Just returned from a terrific time in Los Cabos and the Sheraton.
Concur with others view of the beauty setting of this resort. The private and beautiful(yes it is swimmable some of the time)beach protects you from the deluge of vendors at Medano, or near San Jose.
Medano is rapidly turing into PV/Cancun overcrowding effect. Jr. suite was roomy, comfortable, kitchen a real bonus. The food here IS overpriced, we made our own breakfast/lunches. The best restaurant deals, and in our opinion, best restuarants are in San Jose--Tropicana and Tulip Tree stand out here. A car is great for trips to towns, don't miss Todos Santos, and neraby beaches-Santa Maria/Chileno. We did the time share, got $150 for on-site resturants, bottle Kalua, blanket, discount for activites-worth it?? I guess. If you have a car and want to save on food and eating, first stop should be Costco (outside Cabo), then the Mercado on the main drive intown -with parking! just past Squid Roe. Even tho this is Mexico Lite, it still is Mexico and standards and efficiency may not be the same as 5 star American equivalents-if that does not suit you--go to Hawaii!

Our review is a little late, but we went here in September 02 for our honeymoon. This place was beautiful, great service, wonderful food. The resort restaurants were a little pricey but very convenient. We went to the city Cabo San Lucas with the shuttle and spent time downtown to shop and check out the beaches and different restaurants. We visit a few other resorts and we were so happy we selected the Hacienda Del Mar, the golf courses are unique and beautiful. We were were extremely impressed with the gardens and landscaping at the Hacienda. We plan to visit often in the future!!

First of all, yes, this hotel is expensive to stay at. This was our second stay at this hotel, and after reading the reviews on this site I decided to keep mental notes about the place to pass on. First, the staff here was almost unanimously very friendly and helpful. Pool service was quick and the waiters were nice. Rooms are kept spotlessly clean, as are the grounds of the hotel. As for the hotel and the grounds, they are beautiful. Everywhere you look you find something architecturally or botanically appealing. The pools are great, MOST of the restaurants are good, and downtown Cabo is 10 minutes away. Things to consider: You are asked on your arrival to attend a "welcome" session. Here they tell you about area activities, hotel highlights, and transportation options. Beware, this all leads up to a time share pitch. If you tell them right off the bat, in no uncertain terms, that you aren't interested, they usually leave you alone. Unless you truly are interested in buying a timeshare here (or anywhere), avoid this trap. It isn't worth the free breakfast or cheap fishing. Taxi to Cabo is $20.00 one way. We thought we were smart and rented a car on our arrival, but after paying full coverage for insurance, and the weekly rental price we figured it probably would have been cheaper to use the taxis. Food at Tomatoes restaurant is good. Breakfast buffet is $25.00 Do yourself a favor and order from the menu, it's cheaper. Snack bar at pool has good food. The Pitahayas restaurant is touted as the best in Cabo. Two words: Overrated and Overpriced. One hundred thirty dollars for a California wine you might pay $40.00 for in U.S. Food is marginal. Believe me here, avoid this restaurant. Mixed drinks at pool are 7-8 dollars, beers $5.00. Look, Cabo is expensive, and when it's all said and done, Mexico is still Mexico and you might get iffy service or an occasional bad meal, or have your room cleaned late. If you've got the money to burn, can relax and enjoy the fun times Cabo has to offer, then the Sheraton is a great place to stay. We will definately return. If you want Disneyworld, go there, and avoid Mexico.
It's a whole different feel down there.

Of all the hotels we have stayed at over the years(which is quite a few), this is our favorite. And we're picky about hotels. The location is great -- situated in the corridor between Los Cabos and Cabo San Lucas (15 minute shuttle ride). The staff is extremely friendly, and service is very good. We had an ocean view room (ocean fronts were all gone) which worried me at first, but we still had a great view of the ocean and the golf course next door. Nice size rooms, huge bathroom with separate jacuzzi tub and shower. The only negative about the room, is that since the floors are all tile, you can hear people walking around above you, but we got used to it right away. Lounging by the pool is great. They have 2 for 1 drink-of-the-day specials every day, with happy hour from 11-12. We could see whales jumping out of the water from our chair by the pool. The pool bar also had a lunch buffet every day that was excellent (fajitas, shrimp, fresh guacamole, etc.) or you can order off the menu. Breakfast buffet was great (a little steep $20) with authentic mexican dishes, smoothie bar, and made-to-order omlettes. They DO offer time shares at this resort, and when you arrive they will ask if you'd like to have a presentation and a tour. You don't have to do it, but if you do, they will give you some free stuff. We got $100 to spend at hotel restaurants (De Cortez and Pityhayas are very good, DeCortez is better), and discounts (of like 40%) on excursions. So we did it. It's like 1 hr., and if you aren't interested, they don't pressure you too much. Make sure you do the ATV tour if you go. It's alot of fun. We hated to leave. We WILL be going back, which seems common -- many people we met there go yearly (or more) and have been to that hotel 4 or 5 times.

Just got back from the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Resort and Spa. Stayed from Sat, 2/14 Wed, 2/18. Actually ended up extending my trip an extra day because I was having such a great time I didn't want to leave.I can't say enough good things about this hotel. The rooms are nice and comfortablevery clean. The beds are just what they call them heavenly! The grounds are beautiful and immaculate. The pool area is amazingabsolutely great. Every hotel should have one of those infinity pools! The beach was nice as well, although I always sat out by the pool. The only complaint I would have is that food and drinks are a bit overpriced at the hotel. But that is usually the case at any hotel. Everything was delicious just too expensive. Frozen drinks at the pool will run you about US$8 (you must try the Miami Vice ? Pina Colada and ? Strawberry Daquiri). Bottled water is about US$7. Food at the pool bar (Tortugas) was also a bit pricey but very good. Go for the french fries they're the best! I highly recommend the breakfast buffet at Tomatoes Restaurant with made to order omelettes anything you want for approx. US$20. If you enjoy a good breakfast trust me it's worth the $20. My friends and I also liked having breakfast at Girasoles de la Hacienda it's on the top floor of one of the buildings with spectacular views. I think they also serve lunch. Meals are a little cheaper here than at Tomatoes. Friends of mine ate dinner at the new steakhouse restaurant which is near one end of the pool area. They weren't very happy with the food there and the concierge really pushes this place saying it's one of the only 5 star restaurants in all of Los Cabos. I wouldn't waste your time here. Instead have dinner one night at the other end of the pool area under a big open hut at Pitahayas Restaurant. The atmosphere is lovely candlelit tables, live music. The food here was phenomenal but again, very expensive. Try the baby back ribs for an appetizer and the petite filet mignon and lobster tail for the entr?e.If you're looking for more affordable meals take a taxi cab into town for only US$5 each way. I highly recommend Pancho's restaurant (great guacomole) and Mi Casa.I can't comment much on the nightlife my friends and I are in our late 20's. We went to Cabo Wabo and El Squid Roe after hearing they were the places to go at night. We were amused by both places the average age group was 50 and over! Very entertaining though. Maybe we were just there during peak tourist season.Everyone in the entire Los Cabos area is so friendly. You don't ever feel unsafe walking the streets or anything. The staff at the hotel were all very nice too. Only thing is there is a woman in the lobby who really tries to push you into going to a breakfast where you find out info on the Sheraton's time share options. Stay away from her unless you're interested in buying. She's very pushy.Oh and be sure to go over your bill carefully at check out. There was a mini bar charge on my bill and I never once took anything from the minibar. They took it right off when I told them. Also any phone calls you make from your room there is a $4 connection fee. And you can't call 800 #'s from the hotel at all which was frustrating when trying to make calls with a calling card. We ended up charging calls to our credit cards at $13 for 5 minutes.Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar and I can't wait to go back someday. My friends and I are still talking about our trip.
