My two children and I visited the lovely Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar for a long weekend in January, 2005. Our first impression was how beautiful the property was. There were flowers blooming everywhere and the sky was a brilliant blue. We arrived at about 1:00 in the afternoon and our room wasn't quite ready so we had lunch at the poolside restaurant, which also overlooks the ocean. With the gentle breeze and the 80 degree weather, it was perfect.

That pretty much set the tone for the rest of our trip. The pools were absolutely beautiful and we spent most of our time hanging out there. The one we hung out at was directly below Tomates restaurant and there were a lot of families with kids there. We did find that you had to get out pretty early to reserve a good chair by the pool, but once you settled into your "spot" it was great. The poolside service was excellent and we ate lunch there most days. We also loved the jacuzzi that overlooked the ocean. What an amazing view.

I agree with all before who said the food was pricey. I don't mind paying that much for dinner but for lunch it was a bit over the top. However, we were on vacation and had planned to splurge, so what the heck. Since I had my 9 and 13 year old with me, I wish I had thought ahead and brought some peanut butter, jelly & a loaf a bread. They were getting tired of eating nachos and chicken strips every day (very limited children's menu poolside and at Tomates). We didn't bother with the other restaurants at the hotel, so I can't comment on those, but we did venture into town and had two great meals.

The first was at Mi Casa. This is authentic Mexican food at it's best. The place is so crammed with tables that it couldn't pass a fire inspection in the U.S., but it kind of added to the atmosphere. The mariachis were wonderful, and the food was great. The next night we went (based on all the reviews here recommending it) to The Office. The experience of sitting at a table with your toes in the sand was so fun. They even provide you with one of those Mexican blankets to wrap yourself in in case you get chilly. The food was good, but the entertainment was better. We happened to go on a Sunday night so it was "party" night (they do this on Sundays and Tuesdays only). They had entertainment on their stage and it was fun for me AND the kids. The only annoying part was the droves of vendors who swarmed our table. However, if you said no they did leave you alone.

All in all it was a great trip. If I had any complaints it was that the hotel had kind of a musty smell to it, and our particular room smelled like bug spray (didn't someone mention this in an earlier review?) But that was not enough to spoil our fabulous vacation. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

uWe just returned from a wonderful stay at the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar and can't wait to go back next year! After studying Trip Advisor for hours, we sent our son and his new bride here last spring for their honeymoon. They came home raving about how beautiful it was, so we decided we had to try it out for ourselves. They were right! The property is beautiful and very well manicured. The rooms are spacious, very clean, the mattresses are probably the best I've ever slept on in any hotel. The view out our window was breathtaking! The staff was very friendly and helpful. the reports were right about the food - it's pricey. But it's delicious! We ate at Girasoles every morning - all you can eat for $12.99. Our favorite spot for dinner was down on the beach at the Cortez. Excellent! As far as price goes, it's about as expensive as you would expect to pay at any nice restaurant - approx. $95.00 for two people. We enjoyed the solitude of the resort and we were glad that we didn't end up staying right in town. The pools are beautiful - there's plenty of room and the beach is one of the prettiest I've seen - and we have traveled ALOT over the years. This was a very pleasant surprise for me, I've never been too excited about Mexico - but we'll be making this trip each winter for a great getaway. Enjoy!

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton for five days over the New Year's holiday. I have been to Cabo dozens of times and I wanted to stay at this property due to the great reviews.

I can truly say this was a terrible vacation. Our first room had a non-functioning toilet. We called maintenance 5 times over the course of a day, without anyone ever showing up. Our in room safe did not open, so once again we called for assistance. We waited a day before someone came to open it.

The noise level at this hotel is outrageous. It's not for couples who are looking to sleep in and relax. Every night we would be awoken with slamming doors, other guests talking at normal levels, and sounds of running toilets. On the first morning we laid in bed and could literally hear the maid sweeping the floor of the room above us.

On the morning of the second day, we demanded to switch rooms. We were moved to a room in the main building, which had a better view. This room was fine until I tried to use the blow dryer, which didn't work. Once again, called down and waited 36 hrs before it was repaired. On the morning we were departing, the hotel had no running water. So, we were unable to brush our teeth, flush the toilet, or take showers. The front desk apologized and suggested we shower at the spa. Of course, when we arrived at the spa, they were also affected and had no running water.

Getting two chairs together at the pool was extremely difficult. We arrived at the pool each day between 11 and 12pm and nearly all the chairs were "saved" by the other early bird guests and their towels/books/hats.

The food was terrible. We ate at two of the three restaurants and were very disappointed with each meal. The prices are very high, but we were willing to pay them if only the food was acceptable. My husband and I joked that this was the first vacation where we actually "dieted" and lost weight.

If I hadn't prepaid for this vacation, we would have switched immediately to another hotel. We paid $350 a night for a below average room.

My husband did meet with the general manager who apologized for all the mishaps on our stay. He granted us 20% our food bill. He also made my husband sign a document stating that we would not try to receive any other compensation from the Starwood resort after we checked out. It really was not nearly enough compensation for the $2000 we spent on the accomodations.

I was truly shocked because this hotel got rave reviews by other guests. But my experience was truly horrible and I would not recommend staying at this property. There are so many wonderful hotels in Cabo. My advice is to find a different place to spend your vacation.

We go to Cabo once a year and found this resort is upscale from where we have stayed before. We did not eat at the restaraunts because of price, However, heard all were good.
Pleanty of room at the pools and beach. They actually have a policy to pick up unsupervised towels off of 'protected' lounge chairs. So you can sleep in.
The 2 bedroom unit we stayed in was brand new with sweeping views of the light house and ocean. We spent a few mornings watching the whales from our balcony and some evenings cathing the sunsets.
Would recommend a rental car for dinner, excursions, etc. I would go back to this resort. Enjoy!

After weeks of pouring through reviews here on tripadvisor, we finally decided to go to the Sheraton (Jan 1-9) -- mostly because of our Starwood points and its location. I was a little disapointed, but I think I might have set my sights too high. Anyway, the good: very friendly staff, jacuzzi tub, nice grounds, great architecture, 2 for 1 happy hour by the pool, the pools themselves, the beach, very comfortable bed. The bad: room was a little dirty the first day, not a great view despite paying for a deluxe oceanview, breakfast was way too expensive (though good), and it was a little more family-oriented when we were looking for romantic. Its not a bad hotel at all, but not really what we were looking for, I suppose.

Some general tips -
If you can, you should definitely rent a car - it was wellll worth it, esp since the hotel is in the Corridor, not downtown;
If you can deal with sitting through an hour's worth of timeshare presentation, I think its worth it - we got $100 off dinner at Pitahayas and discounts on all the water sports and activities in town, which we took much advantage of!
La Casa Del Dorado is an AMAZING Mexican restaurant in town. Great service, and unbelievable food. Go for breakfast or dinner - you won't regret it.
If you want to do a sunset cruise or snorkeling, I recommend Encore (service in town) -- the crew is sooooo nice, they give you a great tour, and the food and beverage service (free drinks and meals) is really great. If you go, tell Elvis Catia says hi!
Finally, if you want good whale watching, go with Cabo Expeditions on a zodiac boat - they get you right up to the action and are very knowledgeable.
