food choices. The drinks were generally quite good- no top shelf liquors for after dinner but hey get a bottle for your room at the Mega. Overall the value this resort gives is probably unbeatable. Activity staff were hard working and security was always on the beach-you won't get time-share hassled here.
