I read all of the mixed reviews on the SF and I must say they did not deter me one bit. I am not picky and a week at a new resort in Cabo for a very very good price was fabulous enough in my book anyday. I did love the resort and I will start with what exactly it was that I loved. First, the view is spectacular- I think it is perfectly situated for the best view- you get the view of all of the resorts on the way to the marina as well as the arch. Second, the pools are fabulous and beautiful- and big- especially the main infinity pool. They are refreshing- I didnt find them too cold- it was actually a nice relief after sitting in that hot hot mexico sun. Plus there are TONS of chairs- never a shortage AT ALL. Third, the grounds are well maintained and well kept. The resort will be especially beautiful after the plants and flowers develop in years to come. Ok, now the little things... First, our semi ocean view room was only ocean view if you bent waaay over the railing. My parents booked semi OV also and had a HUGE balcony two doors down with a much better view. We asked to switch just to see what the options were- I mean, how much time do you spend in your room anyway? They said they would write it down and call if one became available. The next morning there was a letter under our door saying to call the front desk and that one was available. It actually ended up being further back from the ocean so we stayed put. Second, the steam room/vapor room in the spa is phenomenal- I got so used to using it as well as the sauna, after my workouts for the first half of my vacation and then they both broke. I was told they would be fixed the day I was supposed to leave. I did go back before leaving and first thing that morning it was fixed, which was great. I heard the steam room in the mens room was broken as well. Third, the bartenders at all of the swim up bars (except Jorge- LOVED him!!) were very slow, never smiled, and acted as though you were bothering them. I got to the point where I went to the gift shop to buy a large cup so I wouldnt have to go bother them as much. And I tipped almost everytime I went up, and that didnt even help. That was kind of disappointing as I love fun bartenders who laugh and do fun things. And finally, they never refreshed our mini fridge, we had to call twice just to get more beer and water. But that wasnt really a problem. I dont really consider those big issues though, and was just glad to be in that cabo sun! A couple other things to note- the food was good, we only ate at the asian, which I dont eat so I went next door to the main buffet several times and brought in my own food. Everyone loved the chicken skewers there. The peel and eat shrimp at the buffet was great- I just wish they had it every night- it was kind of hit or miss. There are lots of computers in the sports bar but you cant use them until 8am. Building 7 is the best if you want the beach pool- which is the BEST in my opinion, the beach view is spectacular. The beach bars are about a 20 minute walk, the marina is about 25-30. The beach is hard walking, but its a good leg workout. There is a massage hut about 15 minutes down the beach- I went twice and paid 35 dollars for an hour deep tissue massage- I HIGHLY recommend that. We took a glass bottom boat for 10/pp and got a GREAT tour of the arch, the sea lions, the window, lovers/divorce beach, and he even took us out further when he spotted a whale. Swim Caribe is on the beach, it is the Riu's spot for booking tours/water taxis, etc. We used them to get a parasailing boat which was super convenient. If you want a water taxi though, go to the red and white striped umbrella on the beach in front of the SF- they will call for one for you. Swim Caribe schedules them by the hour I think, and I was told I would have to wait a while. I flipped my wristband and went over to the Palace quite a few times. Their sports bar is phenomenal. I loved the palace- they serve their drinks in real hurricane and martini glasses instead of the plastic ones at the palace. Their dining room is about the same but they serve drinks there- anything you want, unlike the SF- and pull out your chair for you, which is a nice little touch. I really liked the glass drink glasses though, a day of 7oz plastic glasses leaves one longing for a nice real glass- you can get that at the palace. The SF does serve wine at dinner. The line for dinner reservations was never that long from what I saw. Only saw one show- Grease. It was pretty good. Never heard complaints about the entertainment from anyone. The bars by the entertainment have the potential to get rowdy and were at times, but fun! We used TransCabo for transfers, booked on their website and had no problems. We stopped at a liquor store for beer for the ride. The marina was awesome, as well as the beach bars. I only ate at the Giggling Marlin, which was good. Didnt love El Squid Roe- kinda too cliche touristy for me- I much preferred the Giggling Marlin and The Mango Deck on the beach. The Giggling Marlin has the best Miami Vices ever. We had late night drinks at the office one night which is beautiful and lovely- they have wonderful mexican blankets draped over the chairs to cure that cabo evening chill. The weather was beautiful but definitely cool at night. I wore pants, and a couple layers of shirts and at times was still chilly. The pool bars dont open until 10am. We didnt have a problem with anyone stealing anything, but we used common sense. The spa was overpriced- the jacuzzi area was nice....I think that is all I can think of right now. Overall it was awesome, but if I went back, I think I would stay at the Palace- but dont get me wrong, the Santa Fe was great, but my only wish was that the bartenders would have been more happy/fun/upbeat. But all in all I loved it!! And to anyone, feel free to PM me to ask questions, I would be happy to! Oh, and I took over 400 pictures and can only post 10 so if you are looking for something particular, let me know and I can send you a pic if I have it!
