My husband and I stayed for 3 nights the very last weekend of April. I've read previous reviews, and it seems like Casa Dorada has worked out the kinks. There was no blaring music, and we had excellent, friendly, courteous service from everyone. We could hear the noise from Mango's next door while sitting by the Casa Dorada pool, but not from our oceanfront room. TIP: When our group checked in (separately) we were all offered upgrades to suites. We compared notes later, and the best negotiators got their suite upgrade for $50/night.
I thought the food was above-average. We ordered room service one night, which was delicious, it arrived quickly, and we found it quite reasonable (steak nachos, a pasta entree, and a bottle of wine for $67 including all the service fees?!) I also had chips, guacamole, and a diet Coke by the pool one day and it was only $15 including a generous gratuity.
The spa is also gorgeous, though I did not feel the quality of my services justified the very high prices. I had the fitness center to myself for workouts, but it might start to feel a little crowded once their occupancy ramps up.
Every detail of the decor and construction have a gorgeous, modern vibe. The property is also spotless, and there are always staff visible wiping, polishing, or sweeping the public areas. Nikki Beach is also a 3 minute walk up the beach. The crowd at Nikki Beach was younger, but after enjoying the pristine cleanliness of Casa Dorado, Nikki Beach's pool looked like the Exxon Valdez had ran aground there.
The 2nd half of our trip, we stayed at the REMOTE Hilton Los Cabos, and I have to say the central location of Casa Dorada makes it much more fun. 'The Office' restaurant is right next door on the beach (we ate breakfast there twice). The harbor and shopping mall are a quick 5 minute walk downhill. Unfortunately, the road between the hotel and mall was unpaved, and was the most Mexico-ish aspect of my entire visit.
Speaking of Mexico-ish, I'd been looking forward to practicing my Spanish, but nearly all of the staff at Casa Dorada speak English quite well, though the staff at the Hilton were consistently more fluent.
I had an awesome experience at Casa Dorada, and since our friends bought a timeshare I look forward to returning. ;-D
