Before visiting we had read plenty of comments about expensive food, expensive drinks, etc., and my advice is, well, "get over it!"....We were very satisfied with our choice and will be returning again next year. May is a great time to go...avoid spring break mania earlier in the year and hurricane season in the summer months. Temps in the 90's and literally not a cloud in sight the entire time we were there! This is a very nice resort with immaculate grounds, uber-friendly and attentive staff, and numerous options for relaxation, swimming, eating and the like. We're in our early 40's and have two children, ages 3 and 6, and this place could not have been better for our needs and desires for a quick get-away vacation to Mexico. We've stayed at nice hotels in Cancun, Puerto V, Ixtapa, and other places in Cabo and this place is head and shoulders above them all. De Cortez restaurant is highly recommended for an easy and casual-to-dressed-up surf and turf dinner. Their sea bass and red snapper dishers were impeccable and their desserts were good as well. Even had a little jazz duo for some listening enjoyment to accompany the pounding surf literally yards from the outdoor patio. Tomatoes restaurant is an easy stop for breakfast, lunch or a casual dinnner although the food selection is average and overpriced. Would highly recommend the Mediterraneo (sp?) restaurant on the south west side of the development near the suites for a great dinner at a reasonable price. The staff there were easily the most accommodating and entertaining of all the restaurants and the food was outstanding at what seemed to be lower prices than the other restaurants, with the exception of Pitahayas. The views are incredible also as the restaurant is located on the fourth floor with views of the Sea of Cortez to the south and west. Check this place out - you will not be disappointed. We plan to come back next year at the same time.

My boyfriend and I just got back last night and felt compelled to review (or avoid work). We spent the last week at Hacienda and really enjoyed our stay. We were traveling with a tight budget so we were smart about how we spent it. We went to CCC the first day on the public bus and spent $ on booze and food staples since our unit had a great kitchen! We made breakfasts in the room, had cocktail hour everywhere (you can bring your own drinks everywhere public---beach, pool, grounds), enjoyed town as much as the resort. My advice is to take the hotel shuttle as it is $5 each way and runs every hour and a half. Taking the public bus is easy and cheap (but you have to walk from the highway, @ 3/4 mile). The taxis are $20 and perfect for a flexible schedule or late nighters (shuttle stops at 9:30 in town). The hotel is expensive for their services but the included aspects are thoughtful (great rooms, beds, appliances --even a juicer and a blender!!!!, large fresh pool and room towls each day, and pretty much amazing views from everywhere). The staff was friendly and accomodating. I got sick and they sent a nurse to examine me as well as comp'ed our breakfast the next day.
I highly suggest eating in town as the food was great! Walk around a bit and try avoiding the obvious restaurants on the marina. There are great restaurants across the way from the mall (where the shuttle drops you off): Mariscos Mazatlan, the Hangout Cafe (if you craze pizza in their wood-burning oven), Crazy Lobster and all the others around there whose names escape me. You can get a great dinner with app's, drinks and 2 entrees for under $50.
We enjoyed the happy hour specials at the resort bars (strong drinks!) as well as some of the restaurants. You pay the premium for not having to leave (which could cost upwards of $40/rt) to eat dinner so factor that into the price and they won't seem as ridiculous. The sushi bar is some of the best I've had!
I hope this helps. I'd be happy to answer any questions that might help your visit. I'll add photos in a few days.

Great hotel – relaxing, nicely laid out, great pools, beautiful beach, NO timeshare pitches! Food is expensive, but my sense is that’s true at all the high-end resorts. Food in town at 3+ star restaurants is the same. As other reviewers have said, food in only mediocre here. One knock is how inconvenient they make it to play tennis. They have a relationship with the adjoining development, Cabo del Sol and four isolated courts at the entrance of the resort (not walkable and no water, telephone, etc.). Bacically, playing tennis here is a huge hassle. Also, definitely rent a car if you plan to leave the resort more than once or twice.

Quick Takes: San Jose is more enjoyable than San Lucas which is honky-tonk land – the modern mall and cruise ships ruin the town). Great art shops in San Jose (Habaneros). Best meal was at Los Adobes in Todos Santos (other than that not much; unspoiled Pacific was great ---- developers will be there soon!). Best bar/restaurant: Latitude 22+ (tough to find but fun). Whoever called Cabo “Mexico Light” hit it on the head.

The hotel design gets high marks. It is beautiful and tranquil. The service is mediocre. The restaurants are "just" okay, food being mediocre (even at the highly acclaimed Pitahaya's - which is overpriced for the food quality and service you will get). For dining at Edith's and other hotspots, it pays to book your reservations before you even get to Cabo. And even with a reservation, you can expect to stand around waiting for a table anyway (especially at Pitahaya's. They are the worst at keeping a commitment. Terrible management and hostess.)
The front desk is slow and understaffed. The concierge tried to be helpful, but had few contacts for those tough-to-get reservations. The rooms were nice and airy, though housekeeping was spotty at best. Towels would be missing until very late in the day, and turndown service was not always done. The web site said there was wireless in the rooms. It is actually wired in the rooms, wireless in the lobby and restaurants. The beach is beautiful though extremely dangerous. The waves are huge and the undertoes are treacherous. Children are often banned from the rocky waters. Overall we had a wonderful stay. The hotel was adaquate, though definitely not the best in the area. We were never bothered very much by the timeshare folk, though I have heard others complain about it. They can be aggressive.

Taxis run $25 to and from CSL for up to 4 people. It pays to rent a car since valet parking at the hotel is free. I don't know off hand the fare to San Jose, but since it is twice as far as CSL, it may be twice as expensive. There is plenty of free parking in CSL, and off the beaten track are fabulous restaurants with prices half that of the hotels and the "in" spots. It pays to walk around a bit and learn the downtown area.

We just returned from a 4 day night stay at Hacienda Del Mar. The hotel itself is beautiful, the grounds are well kept, and it is right on the beach, with a golf course that was a stone’s throw from our room. Upon our arrival at the hotel we ordered 2 double pina coladas to celebrate, the bill was $34. We have traveled all over Mexico, and these prices are outrageous! Our room was beautiful (Jacuzzi tub…Wahoo!), and we were pleased that there were two small bottled waters at the sink….but unfortunately these are the ONLY two you get during your stay, so if it is water you want, then you must buy the ‘in room wet bar’ Evian for $8 a bottle or buy a small bottle at Tomatoes (the restaurant) for $4….I spent almost $60 in water during our stay. To visit the oh-so-small gym you will pay $12 per day…which I did, but it would’ve better to take a run on the beach to work off those tortilla chips. To play it smart/safe, get a map of the hotel and a schedule of the happy hours (2 for 1 drinks). Since each bar has a different happy hour, you can go from bar to bar all day long, this saved us a small fortune. Plus, we were able to see the entire resort, and get a change of scenery every couple of hours. We especially enjoyed the pool with the swim up bar, because it was out of the way and not crowded. Admittedly, we rented the floating mattresses (They ask $15 per day, but will take $10)…It made it fun/cool to work on our tan while floating around the pool. The beach is beautiful and the moment your toes touch the sand there will be a nice man (the only employee that actually smiles) from the hotel that will set you up with chairs and umbrellas (don’t forget to tip him)…next thing you know there is a waiter to take your drink/food orders…our iced bucket-o-beer rarely was low…and we were sure to fill it up during happy hour. If you have been to Mexico before, and you are only visiting Cabo for a few days, skip the shopping and the tours…if you have seen one Mexican shopping center, done one dolphin swim, you have seen/done them all. We went into town one night to go to Squid Row and to dinner…and wished we would have just stayed at the resort. The moral of my story...hit the happy hours, bring your own water, pay cash for drinks/food, run on the beach, stay at the resort….And last but not least, HAVE FUN!!!
