I have stayed at many 5 star resorts including the ritz in Maui, and this was on par. If you can deal with a few soft sales pitches to tour the time shares (which I did and was well worth it for all the free coupons and activities like massages you get for going, plus the timeshares are breathtaking), this place is great. It is 5 minutes from downtown so you need a rental car, but if you are looking for the most beautiful place at a reasonable place in Cabo go here, it is a loss leader for their time shares so you are getting it for basically below cost. The place looks nothing like a time share - to give you an idea, i found out that it cost them several million us dollars to just put in the roadway to the resort paying mexican day laborers - you do the math. stay here and you will love it. one word of caution - if you like to swim in the ocean in front of your hotel as your main activity do not stay here since it faces the rough pacific ocean. they have a beautiful beach but it can be windy. i prefer to be at the pool overlooking the ocean so it was perfect for me. (every hotel room views the ocean). If you go ask the concierge for help booking acitivities - there are some great ones from ATV in the desert and beach to the best which was the party sailboat cruise we took - free drinks and cruising the sunset on a an awesome sail boat with dance music - it was really fun.

  • Liked — brand new and beautiful
  • Disliked — windy spot of pacific ocean so beach can be chilly
  • Tips/Secrets: — if you are a pool person, like luxury, and dont mind driving to town, stay here and look at the ocean at your feet

After reading through all of the reviews on this site, I canceled our reservations at the Westin and booked 4 nights at the Pacifica. I was glad I made this decision since Westin is much further out and away from town than Pacifica. This was our first trip to Mexico. There are tons of people waiting to "greet" you at the airport but we didn't have any problem as we walked right by without stopping.

I was pleasantly surprised to see so much security from the minute you enter the Pueblo campus. From the minute you walk in, you're instantly relaxed by the lavendar smell and the zen like setting. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help. I knew all about the "welcome package" aka timeshare presentation from reading the comments on the site. We received 2 free drink coupons each upon arrival as part of our welcome package. We decided to go for it since they give you $200 in food/beverage credit, discounted tours, and a $50 spa credit. It took us less than 90 minutes from the time we entered so it was well worth it. Once you tell them you don't have any intentions of purchasing, it goes by fast! Since we were celebrating our 6th anniversary, a nicely decorated plate of chocolates awaited us in our room.

We had lunch at the sky pool over at Sunset beach and it was very reasonable and the views were awsome! We ate dinner at La Nao at the Sunset and once again food was very good. They serve Mexican coffee tableside - some of the best coffe I've ever had! The Bistro over at Sunset was so-so. We did a couple's message at the Pacifica spa and it was excellent!

We did rent a car since we always like to explore. Although the hotel seems very secluded it wasn't too far from town. We usually went to the Marina or downtown in the evenings. Dinner at The Office was a great experience! Don't miss the glass bottom tours to the arch and lover's beach. We ate lunch at Margaritaville which was overpriced ($70 for 2 people and 2 drinks) and the food was not good. El Squid Row is a fun place to grab a drink after dinner. We also went on a sunset cruise and a 2.5 hour ATV tour which was a blast! Overall it was the best vacation we've taken thus far.

Bottom line, don't stay at the Pacifica if you're looking for a lot of action, people watching, etc. (Medano beach is the place for you) but if you want to be away from the action and go to the action when/if you want, this is definately the place! If we return to Cabo, we would definately stay at the Pacifica once again.

Let me preface my comments by saying that I travel extensively for business and pleasure, and my friends and co-workers call me a "travel and spa diva." So, take that into account as you read my comments.

The Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is a meticulously maintained and Zen-like property. The sheer design of it makes you relax the moment you walk in the front door and take a whiff of the lavender scent that is pumped throughout the resort.

Are the beds and linens spectatcular? No, in fact, I think the Westin Heavenly bed is much more comfortable. Is the spa great? It's great looking, but the massages I found to be mediocre. Is it expensive? It depends on what you compare it to. I normally stay at W Hotels, the Ritz, and St. Regis properties, and I found PBP to be much more afforable than these places.

We did not take the timeshare tour...which is called the "Hotel Tour." I heard it is a 3 hour time commitment--that is worth a few Pacificos at the swim-up bar and we weren't willing to sacrifice that.

And by the way... in case you are wondering why you cannot walk to the left side of the beach (facing the ocean) it is because the Owner of Pueblo Bonito Pacifica lives in that 29,000 square foot house that sits atop the rocks and that is his private beach. Don't buy the schtick from the security guard that you cannot walk on that side of the beach because of sea turtles!

All in all, this place is extremely well done. If they would upgrade the bed sheets and blanket, it would be a 5-star hotel in my book.

  • Liked — Zen-like amenities. It's off the beaten path and very secluded. Awesome security.

Beautifully landscaped resort. No kids allowed so there are lots of honeymooners. They try and sell you a time share at the sister resort next door but once you say no they leave you alone.
Expensive to eat at the hotel, good to eat by the pool during the day and venture out into Cabo at night.
Its quite a hike into town you will need a car or the hotel is happy to arrange a cab for you.
The water at this end of the coastline has strong undercurrents so you can walk along the beach but not go in the water.
We didnt care because the pools were so pretty.
If you want to relax during the day in very modern minimalistic yet beautful surroundings and are willing to venture out most nights for dinner / drinks this is perfect.
Spa treatments are OK, expensive but worth it to have a massage in a cabana on the beach.
They are very security concious, making notes of when you leave and when you return. Also if you sit out by the fire pits at midnight they will come and turf you out (does make you feel like you are 12 and have to go to bed!)

  • Liked — beautiful setting, modern rooms
  • Disliked — very quiet at night (we were off season)

We stayed at PB Pacifica when it first opened last year, we were there in September of 2005, November of 2005 and November of 2006! We stayed 6 days at Pacifica and 4 days at the One and Only Palmilla. We would definitely choose Pacifica over One and Only Palmilla! The staff is fantastic, as is the service. We love the relaxed setting, no children, very low key. We have always been able to walk along the ocean without getting stopped, in fact we always take a 2 hour trek beyond the point and climb over the rocks to a beautiful beach. You will only get stopped if they think you are going to go into the water, it is for your safety. We could see stingrays swimming up to the shore, pretty awesome! The prices are very reasonable for food and drink at Pacifica, considering everything is double at Palmilla. Every time we stay at another place we always fall back to how great everything is at Pacifica, it is our benchmark as to what we measure other places to. If you are going to venture to town often, do rent a car, we have had a few unpleasant taxi rides to and from town. Also if you get drinks from the deli down by the pool, they are half of what they charge for the mini bar, pretty reasonable prices! The gym at Pacifica is not the best so each day we would take the 10 minute hike(use it as a warm up) to Sunset and use their gym or take the spin class they have to offer. We have yet to find any other resort that measures up to Pacifica, even resorts that charge 4 times as much! We will be going back in November 2007 for sure!

  • Liked — The pool
  • Disliked — The gym but you can use the gym at Sunset
  • Tips/Secrets: — You will not be disappointed!
