My husband and I just returned from a 3 day stay at the Pacifica. Perhaps because of all the glowing reviews we had read, we were expecting a truly excellent hotel. We were disappointed by and large. Here's why.
The time share push is the biggest drawback. I speak fluent Spanish and told them politely that we were not interested. They did not take no for an answer and seemed to consider our refusal to even entertain the possibility, a challenge to make us change our minds. We were approached at Siempre, their dinner spot, on the way in and on the way out twice plus, the same gentleman even came over to our dinner table to engage in small talk.
When we first arrived too early for check-in around noon, we were made to wait nearly four hours for our room. Guess nobody had ever heard of a "stat clean" for guests who invariably arrive before 4 p.m. check-in time. We had the feeling that their extreme slowness in getting a room ready was only due to our refusal to do the time-share talk. A two hour wait would have been more reasonable. Some of the staff we found almost haughty but most were very kind and attentive.
The hotel is lovely, no doubt about it- simple and spare with beautiful landscaping. It bills itself as a quiet place to relax, but we both found the nearly constant "ethereal" and to us, funereal-sounding music drifting about to be maddening. We could not even sit out on our balcony to read in peace at 6:30 a.m. without the high-pitched, long-droning notes of their music assaulting our ears. One morning at breakfast the music was so mournful, I felt like I was attending a wake and the waiters were glum and sad-faced! Music has a huge effect on one's mood. Whatever happened to just plain silence...? The surf is the perfect sound to melt your cares away and cannot be improved upon.
Now to their food. Siempre is overpriced and nearly tasteless. Breakfast is a joke compared to their sister hotel next door, The Sunset. You can enjoy a terrific, generous breakfast there and I recommend you do so rather than frittering away your money at Siempre. Dinners were expensive and very mediocre. The food by the pool was not only better, but also more reasonably priced as well.
I would not visit this hotel again. The beach is lovely, but then, nearly all of the beaches in Cabo are. I will instead patronize hotels that leave the hard-sell on time shares out of it and who see to it that their guests have the relaxation they deserve.
