Stayed at the Sheraton July 2-9 with husband and two teenage daughters. Read Tripadvisor reviews of Cabo and this hotel extensively before we left and I'm very grateful for the good and honest advice that was given. I was apprehensive about the food/water in Mexico-have never been-and I was wrong to worry. Yes, be cautious, but all the restuarants we ate in at the hotel or in town were just fine. We did not drink the tap water in our room, although it was probably fine. We each ate two Pepto-Bismol tablets every morning and we ate and drank with no problems. First, beware of timeshare stalkers-they are everywhere and very annoying. We already own a timeshare and exchanged for Cabo. We were still bothered at the car rental, the airport and even the Sheraton after checking in-that was the most annoying! Payless car rental was a good choice and make sure you pay the extra for zero liability and go enjoy your vacation with peace of mind. The driving down there in my advice is crazy, so if you are in an accident the insurance will be a godsend. Since we had a full kitchen we shopped at Costco for the staples and were very happy we did. Breakfast at Tomatoes for 4 people came to $104.00! We always splurge and eat every meal out when on vacation-but as I had read in the reviews-the food is very expensive here. We did eat at DeCortez in the hotel one night and it was fantastic. Pricey-but very good, and just so you know-not for small kids. Other great food stops were The Office, and on the marina, Ole Ole and the Baja Cantina. Ole Ole I thought had better food, but all were fun and reasonably priced. Downtown Cabo was not what I had expected, not too much shopping, all the same things over and over. If you like to drink-downtown Cabo is the place to be. As far as the Sheraton goes-it was probably the prettiest property I've ever seen, and I've been around. Service was wonderful, the villa had great beds and the dollar was accepted everywhere we went. If you want dollars back, just say so, or you'll get pesos. We tipped extensively because the service deserved it, and we had no problems with any hotel employee. The beach is not for swimming, but just as nice to walk or relax on. You will have to deal with the local vendors when on any beach in Cabo. No gracias once or twice usually did the trick. There are good buys, hair braiding, jewelry, so check out what the people have to offer before saying no. The pools were practically all our own in the afternoon, rent some floats and take advantage. Check out the swim up bar pool behind the hotel-very empty and very relaxing. I noticed, at least when we were there, very few children. Never heard alot of screaming and kids running all over and I have to say, I loved it. My kids are older and I liked the adult atmosphere there. We had other family members staying at the Villa Del Palmar down the road and that place was hopping night and day-kids and young adults alike. The Sheraton seemed like an oasis after coming back from the Palmar. All in all, the Sheraton was great-pricey-but knew that going in. I almost cancelled this trip because of some bad reviews and I am so glad I didn't. Go and expierence it-it's worth it.
