After reading the reviews, I was scared of what I was getting myself into. I exchanged thru Interval International to this resort, and it was my understanding that there were old buildings and they opened a new building in August 2007. Well, I arrived at the resort and was politely greeted at the front desk with English speaking employees. Very nice; arrived early around 3ish, but room was not ready. It was ready at 4 pm which was okay because that is check-in time anyways. I had emailed them a week early to ask for a suite in the new building because of the bad reviews about the old buildings. Well, they don't even own the old buildings anymore. They have one new building and will be completing the second phase of the resort in December 2008 which includes another pool. I was quite surprised when I opened the door to my suite. It was absolutely beautiful, just like the pictures on their website. Granite countertops in kitchen with stainless steel applicances and marble in the bathroom with spa tubs. The decor was also beautiful. The only problem was it was a ways away from the pool, but that was okay. We had a ocean front view and waking up to that was absolutely breathtaking. There was only one restaraunt on the premises which was okay but the same thing, and a bit pricely but not bad. We rented a car right there on site and the price was much better than what the airport had quoted, $150 cheaper. It was worth it because Cabo San Lucas was 30 minutes away and taxis are very expensive, cost to Cabo $35 one-way so we got our money's worth. We went into Cabo every day because that is where all the action was. I am glad I choose this resort for peace and quite and not busy at all. Never had to worry about beach or pool chairs because there was always many available. If you like low key, this is a nice resort. If you want to be in the limelight, stay in Cabo. Didn't know this before I went, but didn't dampen my vacation at all. It is every expensive over there. Food, drinks, everything. Take lots of money. Good resturants in Cabo was Captain Fish at the new Paradise Plaza Mall along with Peacocks and few others. Like I said, very pricey but worth it. They have Hard Rock Cafe and Johnny Rocket there also which is good for regular stuff. To party you have to go to EL SQUID ROW. It is basely for the young crowd, 18-20 years old; my finace and I are in our late 40's and we enjoyed it very much. It was good to laugh and dream of being that young again with so much energy. Overall, the resort was great, and I would go back definitely. I have pictures, but they are just the same as the ones in the photo gallery. Very nice.

I booked my week through Trading Places Trading Company. I went to Cabo with a married couple and one of our friends. We all are in our thirties. I can say reading the lasts reviews before I left for Cabo, helped out a tremendous amount. I booked my ride to and from the airport I booked with Transcabo. http://www.cabosanlucastours.net/Airport-Shuttle.htm

I learned to be firm and strong that you do not want to stay in the old building so I did. I explained to the gentlemen that I wanted to be placed into the new building. I explained that I called the resort and requested to stay into the new building. He was extremely nice and joked around with us and he sent us to our room. The bell man noticed we were booked into the old building I was very upset. By the way it is horrible. (No view and everyone we spoke staying in the old building were very disappointed about it and will not go back.) I went back to the front desk to see why we were put into the old building, when the gentlemen told us he was putting us into the new building. It took us along time to get checked in and we were not happy about it. The rooms were gorgeous and vary spacious. We had a two bedroom unit on the third floor of the new building. The best part of the whole place was the nice rooms. The pool was ok and the beach was fun we went down there. The house keeping was extremely great. We did have one problem with a glass braking and there being no broom in the room it took housekeeping 3 hours to come assist us on cleaning the glass up. The keys systems keep messing up. There was other guest complaining about the keys not working. Every time we went somewhere we would have to walk all the way back down to reprogram a new key. We finally just started to get new keys on day 5. There timeshare system sucks. They told us 2 hours, yea 4 hrs later we finally were done with the timeshare presentation. I would never recommend anyone to go to a timeshare presentation without being paid $300 per couple. They will pay it. Tell them when you set it up you want $300 they have to give it to you if they say they will and they will. We never booked any of our activities at the resort it was cheaper to go down by the company and do it yourself. We went on the jungle cruse extremely fun and the Ecocat tours very nice. We rented a car it was a lot cheaper than riding in a taxi and a bus are confusing. I would love to go back to Cabo but next time I will be staying in down in Cabo. I have been to Mexico three times and I would say it is very nice and I hope next time I will have a better experience.

There are two buildings...a new one and old one. If you stay at the new one your trip will probably be ok. Stay at the old one and you are in for a disappointing time. The rooms are old, dark and not kept up (I'd say ditto to RugbyCouple's comments). They are not well maintained (outside or inside). They stairs have chips in it, one which made my daughter fall. The elevator only worked to the 4th floor (we were on the 5th). I didn't find the front desk people very personable. The pool was nice and relaxing and it was a nice beach to walk on (though not swim). We ate one meal at the hotel restaurant and it was lukewarm and not very good! We cooked most of our meals from goods bought at the MegaMart down the street and that was some of our best meals! Overall make sure when you book that you are in the new building...the website is misleading as there is no mention of the old building, it only has pictures of the new one. We ended up having a nice week in Cabo...but we made it that way.....the hotel and their staff definitely didn't!

We did an exchange into this relatively small resort property and were very pleased. We were asigned a very large 2 bdrm/3 bath top floor ocean front unit with patio for our family (3 adults and a 17, 14, 4, and 2 yo.. Each day we came back to find our unit exceptionally clean. I thought the furnishings were very upscale for Mexico-lots of marble with stainless kitchen appliances. We used the safe for passports etc, but coins and other itmes left out were always there. The bedspread was folded differently every day. The grounds were beautifully manicured, leading to the great long stretch of soft sand beach. Just about every staff member we encountered was very friendly. Lots of smiles, especially Sylvia at the front desk..
On the negative side: As usual, restaurant/bar majorly overpriced-why do they have to do that.-except the captive audience theory. Maybe if just a couple the cost is ok, but with our group, we ate just once on site-the first night we got in, but that was it. The food was very good. There are a few large grocery stores nearby if you have a car. Tuesday night is 2 for 1 at the Dominoes right next door-and they do deliver to the front desk. You could walk the road or beach to the next resorts to check out their restaurant prices. The dvd player would not accept the dvd's we brought from the US. Desk advised we go to blockbuster as they had no rental/loan program on site. No games/puzzles/cards etc. to borrow either. There were some used books/magazines avail at the towel cart. No health/excercise/sauna/steam facilities as advised. No activity area-nothing for teens to do. I would like to see the resort turn their time share sales rooms (2)into a game/card room in the evening as a place to gather socially for young and old. No floats or water toys to borrow so bring your own. The only pool is smallish and shallow which is great for the little ones, but not for bigger people, except to just float or stand around with your drink. No room for water volley ball etc. I would recommend this resort to anyone who just wants to kick back and relax without a lot of action. And remember, Cabo is just 20 minutes down the road with more action than anyone can handle, and then return to this peaceful, heavenly place..

We stayed at the Playa del Sol Los Cabos from May 17th through May 24th through an exchange with Interval International. What an amazing and beautiful resort. We stayed in room 1407 which has 2 bedrooms and three bathrooms and is literally right on the beach. This room is nicer than any other hotel room that I have stayed in and has reconfirmed why we own a timeshare. The beds are firm but comfortable and the chairs on the balcony are NOT comfortable but the view can’t be beat.

We loved being able to go to the Mega (a Wal Mart type of store) and get groceries. They have a little bit of everything. This is a great way to keep costs lower and the room has a full kitchen so there is plenty of space for food and alcohol.

We took the bus into Cabo San Lucas several times throughout the week and enjoyed the nightlife and shopping. Cabo Wabo is a great place for partying and the Zoo bar had a nice mix of music. Cabo is touristier and has the pan handlers and timeshare vultures to deal with, but just say no and walk on by.

If you are looking for an authentic experience of Mexico and not the tourist/party life, go into downtown San Jose. We received a recommendation for Las Guacamayas restaurant. This was our favorite meal of the trip. This place was an authentic old time restaurant that had amazing food. The chicken fajitas were probably almost two pounds worth of meat and the hand made flour tortillas were fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed the margaritas too. San Jose offers other nice restaurants like La Panga (expensive seafood) and La Dolce (home made Italian).

Upon arrival and check in we met with the concierge who asked us to attend the timeshare presentation for the resort. For doing so were given a 15% discount card for Playa del Sol and an Elite card that allowed for various discounts in San Jose and Cabo San Lucas. If you have ever sat through one of these, or more than one as is my case, you know what it is like. We agreed to do it for the discounts and because Cathy (the concierge) seemed nice and it was her job to sign people up. We met with Ashta for our presentation that was great. We told her from the very beginning that we were not buying and she was gracious enough to expedite our presentation including the breakfast knowing that we were not buying. She provided the recommendation for Guacamayas and other places that we would never have known about. She was great. The worst part of the timeshare presentation experience was when her boss (Caesar) came over to make the final pitch. He asked if he showed us a great price if we would consider buying and we all said NO. He told Ashta to get us back on vacation and as he was walking away he muttered, “Don’t go on one of these again.” For a professional trying to sell something this was the rudest encounter I think I have ever had. I understand he has a job to do but leaving us with this as a last impression was not good. If you are interested in a timeshare this a great place, and if you meet with Ashta she is the BEST. However if Caesar meets with you I would ask for someone else.

  • Liked — The room was spacious, clean, and had an AMAZING view.
  • Disliked — Beds were a little too firm and the balcony chairs were NOT comfortable.
