“First Time To Cabo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

We vacationed 2/23 - 3/2 & have stayed at a RIU Palace in Riviera Maya area so was familiar with their properties. Traveled thru Apple Vacations. No waiting in line at the check-in desk, we were handed our hotel info, key & wristbands before getting off the bus. Resort is large & we stayed in Building 7 with a partial ocean view. Nice being close to beach & infinity pool but a farther walk to main buffet & other restaurants & large pool. Clean rooms, everything was always restocked in mini-fridge, bar soap available but no lotion & shower area had a shampoo dispenser. Plenty of food selections at buffet & service was excellent. Ate at the steakhouse, suggest having the Shrimp & Land kabob. Also ate at the Mexican & Italian too. Our last day, we had lunch at La Mission & wished we would of ate there before. One night at the buffet, guests were asked to fill out surveys about the resort & the host at the Mexican restaurant asked if we had any comments or complaints. Our only complaint was not having a coffee maker in our room & guest putting towels out to reserve chairs, half of them were empty for many hours. We thought RIU was excellent for service & hard working staff, had more problems with actions of guests. Going thru buffet lines, some guest did not place serving utensils back on plates, letting handles fall into the food. Before we left, there was a larger crowd of young adults that came in, we were glad to be leaving the next day. Swim up bars were crowded & some threw cigarette butts, drink glasses & food plates anywhere they wanted. Only problem with noise at night was the night before leaving. We like to have fun & party too, but at least be considerate of other guests & RIU properties. Did take a water taxi ($10 each) to Lovers beach & snorkeled. The waves were incredible at Divorce beach & watched a young teen surf. Our full day fishing trip wasn't as successful as we hoped, but we took some of the fish we caught & had it prepared at a restaurant in the marina area. Cost $7 each for a full meal with the cooked fish & was very good. We enjoyed our stay in Cabo & would return.

“Stay at the Riu”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

This was a nice resort, it was right on the beach, and it is very big. We were lucky to be in the building close to the beach. This hotel offers an amazing view. We were a little disappointed when we goto to our room and it only had a king bed for 3 people, when we booked a room with 2 double beds. After changing to another room, more disappointment with the 2 double beds being more like super singles. Not very big at all. Beds were also very hard and the pillows were terrible. House keeping was spotty, Somedays we got fresh towels and other days not. Food over all was good, but watch out if you have allergies, not everything is labled correctly at the buffet. The retaurants in the evenings were a little hard to get a reservation for, and when you showed up you did have to wait a bit to be seated. Drinks overall were a bit strong, but the sun and relaxation made up for some of those deficiencies.

“It was awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013 via mobile

A girlfriend and I booked a trip just to get out of winter, and we were really satisfied with this resort. I would go back. Rooms were very nice. Beach was gorgeous. Food was incredible! --especially the guacamole and the nachos (they tasted like movie theatre popcorn but in a chip-- only 10,000 calories I'm sure, but who counts them on vacation, right?). My only suggestion is to bring small cash for vendors if you are buying things on the beach. The hotel doesn't have an ATM. I didn't buy one thing over $5 from them--they are willing to bargain! Might take you walking away and sitting in your resort sun chair--but before you leave they might come back and signal for you that they'll sell for your price. They don't hassle you at all if your behind the roped hotel beach, which I loved. They aren't allowed to come up to you either. Overall very clean, quiet (even for early March). Worth every penny.

“Great stay in Cabo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

Went with a group of 7 people and stayed at the Riu Santa Fe from February 2-10. Overall, we had a great time. The resort is spotless - staff are constantly cleaning the grounds and everything is very clean. We stayed in Building 7, and all had oceanfront rooms. I had read other reviews about people complaining this building was loud, but we had no complaints. I recommend that you pay the extra for the oceanfront room due to its proximity to the pool and ocean, however one couple in our group had an "ocean view" room with a view that was blocked by a wall.

The staff were extremely nice and went out of their way to help us with anything. In particular, Diana at the main buffet restaurant was amazing and we always asked to sit in her section for breakfast. The food was typical resort food, but wasn't bad. In fact, this was the only all inclusive resort I've stayed at that didn't make me sick from eating the food. Lunches had the least amount of selection, but there was always something to eat. They had a great selection of fresh fruit for breakfast, and also made fresh smoothies. We tried 3 of the 4 a la carte restaurants. The Mexican and Italian were both decent (we even went to the Mexican restaurant twice!), but the Asian wasn't that great.

This hotel has a great location, and is only about a 5 minute drive to downtown Cabo. We went to town twice because it was so conveniently located and you can get a cab for $12 for 4 people, and $3 for every extra person.

The one thing that was annoying about the resort was the lack of chairs in the pool area. We had to be down by the pool for 8 a.m. to secure 7 chairs together, and we noticed that some people would put their towels down on chairs and then leave for the entire day. They should find another way to organize this better.

One thing that put me off was the pool with the bar and infinity pool right by the ocean. There were so many people in the pool at some points that it felt like you were sitting in a hot tub with 50 other people. The water was disgustingly warm, and there were people in there drinking ALL day and you know they weren't getting out to go to the bathroom. We even witnessed a girl vomit into the pool in the middle of the day! This is definitely a party resort.

Overall, it was a great trip for a group of friends... I highly recommend you see for yourself!

Room Tip: Be sure to pay a little extra to get an oceanfront room in Building 7. It's worth the view and i...

“Puke Fest”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

When we first arived at the hotel it is pretty and clean Our room was on the second floor and overlooking a natural preserve. We have been to many RIU's and this one had NO security anywhere. We went down to the pool near the ocean and beautiful view of the ocean and THEN the sight at the pool bar was sick. Old, young and in between yelling and screaming and no control whats so ever. We went to the other pool and it was more quiet. Two days later all the spring breakers arrived and I never saw so many drunk young and old, and throwing up everywhere publicly, including in the pool. Nothing was done with the throw up and I told everyone to get out and they threw a bucket of bleach and that was it, and everyone jumped back in. DONT go MARCH or APRil. I felt sorry for the families arriving when we were leaving.

Room Tip: Don't go for no security means trouble
