We stayed at the Villa Del Arco for 7 nights in late April 2008 in their one bedroom. The room itself was located on the west side of the resort, facing a retention basin/wash. If I stood on the balcony, I could see the ocean so it was considered an ocean view room.
The resort itself is beautiful. The pool is amazing and Jacuzzis are located all over the property. It sits right on the beach and not too far from town. There are three restaurants: a contemporary seafood restaurant called La Perla, a sushi restaurant called El Faro, and a casual pool restaurant called the Buccaneer. The Buccaneer is located on a large ship that sits in the lower end of the pool. If you are not on a meal plan, which we weren’t, the food and drink bill gets very expensive very quick. We ate at all the restaurants but we didn’t think the price was worth La Perla or El Faro. We did eat a bit of snacks at the Buccaneer. We also tried restaurants at the sister resorts of Estancia and Pallmar. The steak and seafood restaurant at Estancia was by far the best, but again extremely expensive.
Other options for food are everywhere. We found a great little place down the beach called Mangos. They have half priced drinks all day and a cheap $9pp Mexican buffet. Also, I highly recommend getting a gold card by sitting through the Del Arco timeshare presentation. It saves 15% on food, drink, marketplace items, etc.
The timeshare presentation is the usual 90 minutes. It took us about 2 hours total for the presentation and the additional check out. The timeshare people for Del Arco get you when you first check in. We found the timeshare presentation is negotiable for what you can receive when complete it. For example, we received money towards the shuttle back to the airport when we checked out, 2 excursions for half price, and the precious gold card. Again, I highly recommend sitting through it for the benefit.
Here are a few additional thoughts:
1) Our room faced the wash where they have drag racing every Saturday night. It starts about 11 pm and kept us up until daybreak.
2) There are many rooms facing the pool and the ocean itself. I recommend a room overlooking the pool. The pool never seemed really loud and those are the best views of the ocean.
3) The pipes make a lot of noise. As it happened, our neighbor upstairs used the restroom every morning at 2 am which was extremely noisy.
4) You can request a taxi to town at the front of the resort. The cost to the center of town (by the mall) is $7 each way for up to 4 people.
Overall, we felt the resort was a typical yet beautiful timeshare resort. Our biggest challenge was the expense of the food and drink as well as the location of our room.
