Sitting in the firelight in the courtyard of Casa Natalia, Mi Cocina's home, with palm tree columns and the night sky for a ceiling, you will feel as though you have been transported to a different and better world. The food and wines (such as the excellent recent Mexican vintages of the Valle de Guadalupe) only reinforce this impression. Take for instance the generously portioned chicken with chocolate. The sauce is no mole poblano, but a smooth and full-flavored chocolate sauce of Mozart-like simplicity and culinary ingenuity. Every dish we had bore the marks of expert preparation of excellent ingredients. The service was both expert and genial. If you are in San Jose and looking for a fine-dining experience, this should be your first thought.
