As a wedding gift, a family member provided us with their timeshare for a week at the Villa Del Arco. We read just about every review on tripadvisor.com before our visit and had mixed emotions on what to expect about Cabo and the hotels/resorts. However, Cabo is beautiful and the resort is amazing and very well maintained....well, we did have to wait one hour for our room to be cleaned when we arrived, but we didn't let it bother us. Rosella, the concierge, gave us free drinks as we ate at the local bar, which so happens to be a pirate ship in the middle of the pool. It allowed us to unwind from our flight and take in the sights.
THE SWEET: The room was definitely 4-star and well-appointed. The view from our room was fantastic and considering how the resort was built, every room would have an ocean and pool view. What we liked best is that the resort comprises of 3 nice hotels that offers entertainment, a swim-able beach, grocery store, deli, movie rental, restaurants, spa/gym and water sports - technically, you never have to leave the campus. We only encountered the timeshare folks about 10 times though out our stay...not bad compared some of the stories we've read. TIP - On the beach by the ME and Pueblo Bonito, they were giving away $300 cash to timeshare candidates, but we opted not to participate after going thru a 3 hour pitch at our hotel...we had given enough of our time for the perks we received (free liquor, free boat ride, free para-sailing, and discounted spa treatment). The food, the atmosphere and staff were awesome at the two restaurants at Del Arco (La Perla and EL Faro). The "wine guy" - Jose, was the absolute best. We ran into him on a trolley between resorts and he recommended a few places to check out in town and even gave us a wine tasting when we visited La Perla's that evening...thanks Jose!
THE BITTER: When we arrived, we found the water was very choppy with strong tides due to a recent storm and that made it difficult to swim, so we spent a good deal of time at the pool. Also, my husband and I both got sea-sick when para-sailing due to the rough waters. Speaking of sick - upon high recommendations of several locals and even Jose (Sorry Jose, you're still the man!)...we went into town to try Marisco Mazatlan. The food was as tasty as everyone said it would be. However, my husband caught a very bad case of food poisoning that landed him in the hospital our last couple of days in Cabo, cutting short our planned activities....(disclaimer - we narrowed it down to this restaurant, but cannot confirm 100%).
All-in-all, we had a fabulous time and we definitely return again to this resort. Hopefully our review is helpful.
