We stayed at the Pacifica Holistic the week of August 6th and loved it. Contrary to some reviews posted here, we didn't find the food and drinks to be that overpriced. We live in SoCal and found the Pacifica prices to be on par with what we spend locally. Anyway, the days of cheap Mexico are long over.
Let us start by stating that we used Greyline for round trip hotel/aeropuerto transportation (booked this through Pacifica's website). It was the right choice: very timely, great service, friendly driver and greeter, and, the best part, we were offered our choice of cold water, soda or cerveza before the bags were even in the van. Ahh, we love Mexico.
Upon arriving at the Pacifica we were immedialtely impressed. Security at the hotel is tight, unlike most other hotels in Cabo. The hotel representative at the front gate had to make sure our names were in his list before allowing us onto the property. The lobby of the Pacifica is amazing: beautifully designed and decorated (minimalistic - zen) with the most fantastic lavendar aroma throughout. After completing some typical paperwork at the frontdesk, we were directed over to the timeshare desk. This is where you either decline the invitation to the timeshare presentation or you make a reservation. Although we had absolutely no intention of purchasing a timeshare, we decided to go to the breakfast/presentation so that we could see what the Sunset resort was all about. Besides, why would we refuse a $200 food credit, $100 spa credit and a bottle of tequila? The breakfast/presentation was the next morning. It was a no pressure deal and our salesperson was pleasant enough. As this trip was our first time in Cabo we felt that it was a little odd to consider purchasing a timeshare in a place we've never been before and, as of that point, had no time to explore. They make you book the presentation the moring after you arrive, which gives you no time to decide whether or not you even like the place. We figured that they do this because they are afraid another timeshare company might get to you first. Anyway, we collected out gifts, left the hustle and bussle of the Sunset, and took a free cab ride back to paradise.
Our room was great. We had a suite on the fifth floor overlooking the beach. The greatest thing about the suite is the double balcony. The room was very clean, well decorated, adequalty lighted, and the much needed AC worked quite well. And our housekeeper, Alicia, did a great job every day.
The food at the Pacifica was very good. We had read all the great reviews on the tempura fish tacos that are served poolside and, after indulging on at least six orders of them throughout the week, can now officially report that they are everything one could hope for in a fish taco. They really are awesome! The other meal I really, really, really enjoyed was the banana french toast at Siempre. Absolutely fantastic. One evening we went over to the Sunset for dinner. We ate at the Bistro. It was noisy like a cafeteria, however, the food was good. I had the Acapulco-style sea bass, which was pretty good. My wife had the Volcano sushi roll, which was fantastic. We also shared the calamari, which was quite good. The best part of the meal, however, was the peanut butter creme brule. It was fantasmic! Back at the Pacifica, within Siempre, is a sushi bar. We ate there one night with some new friends and we all enjoyed it. The sushi was maybe an 8 or 9 on a 1-10 scale, but the presentation was a 15.
The Pacifica was so great we didn't want to leave. We only left one other time besides the short trips to the Sunset. We went into town one night to visit Cabo Wabo just so that we could say we've been there. It was really fun. We danced for a couple of hours to the house band who did an exceptional job covering such classic rock bands as Journey, AC/DC, etc.
Let's see, what else? We chillaxed a ton pool-side. The pools are beautiful: beach entries, infinity edges, and heated to a perfect warmth. The jacuzzi was perfect too: not too hot and not ultra-chlorinated like some resorts. We sat around the pool every day and had a great time. Gabriella, one of the food/drink servers at the pool, was very sweet. Nothing bad could be said about the service at this resort.
The beach was nice and the ocean looked fantastic, but, as others have written, swimming was not possible. The surf would pound neck-breakingly onto the sand. This happens because there's a shelf a few feet out where the sandy bottom drops off immediatlely. However, from what we were told, this makes for fantastic whale watching in the winter months because the whales can come in really close to shore.
The spa: we did the Temazcal treatment. For $130 USD per person, you get baked at 425 degrees for about two hours. A shaman conducts a ceremony that is really something to experience. My wife liked it a lot; I felt a little claustophobic. Nevertheless, it was a good experience.
What else? The sunsets were beautiful. The Pacifica's grounds were beautiful. All employees were very accomodating. And we met some really great people, including one couple which we will definately see again back home.
We will definately visit the Pacifica Holistc Spa and Retreat again. Hopefully it will be soon.
