Hubby and I went to Casa Dorada the end of September/beginning of October for a 9 day stay. We traded our timeshare through Interval for this property and boy I'm glad we did. Let me say that we have traveled quite a bit. We have stayed at some very nice hotels, but this place ranks in our top 5. Overall the hotel is wonderful. Grounds, rooms and common areas are immaculate. Everyone is always working on something. The staff are incredibly friendly and very helpful.
We had an Executive Suite. We had a separate bedroom with a king size bed, Jacuzzi spa (which we never used!), huge bathroom, small kitchen that had a mini fridge, microwave, blender, toaster, and stuff for cooking/eating. There was also a small table with 4 chairs and a living room area. The bed was very comfortable. We also had two flat screen TV's, 1 in the bedroom and 1 in the living room. We did notice there was a DVD player in the bedroom. Not sure if there was one in the living room. Since the mini fridge didn't have an ice maker they said all we had to do was call down and they would bring us a bucket of ice. No problem at all. I just used some of the plastic containers in the room and put into the freezer.
The one thing to know is you have to have a room key in the slot by the door for anything to run in the room. This includes the air and the lights. It was not a problem for us. We left one key in the slot and just shared the other key.
There were two large closets that had shelving inside, plus a few drawers in the bedroom. There was also another closet in the living room with shelving and drawers. Plenty of storage space.
Our favorite thing was the double patio. We had door walls in both the living room and our bedroom that opened onto a large patio. We were in room 428 so we overlooked the pool, could see ocean and the mountains and almost down to the arch. We had our coffee/breakfast here every morning listening to the waves crash on the beach, sat out here in the afternoon and every night when we came back before we went to bed.
We spent everyday at the pool in the section by the swim up bar. Hubby did spend quite a bit of time in the ocean as well. We did spend a couple of early mornings on the beach as well. The beach is kept up very nice. They spent quite a bit of time racking/cleaning every morning. Yes there are quite a few vendors on the beach, but a "no gracias" did the trick.
The service everywhere we went at the resort was top notch. During our time the staff recognized and knew what we wanted. The had our drinks ready as we were coming up to the bar. They had 2 for 1 drink specials on Monday, Wed and Fri. The had a special on beers 3 for 2 going while we were there. They had different drinks on special throughout the week as well. On the rest of the days they had happy hour from 11 - 12 and from 4 - 5. The waiters were always stopping by to ask if we needed anything and to ask how we were doing. We had excellent service from Gustavo who worked the pool. Also great service from Ivan who worked behind the swim up bar. Also Ivan the pool concierge was always walking around checking on everyone making sure you were happy and asking if there was anything he could do for you.
The individuals working at the front door were also very helpful. We had a little issue with a vendor that we had booked with for a surf fishing trip. When he didn't arrive at the appointed time they called for hubby and handled it for us. Every time we left they also asked how things were and what could they do for us. When they saw us sitting waiting for our transportation the last day they wanted to know if we wanted to call them to make sure they were coming. They did just to confirm so we didn't have issues.
We also went shopping at Walmart the first day. Our room wasn't ready so they kept all our refrigerated items cold. When we got to the room they had already brought it all up and put it away. We also went fishing and had to bring the frozen fish back the night before we left. They also kept that in the freezer for us overnight. Now that is service!!
We had no hassles with the timeshare folks at all. Check in/check out was a breeze. This would definitely be a place we stayed at again and would highly recommend to anyone. There were couples, families, groups and people that wanted to have fun, but there is enough room that you don't have to worry about not seeing or hearing anything if you don't want to.
We had the brunch at Maydan which was OK. Nothing to write home about, but it did it's job in providing us some much needed food. We also ate at 12 Tribes our last night. The food was very good. We would both go back for dinner. We talked to another group and they had eaten there 3 nights and they enjoyed it as well. Good choice for dinner. Very nice, service was excellent and the view can't be beaten.
Now my only negatives, which aren't bad at all, are really minor issues to say the least. We had to call several times to get extra toilet paper. Not sure if it was a specific maid that didn't leave it. Called the front desk and it was there pronto. The room could have used a few more hangers since I brought a lot of dresses. No problem, just doubled up. I was very surprised that the door walls did not have screens on them. It was comfortable in the evening so it would have been nice to be able to leave the door walls open and listen to the waves during the night. The last thing is we would have enjoyed some kind of activities at the pool/resort. They did have a volleyball net at the lower pool, but maybe some yoga in the morning, bingo around the pool, water aerobics in the morning, trivia games..... I'm not talking crazy games or drinking games, just a little something to do.
Overall the good or should I say awesomeness of this resort definitely outshined the minor complaints. If you are thinking of booking this resort do not hesitate. You will love it!!
