I was searching for reviews on this hotel before I booked and found there are very few so I will try to write as much detail as possible.

I booked my reservation through bookit.com. I had never heard of this website but they had the best rate. I didn't experience any problems. I booked a 1 bedroom suite for $350/night. The "rack rate" on this room is $500+.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel during their "soft opening". We weren't aware of this until after we arrived. We were informed by other guest (members) they were warned to be prepared for issues if they stayed prior to the official grand opening date. I'm still not sure when the official date is. We heard different dates while we were there.

First of all, the hotel is beautiful and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!! I think this hotel has the best location in Cabo. You are so close to the town and minutes from all the action on the beach at the Mango Deck/Office/Billigans. You can hang by the pool and you'll hear some of the action but not enough that's it's bad. If you want complete silence, this isn't the hotel for you.

We stayed for 5 nights. During this time, the water was shut off 3 times. I understand there are going to be issues but I wasn't completely happy with how they were handled. The first time the water went off, I called the front desk and they said they'd send somebody up. I waiting 1/2 hour and nobody showed. I tried the water again and it came back on so I started to fill the bath. Left the room and came back to a tub full of brown water. I left the water in the tub for the maintenance people to see. We were going out to dinner so I stopped by the front desk and asked them to have someone look at it while we were out. Came back 4 hours later. The water was gone but there was a thick brown scum all over the tub. I'm not sure if it was worked on, or if the water drained. Housecleaning the next day cleaned it up and it was fine after that.

The 2nd time the water went off we called and 2 guys were in our room within minutes. It was back on in less than 5 minutes.

The 3rd time the water went off my husband was in the shower. He went down the front desk (full of soap :-) and complained. After asking for the Manager and explained this was the 3rd time, he was able to negotiate a $70 spa credit for our troubles.

We ordered room service twice. One time was just coffee in the AM and it came within 15 minutes. I ordered one afternoon and after waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes, I gave up. It never showed and I was never charged.

The rooms do not have the "welcome" book with the hotel details. The phones are not marked so you need to dial zero for everything which can take awhile, The living room didn't have a TV yet. We were told they were coming that week. If you make International calls from your room, be prepared to pay. I was charged $47 for a 10-15 minute conversation but I think that's the going rate.

The restaurant on site is called 12 Tribes. Great service, great location, weird food. Check out the menu first and make sure it's your thing. I highly recommend the Baja Cantina restaurant which is only 1 block away. Great service & great food.

Like most, this hotel is a time share. High pressure sales! Of course we were approached before we even checked in. A word of advice - do the tour if you have time but not on your first morning. Wait until towards the end of the stay so you've had some experience with the hotel first. We were able to tell the salesperson about our problems at the hotel. We were offered $250 cash do attend the presentation. I feel so sorry for people who don't know they will pay you to attend these! Never settle for just breakfast!!! I heard several complaints from other guests about how high pressure the sales were. We were very tempted to buy because they offered a fixed week and room but decided it wasn't best for us. We were told at the beginning of the presentation that April 4th was their official Grand Opening date so he could offer "special deals" that day. If that was the grand opening day, they didn't celebrate at all. I think that was a scam. I would think there would be balloons or some type of party. I was told by other guests they were told different dates were the opening dates. If you are at all serious about purchasing, talk to the other members staying there first. We received mixed reviews. A good rule is to also tell your salesperson you will not decide that day. You want a full day to think about it. Of course they will tell you that's not possible but if they want a chance at a sale, they'll find a way.

We also toured the Pueblo Bonito Sunset. Great hotel to visit and see the other side of Cabo. (Pacific) The sales person there was great - very low pressure and interested to spend time with. We were given about $500 in restaurant/spa/taxi certificates to attend plus breakfast/lunch/open bar while we were there. We spent about 3 hours with the salesperson because it was enjoyable. Beware of being offered certicates rather than cash though. We received four $50 spa certificates. We later found out there was a $30 per person fee (because we weren't staying there) and you could only use 2 certificates at one time. Try to negotiate for cash. That's the safest bet.

Several people complained they got stuck in the elevators. The elevators are really small and very unreliable. Take the stairs if you want to be safe until the bugs are worked out.

Housekeeping staff was good but turn down service was hit & miss.

I would stay at this hotel again the future based on the location and we loved the room. I completely understand a new hotel will have problems. I was just disappointed with the lack of concern when problems were reported. For example, when I told them there was brown scum in my tub I was told, "Thank you for brining this to our attention". I wanted to hear, "I'm so sorry, we'll get someone on it right away!".

This is a 5 star hotel but the service isn't quite there yet.

I recently stayed at the "new' Casa Dorada on Medano Beach. We stayed in a penthouse and came willing to overlook the "soft opening" but so many things went wrong it was just a terrible vacation. Music was blaring every day by the pool. The morning buffet served practically raw bacon, and my room had several things that did not work. Hot tub was broken, shower faucet was not working, air conditioner in master bedroom was broken- the whole room smelled like sewage- due to faulty air conditioners. The maid service was poor, kitchen was not stocked with items like a wine opener or pasta strainer. Waitress at 12 tribes restaurant was horrible and spilled an entire tray of water on my 7 year old daughter. Pool was too cold for my kids to swim in. The noise from the mango deck bar and the office was so loud at night the bed frame shook. Service was poor- especially on the beach. waiters by the pool were scarce too. Room Service took over 1.5 hours. Fireworks were set off at 1:30 in the morning at the hotel next door (the Melia). It was so loud in my room. Definitely not a place for young children or anyone trying to relax. Will never return.

We just came back from a weeklong trip at the Casa Dorada. My wife and I took our two boys (6 and 3) for some rest and relaxation. This hotel did not disappoint.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite...full kitchen (minus dishwasher), peninsula counter with barstools, stone countertops and floors, marble bath with double sinks, whirlpool tub, vanity, LCD TV, sofabed, three Hunter "palm leaf"-style ceiling fans, chaise lounge and two furnished balconies with views of the ocean and Lands End...all designed with a cool, modern and sophisticated aesthetic (dark woods, tan fabrics, glass table top, stainless fixtures and appliances and orange and red accents).

There are two main pools here...one warm, one cold. Both are beautiful and separated by a soothing waterfall. The kiddie pool is nice for children under three, and the fountains shooting into the pool is a playful touch. Eating poolside is quite a treat with yummy ceviche, steak nachos and chicken tacos (more like taquitos) topping my list. And the drinks? Try the mojito. The staff remember your last order and always serve with a smile.

My wife and I took in some massages while the kids stayed at the "Kids Club". The spa at Casa Dorada is truly divine with many styles of massages and treatments from which to choose. The therapists really know what they're doing. You can even have a massage on the beach or in your room.

It was the last week of the soft opening. There was definitely some touch-ups going on throughout our stay, but nothing too distracting.

This hotel is at the top of my list when we return to Cabo.

With a soft opening, not everything was up and running.
We had our first massage - WOW. felt like a million dollars.
Beautiful pools, walking distant to downtown and the actions.
Stated in a Junior suite, biger then most suites.
12 Tribes was greet both food and service.
Rudy Mendoza of the staff, bend over backwords to make sure everyting was fine.

It was my first time to Cabo San Lucas but went everywhere in the week we were there. We stayed from 1 February to 8 February. I really think it’s the best location of all the hotels. Great views, close to everything, great beach! The hotel is right behind the Mango Deck, Billygans and the Office. Some have said that the noise from the bars bothered them but I personally never noticed it. I may have been making too much noise of my own. The first couple of days we were there, the hotel was blasting music in the pool area very early in the morning but that stopped. I don't know if it was a construction issue or the fact that I complained to every person who I saw that worked at the hotel. I'm sorry but I love to sleep in a bit on vacation!

The hotel in general is gorgeous. Beautiful views whichever way you looked. The lobby was incredible, very posh and great views of the water. The pool area was super – two pools, one a little cool and a warmer one, which was nice, we hung out in the warmer pool and when I had too many margaritas, I would go to the cooler one to sober up a little. (of course, just so I could keep going!) I think I saw where someone asked if they were infinity pools which they are not. Nice cushions on the pool chaises and awesome fluffy orange towels. I hope they keep that up. Because we were there right after opening, the hotel was maybe one third full so there was no trouble getting good seats at the pool. I did not use the “community” hot tub as we used the one on our deck everyday.

We were supposed to stay in Penthouse #5 which was our friend’s timeshare but it was not ready so they put us in Penthouse #10. Because the hotel was mostly empty we asked if we could move to a bigger penthouse, they moved us to Penthouse #1 which was gigantic, probably 4,000 s.f. Believe me, we were rockstars for the rest of the trip. The way the hotel is set up in an open “U” shape, all of the rooms are facing the water and I would say they all have great views. We were in all three buildings so we did see them all. All the penthouses were fantastic and we did get to see the regular rooms which were really nice too. I loved the sleek modern furniture…that is exactly my style. And everything was super comfy, beds, deck furniture, couches, etc. All of the rooms have lg plasma tv's with some english speaking stations or subtitles. In PH#10 you could turn the tv around so that you could watch from the hot tub on the deck.

The Staff is fantastic. They took care of every request. We had several favorites, Carlos, the doorman – he took care of us in many ways, directions, our rental car, took us on a mini tour of the hotel and to some of the other rooms that were not occupied. There was Bryan, the pool concierge – he made reservations for us and just made sure we were being taken care of and happy in general. And Laura and Laura and Tonya at Club V the bar at Casa Dorado – it was so much fun starting and ending our nights out with these girls and we loved our Spanish lessons from them.

They did have a few issues the week we were there but we were there the day after opening so I am giving them the chance to get those bugs fixed and I don’t want to say anything bad yet. Hopefully, I get asked back with my friends next year!

This was my first review on TA. After using all of you for so long, I thought it was time for me to contribute. I hope you enjoyed it and it was help;ful!

  • Liked — The service was fantastic!
  • Disliked — Not quite finished with construction before they opened but we were told that before we arrived.
