I stayed at the Hacienda del Mar for 3 days/2 nights at the beginning of June 2006. I had a suite with 2 queen beds (extremely comfortable with very nice pillows and linens), 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies (one that was very large where I could sun bathe), a kitchen, living room and in-room-jacuzzi. I paid $553 USD per night, and it was worth every penny. The property is extremely beautiful with many fountains, and they take excellent care of the landscape. The pools all overlook the ocean, and the resort is located on a private beach. I loved that you could take a long stroll on the beach without all these other hotels around.
The service was excellent. I ordered room service twice, and both times, I received very speedy service. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and very courteous. The concierge also went out of their way to arrange for my transportation to the airport. While I was snapping pictures on my camera of the beautiful property on several occassions, the bell desk staff quickly offered to take pictures so I could be in the photos. I didn't have a single negative experience there.
Here are some of my other experiences there with the spa and restaurants:
Spa:
I had a 50 minute deep tissue massage. If your treatment is after 5 p.m., they take 20% off. The spa stays open until 11 p.m., and there is nothing better than having a spa treatment then having a few cocktails and heading to bed! The masseuse was very good...one of the best massages I've ever had. The spa is clean and very quiet.
Totamoes Restaurant:
This is a casual restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I went there for dinner and lunch. The food is not poor but not excellent. It's a great place for casual, okay food. The cocktails are great here.
Pitahayas Restaurant:
This is the resort's signature restaurant, serving lots of seafood. The menu is pan-Asian and is pricey ($30 plus per entree). I had the blackened mahi-mahi with mango-papaya relsih, which was very good. My friend had the mahi-mahi with garlic butter, which she raved about. My other friend had the trio of lobster tail, salmon with wasabi butter and prawns. She also said it was excellent. So, the food is very good, but the cocktails are pretty bad. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri, and it looked and tasted like a 7-11 cherry slurpy with a dash of alchohol. My friends had a lemondrop and said it was very sour. Order the food and go to one of their other bars for drinks.
Business Center:
The young male who works there went out of his way to help me send an important email and didn't even want to charge me for internet use.
Helpful Hints:
* Don't forget to tell them about taking 20% off your spa treatment if your reservation is after 5 p.m. Go a little early and enjoy the steam room or sauna.
* Ask for a room away from the front of the hotel. It's a beautiful view overlooking the fountain, but not too far from that is a large area where loud humming noises come from. I think it's how they air condition the whole place...anyway, it's loud and hums all day, all night. You can barely hear it if you close your door, though. Ask for a room facing the beach, away from the front. They have better views anyway.
* Make your arrangements for transportation from the airport to hotel before you get there. It's $15 per person each way. My friends and I used TransCabo. It takes about 30-40 minutes in either direction. If the hotel concierge asks if you want to "share" a taxi, take it only if it suits your timing. I thought it would be cheaper to share, so I left the hotel 3.5 hours before my flight and ended up paying the same amount.
* As soon as you pass through the Mexican customs, take your bags and go straight to your taxi or shuttle. Otherwise, you're hounded by sales people trying to get you to buy timeshares. Same at the hotel...after you check in, go straight to your room, otherwise they direct you to a table where they try to act like they are showing you map of activities and the local area when all they are doing is trying to build up to selling you a timeshare.
