The hotel was definitely not up to our standards or expectations. We ended up leaving as soon as possible and going back to the Westin due to the condition of the Sheraton. We had stayed at the Westin Regina Los Cabos 4 years ago and thought the Hacienda del Mar would be equal in quality since both are Starwood hotels. It appeared and sounded very nice on the website, and we thought we'd try something different. We used Starwood points for the first night of our stay. Therefore, our reservation was booked as two separate stays, 1 night, and then 6 nights. Upon our arrivial, we were told that there were no King beds available beyond our first night, and that we would have to move to a queen room after the first night. Of course after a heated exchange, we were told that a King room could be located. Why is it that a guest has to complain to get something that was confirmed via expedia and starwood reps and a sheraton rep during three separate phone calls prior to our arrival? For one thing, we paid extra to have an ocean front room. The room was actually pool-front, and ground level. In order to enjoy the view, which is why we paid extra for an ocean front room, we needed to leave the blinds to our room open, which we had hoped to be able to do. However, if we left the blinds open, the people at the pool could see right into our room. Additionally, there was a sidewalk running between our terrace and the pool, so all the pool towel carts and hotel staff walking by could look directly into the room. Therefore, we needed to leave the blinds closed while in the room, which defeats the purpose of the oceanfront room. Furthermore, all the noise from the pool and carts could be heard in our room, even with the door closed. To make matters worse, the walls were paper thin and we could clearly hear the conversations of the guests in the next room, and every time a toilet was flushed above or beside us, we could hear that as well. When we called the front desk to complain, the staffmember spoke to the hotel manager, and we were told we could move to a King bed on the second floor, but not until Friday, so basically we would have to accept the conditions for two days of our week long vacation and then go through the hassle of repacking and locking up our belongings so the hotel staff could move everything. The problem of the pool view would be resolved by swithching to the second floor, but that balcony looked out over a large poolside restaurant, with the ocean beyond. What a scam calling these rooms ocean front and charging extra money for them! The rooms on the 4th floor of the main building had to have better views than these so-called ocean front rooms. We decided that the view would change with the room switch, but the problem of the thin walls and noise would not. Knowing that, we elected to check in to the Westin as soon as we could and cancel the remainder or our stay at the Sheraton. During our two days and nights at the Sheraton, we had drinks at the pool bar and they were terrible. You would think that for a $9 drink you would be able to taste the slightest hint of alcohol, but that was not the case. The drinks were watered down and the bartender was rude. The poolside wait-staff was non-existent. We watched while the guests next to us ordered drinks, and then had to wait for over 45 minutes for the server to return to them with the wrong order! We elected to get up and go to the bar ourselves to get our overpriced watery drinks and some nachos (which we should not have to do). We carried our drinks and food back to our loungechairs, and three hours later when we got up to go back to the room, our empty plates and glasses were still sitting where we left them on the concrete. No one ever came to see if we needed anything else or to clean up. The level of service at the pool bar and restaurant was pathetic. The one bright spot of our stay was our dinner at Pitahaya's Restaurant. While the food and wine were expensive, the quality was very good and the views from the restaurant were outstanding. We would return to this restaurant for a good dinner and to enjoy the superior view, but we definitely will not stay at the Hacienda del Mar again, nor would we recommend to our friends and family.
