First...the BAD. Let's get that out of the way.
When arriving at the airport in Los Cabos, don't stop, talk to, or even look at the guys in the 3rd room of the airport; the guys behind the orange desks. They will try to entice you in every way possible to get you to listen to them. They say stuff like "... that once you leave the room, you can't get back in..." (a lie) and that they are "...the only ones able to provide transportation..." to anywhere you might be going. I'm telling you...move through fast. And I mean fast. Don't stop! These guys are a total ripoff!
There are cabs (and plenty of them) waiting for you outside. There are buses and vans, as well, waiting to take you into town. The sharks behind the orange desks want your money. And, they promise to return every cent if you listen to their timeshare presentation (a false promise as I was informed of later).
In a word...these guys are "BAD" Stay away...you'll be sorry if you don't!
Now, the GOOD.
We just returned from the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica on Friday, May 5th. In a word, this place is beautiful. Very quiet, serene and peaceful. If this is what you seek, this is where you'll find it.
A short 10 minute taxi ride from town (or 45 minutes from the airport), Pacifica offers a perfect get-a-way. I, for one, was looking for a place where I could just relax and do things at my pace (as slow as I want). If I wanted something else; to fish, to shop, to sight-see, I was 10-15 minutes from that. I needed some R&R and Pacifica was just the ticket.
The rooms were kinda small, but, certainly adequate. The maid service was outstanding. The food was....well, on a 1-10, I'd give it a 7. The fancy restaurante (Siempre) wasn't really very good. I had the steak and lobster...lobster was a little mushy and the steak was quite small. Breakfast was a little better, warm syrup is good, but the pancakes were really heavy. Sweet breads were very good.
The poolside food bar (Aire) was much better. There you'll find hamburgers and tacos and nachos and shrimp cocktails. At least for us, it was a lot better then the other restaurants in the hotel.
If we wanted to eat fabulous food, we would have had to leave and go into town. Again, I wanted rest and relaxation. The last thing I wanted to do was get a cab every night and go into town.
The beach was great to look at, but don't go near the water. The shore break was pretty violent. And I mean violent in a good way. It was spactular to see 10-12 foot waves crash along the great expanse of beach. But it's, without a doubt, not a swimming beach. You can hear the waves pounding the shore throught the night. And, every day you can see the cruise ships as they move their way out of the Cabo area.
The area of the Pacifica is very windy. In fact, there's a wind-break on the north side of the property to try to minimize the wind. Ha!! The hallways really make for great wind tunnels. We stayed in the 1100 building. If you get a room in that building, don't spend a lot of time styling your hair before going out...it'a a waste of time. Once you get into the stairwells...forget about it! The wind was constant.
The pools are kept at a perfect tempature and are very refreshing. Poolside service is provided for food and drinks.
The UGLY.
Not much to say about this.
All in all, we thought is was a great place for a week-long visit. It was nice to get away from cell phones, email and work, in general. Like I said, it was perfect for what I was looking for.
