I was searching for reviews on this hotel before I booked and found there are very few so I will try to write as much detail as possible.
I booked my reservation through bookit.com. I had never heard of this website but they had the best rate. I didn't experience any problems. I booked a 1 bedroom suite for $350/night. The "rack rate" on this room is $500+.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel during their "soft opening". We weren't aware of this until after we arrived. We were informed by other guest (members) they were warned to be prepared for issues if they stayed prior to the official grand opening date. I'm still not sure when the official date is. We heard different dates while we were there.
First of all, the hotel is beautiful and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!! I think this hotel has the best location in Cabo. You are so close to the town and minutes from all the action on the beach at the Mango Deck/Office/Billigans. You can hang by the pool and you'll hear some of the action but not enough that's it's bad. If you want complete silence, this isn't the hotel for you.
We stayed for 5 nights. During this time, the water was shut off 3 times. I understand there are going to be issues but I wasn't completely happy with how they were handled. The first time the water went off, I called the front desk and they said they'd send somebody up. I waiting 1/2 hour and nobody showed. I tried the water again and it came back on so I started to fill the bath. Left the room and came back to a tub full of brown water. I left the water in the tub for the maintenance people to see. We were going out to dinner so I stopped by the front desk and asked them to have someone look at it while we were out. Came back 4 hours later. The water was gone but there was a thick brown scum all over the tub. I'm not sure if it was worked on, or if the water drained. Housecleaning the next day cleaned it up and it was fine after that.
The 2nd time the water went off we called and 2 guys were in our room within minutes. It was back on in less than 5 minutes.
The 3rd time the water went off my husband was in the shower. He went down the front desk (full of soap :-) and complained. After asking for the Manager and explained this was the 3rd time, he was able to negotiate a $70 spa credit for our troubles.
We ordered room service twice. One time was just coffee in the AM and it came within 15 minutes. I ordered one afternoon and after waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes, I gave up. It never showed and I was never charged.
The rooms do not have the "welcome" book with the hotel details. The phones are not marked so you need to dial zero for everything which can take awhile, The living room didn't have a TV yet. We were told they were coming that week. If you make International calls from your room, be prepared to pay. I was charged $47 for a 10-15 minute conversation but I think that's the going rate.
The restaurant on site is called 12 Tribes. Great service, great location, weird food. Check out the menu first and make sure it's your thing. I highly recommend the Baja Cantina restaurant which is only 1 block away. Great service & great food.
Like most, this hotel is a time share. High pressure sales! Of course we were approached before we even checked in. A word of advice - do the tour if you have time but not on your first morning. Wait until towards the end of the stay so you've had some experience with the hotel first. We were able to tell the salesperson about our problems at the hotel. We were offered $250 cash do attend the presentation. I feel so sorry for people who don't know they will pay you to attend these! Never settle for just breakfast!!! I heard several complaints from other guests about how high pressure the sales were. We were very tempted to buy because they offered a fixed week and room but decided it wasn't best for us. We were told at the beginning of the presentation that April 4th was their official Grand Opening date so he could offer "special deals" that day. If that was the grand opening day, they didn't celebrate at all. I think that was a scam. I would think there would be balloons or some type of party. I was told by other guests they were told different dates were the opening dates. If you are at all serious about purchasing, talk to the other members staying there first. We received mixed reviews. A good rule is to also tell your salesperson you will not decide that day. You want a full day to think about it. Of course they will tell you that's not possible but if they want a chance at a sale, they'll find a way.
We also toured the Pueblo Bonito Sunset. Great hotel to visit and see the other side of Cabo. (Pacific) The sales person there was great - very low pressure and interested to spend time with. We were given about $500 in restaurant/spa/taxi certificates to attend plus breakfast/lunch/open bar while we were there. We spent about 3 hours with the salesperson because it was enjoyable. Beware of being offered certicates rather than cash though. We received four $50 spa certificates. We later found out there was a $30 per person fee (because we weren't staying there) and you could only use 2 certificates at one time. Try to negotiate for cash. That's the safest bet.
Several people complained they got stuck in the elevators. The elevators are really small and very unreliable. Take the stairs if you want to be safe until the bugs are worked out.
Housekeeping staff was good but turn down service was hit & miss.
I would stay at this hotel again the future based on the location and we loved the room. I completely understand a new hotel will have problems. I was just disappointed with the lack of concern when problems were reported. For example, when I told them there was brown scum in my tub I was told, "Thank you for brining this to our attention". I wanted to hear, "I'm so sorry, we'll get someone on it right away!".
This is a 5 star hotel but the service isn't quite there yet.
