My new wife and I enjoyed a great honeymoon at the RIU Santa Fe. We read all of the previous reviews and went into the week with an open mind. Based on previous reviews, we expected a beautiful resort with mediocre/decent food. That's exactly what we got!
FOOD: Breakfast was actually quite good, especially if you like a typical American breakfast (eggs/sausage/toast). The fresh fruit, and juices were great, and the donuts were awesome! Lunch and dinner were the same every day and it was nothing to get excited about, but I can gladly survive on burgers, fries and pizza, especially given the price!
ROOMS: Our room was beautiful and always very clean. We tipped a few bucks every day which may or may not have helped. We kept valuables in the safe and nothing was ever stolen. It's true that you hear a lot of noise from the halls and the doors close very loudly. If you are a light sleeper, I would suggest bringing a small fan. We did that and it blocked out a lot of the oustide noises. We were in building 3 which was fine. We could have cared less what our view was, as we didn't go on vacation to stand at the window and look out.
RESORT: The place was huge, but don't get the impression that some people try to give that you have to walk around forever. Depending on which building you are in, you may have a short walk to the front desk/pool/beach/restaurants. But this is a resort, not the Super 8. The size of the resort also helps you feel less crowded. We never had a problem finding a chair to lounge in. We also didn't see the massive crowds of drunk teenagers that other people have talked about. We brought books to read and each day we sat by the pool and read without interruption.
It was great. Expect to get what you pay for. Bring a fan. Keep your expectations on the lower end for the food. Have fun!
