“Great hotel, great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

I have just returned from four days in Los Cabos @ Casa Dorada and the experience was excellent. Feb 2-5, 2013. Our room was huge, with a kitchenette that was very helpful for casual refreshments and snacks, an independent bedroom and it was perfectly located (Room 219), we were very close to the swimming pool (10 steps from room to the water).

My 10-year old son could spend time in the water while we could sit outside of our room listening some music. The water temperature was warm, very easy to get it, even for my wife who can´t stand cold water.

We had lunch in the hotel only once, the rest of the days we walked around the hotel, there are many good restaurants at walking-distance, plenty of choices available.

There was a wedding one night and we could hear some of the music inside the room, but it didn´t bother us.

The hotel is conviniently located very close to the Marina in Cabo San Lucas, so any activities related to whale-watching, the arch, etc., are very close.

The only downside I could think of is the proximity of the hotel to the public access to the beach, which brings some people selling their products or offering tours; it did not affect us because is winter and the ocean water is cold and we spend our time by the swimming pool.

Room Tip: Rooms near the swimming pool are recommended.

This is our third visit to Casa Dorado and the main reason we stay there is because of the location, no car needed which is a huge plus. The staff are so friendly and helpful and always smiling and the grounds are immaculate and lovely. The pool area is nice as well and the rooms are always clean. The not so greats are the pillows, the air conditioning that worked about half of the time, the breakfast buffet which they cannot seem to keep hot or even warm. It was 40$ for a cold buffet. Also if you like a really quiet atmosphere then you will be annoyed because the beach bars below can be loud at night. That doesn't really bother us but it might it may if you like to sleep with the door open to hear the ocean. I wish Casa would find some way to keep their time share people from being so pushy. We know what to expect when we go there and in no uncertain terms will be pushed into one of their presentations but you almost have to be rude so they will leave you alone. I think the reason the rooms are never ready until 4 o'clock is so that they can try to trap you into getting your welcome packet and listening to their sales pitch. The maid were always cleaning our room early in the morning so I think that must be part of the whole time share trap. The positives outweigh the negatives though so I would recommend staying here. Also, the restaurant is just ok, eat away and you will be happier. Cabo is safe at night so wandering around and eating at the local places is better. Just be ready to always say "no thank you" firmly because someone is always trying to get you to buy something in Mexico. You have to take the good with the bad!

Room Tip: stay on the south side if you can! Less noise from the Mango Deck

This place is the perfect combination of location and quality. You get the same service as you would at the major hotel properties farther away from town but walking distance to town. (no need to take taxi back and forth every time you want to go enjoy a dinner off the property)

Definitely not as quite as some of the other hotels farther away but if you like some action and one of the best views in Cabo then this is it.

Brought some of the fish we caught and they cooked it for us for the next 2 days and kept it for us in the restaurant.

I recently stayed at this resort for a long weekend with a friend of mine. When we arrived we thought we had hit the jackpot. The resort is gorgeous....the grounds, the views, the rooms, all unbelievable. Then we went to dinner on the resort. The food was average at best. We decided to try breakfast on the resort the next day to see if it was a pattern....it was/is. For the money you are paying to stay at this resort, the food should be great. Not so. Then when we wanted to shower that night, the water would not get warm. The whole trip it barely got lukewarm. No fun.
I would not stay here again. The views etc can be enjoyed without paying the money and giving up a warm shower.

Late from the annual Thanksgiving holiday. Everyday was sunny, every day in the ocean swimming and paddling on a few. Clearly the pool, and each night out to dinner. The staff is always accomodating and friendly, and so is the spa team.
My Rose loves her oversized bathtub and languises in it before coming to bed

This year there was a rambunctious wedding party on a Saturday night that was loud well into 1:00AM, with some uncivilized and even later inebriation, but it is a wedding and excess does create animals.

We don't eat breakfast at the resort

Other than that blip, sleep was blissful, the weather sublme, the vacation a success

Room Tip: Be polite and ask about occupancy

We were there for a wedding and extended our trip a few more days. The most important thing to take away is to not, under any circumstances, attend the timeshare events. It was a waste of 3 hours of our day and we were insulted by a still-drunk, rude, American sales guy for not buying their timeshare. After that experience, it all got better. The service is good; the rooms are spacious, have nice views (as long as you're above the ground level), and are comfortable. We, did, however, find a lighter in the pocket of one of our bathrobes, which leads me to believe they don't wash or check those very well. The pool is nice and the food is pretty good. The bar has a pool table and plenty of room to sit, although it's not very lively given the proximity to much more fun alternatives. The hotel is steps from the beach, which is nice. The spa was nice, and the massages were excellent. The gym is ok. The outside cafe at the hotel across the street is excellent, too. They had great smooties and shakes for after working out. I would stay there again for the right price but would never, ever, ever, attend one of the time share events.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the third floor or above for a nice view.

The staff at the hotel were very pleasant and the beach was wonderful. It was not crowded and the staff was very accommodating. You could lay out and watch the activities on the water and in the air. The lunch specials were a good deal, but the restaurant was rather pricey. It is an easy walk to the main part of the town and there are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby.
