We just returned from a week stay at the Pacifica. Our trip was amazing and we had the best time. I am truly shocked to see some of the recent posts of bad experiences that others had. We had the most memorable, relaxing experience ever. Going to the Pacifica you should know what to expect, it is a tranquil, relaxing, spa-like experience. And, yes there is spa music (lightly) playing throughout the pool area; however, it is very low and relaxing. I couldn't believe someone complained about this in an earlier post. Many of the restaurants at the resort and in Cabo are expensive. If you know this ahead of time, then you shouldn't be complaining on this website. The deli at the hotel and the poolside dining are pretty reasonably priced and offer great food. There are also restaurants at sister properties that offer great food for a range of prices.
We spent a considerable amount of money, but I am not here complaining about it. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and we did everything and ate everywhere we wanted to. Because we choose upscale dining and dining in the resorts we also did not get sick. You can easily go to Cabo and eat in town or in other restaurants, but you might have a chance of getting sick as others did. We went to Ediths and found the food to be great; not the friendliest service, but great food. La Nao next door at the Sunset also had great food and special even nights. There are Mexican, Asian, and Italian nights with large buffets and made-to-order stations. They will make you fresh pasta with your own selections on Italian night. The buffet (including made-to-order station and unlimited desserts) was $30.00 per person. However, you save about $25.00 in cabs by eating at the Sunset. The shuttle takes you for free. Going to town will cost you $12-$15 each way.
The staff at the Pacifica and the Pueblo Bonito resorts were beyond friendly, helpful, and willing to go above and beyond. We too were located on a ground floor and changed to a higher room the next day, no problem. My only complaint (and it is so minor I debated putting it on) was that it did take the maids quite a while to clean rooms and to come for turndown. Often our room wasn't cleaned until 4 or 5 o'clock and then turndown didn't occur until 9pm. This may be why some people had to wait for their rooms upon arrival. The hotel grounds and rooms were cleaned thoroughly though. I constantly saw staff tidying up the pool area, restrooms, and sweeping floors.
As far as the shuttle service is concerned, we found this to be helpful and worthwhile. The Sunset Beach property is right next door and shuttles run every half an hour. We went here often for dinner and to catch the shuttle to the Rose (in town). I had no complaints with the shuttle service. It easily saved us over $100 or more in cabs. As long as you find out shuttle times and plan accordingly, you shouldn't ever have to wait more than 5-10 minutes for the shuttle.
On the timeshare note, contrary to what others said, we were not even bothered by staff about the presentations. They did ask us upon arrival. However, we were not interested in paying any money up front and asked for other arrangements. As soon as they wouldn't deal any better with us, they never asked again. Intersting enough, we went back a second time to ask them to give us a better deal and more spa credits and they said no! We were a little dissapointed because we were willing to sit through the presentation for the $200 spending money. Oh well, we had more time at the pool and towards our vacation. I would not even worry about them bothering you at all... they were friendly and not a problem.
The conceirge at the Pacifica is more than friendly and willing to assist you. We arrainged brunch and many dinners of which we were not dissapointed. I suggest doing a whale watching excursion or sunset cruise. The larger boats are really nice and give you unlimited drinks and lunch or dinner. Conceirge can also arrange this for you. This was definitely a fun and memorable experience.
As I mentioned earlier, if you know what to expect at the Pacifica, you should have no complaints. I found the atmosphere to be extremely calming and relaxing. Definitely a great getaway from busy everyday life. I would stay here again and would look forward to it.
