I just returned from 10 days at the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, and I have to say it was probably my favorite vacation ever. My husband and I have previously stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Rose on Medano Beach, which we enjoyed, but the Pacifica is a really special place. It is located not on Medano Beach on the Sea of Cortes, but on the Pacifica Ocean, so it is much quieter. The resort just opened in April, and was only about 50% full, plus no children under 16 are allowed, so it was very tranquil and relaxing, which was what we wanted. If you are looking for more of a party atmosphere, you should stay at one of the resorts on Medano Beach.

The grounds are really beautiful, with lovely water features everywhere, and the rooms are simply furnished but very nice, and very very clean. The two pools are fantastic, of the "infinity pool" variety, which is splendid. Plus, the resort has its own desalinization plant so the water in the pool is quite pure, and doesn't smell like chlorine. The main pool has a swim-up bar and food service, while the smaller pool is closer to the ocean. They were just putting the glass back in the windscreens (removed during hurricane season), and that cut down on the wind blowing in from the ocean. The air temperature is about 10 degrees cooler on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas than it is on the Sea of Cortes, which suited me very well, as I don't like it blazing hot. Due to the undertow it is dangerous to swim in the ocean at the Pacifica, but the pools are really great, and there is a hot pool, which was excellent at the end of the day. At night they light fires near the pool, and it was very pleasant to sit and watch the fires. And the sunsets were spectacular.

Our visit was greatly enhanced by Miguel, the Activities Director, who was very personable and charming, and provided entertainment in the form of activities such as water aerobics, towel folding, playing backgammon, blackjack, and poker, and even pumpkin carving for Halloween. We had a cooking class with Tomas, the delightful chef, and learned to cook a dish I can't spell, but was wonderful. We loved hanging out with Miguel.

The restaurant at Pacifica, Siempre, was very good but rather expensive. There is food available at the pool, although I don't recommend it (expensive and not that good. It was something like $15 for a burger). The Wine Bar had just started serving tapas from 1:00 until 5:00, and also had a nice lunch menu available until 6:00, which was a good alternative to Siempre.

The spa was closed during part of our visit, but it looked very nice, and they have a gym too. It seems you have to pay $15 a day to use the gym, unless you are getting a treatment at the spa. We did a Couples Massage at Sunset Beach, which we enjoyed.

Other people have mentioned in reviews the problem with the shuttles. It was a bit of a challenge getting downtown, which involved a shuttle from Pacifica to Sunset Beach; then waiting for a shuttle to Pueblo Bonito Rose on Medano Beach, which took almost 30 minutes as the bus was quite slow; then walking downtown, which took about 15 minutes. We found that walking from Sunset Beach to Pacifica was fine, as it is downhill and only about a half-mile or so, but the walk uphill was less festive in the heat. We also tried to walk from Sunset to Pacifica on the beach, but it can't be done, due to the rocks jutting out into the ocean. Also, there was music playing pretty much everywhere, which I could have done without, but I eventually got used to it.

No review would be complete without a word about the timeshare presentations. We did two of them, because we liked the free stuff they gave us, and we found the presentations to be interesting, but if you want to avoid them, you must be firm! We got a lot of cool stuff, like $150 worth of food coupons to be used at any of the Pueblo Bonito resorts; free taxi ride to and from the airport; a Mexican blanket (love those blankets!), etc. The salespeople are very persistent, and they lie about pretty much everything, so beware.

I would absolutely recommend the Pacifica to anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing vacation.

My husband and I just returned from 8 days at the Pacifica. What a beautiful resort. The service was terrific. We were originally given a room opposite the Seimpre restaurant. It appeared to be a perfect spot with a spectacular view. What we soon learned was that at night you couldn't sit on the balcony and enjoy the view and conversation due to the noise from the restaurant's roof top vents, and the noisy waterfall outside the resturant (not a soothing trickle, but a hard continual cascade). When advised of the problem the next day, the staff quickly relocated us to the opposite end of the resort, #1424, a perfect location.

We dined at the Sunset Resort a number of times where they had a better selection of restaurants. As said before the food @ Pacifica, Sunset & Rose can be pricy. $20.00usd poolside for a burger & iced tea, $30.00- $35.00usd for the buffet @ La Noa. That said we always had impecible service and excellent food.

We attended the timeshare talk and actually enjoyed the info we received. The properties we were shown were beautiful and the staff very nice. No high pressure.

The weather couldn't have been better, 84 degrees daily. All the pools were in perfect working order. The room service was excellent.

Pros: the staff was exceptional, well informed and attentive to every need; facility was beautiful, spotless. Loved the fire pits by the seawall.
Cons: transportation from Pacifica to town (needs to be more convenient); restaurant selection at Pacifica(need more); 24/7 Enya-type music playing seemed to be a bit much for those who would want some peace and quiet.

I was really skeptical about staying at the Pacifica before the trip. My relatives have a timeshare at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset and had run out of space for everyone in our group to stay together. So they booked a few of us at the Pacifica.

There is an hourly shuttle that runs between the two resorts. You could walk between the two places but it is a super hilly desert 30 minute hike. Wear good shoes and take water!

Anyway, the Pacifica has a beautiful walk in pool, no small children are permitted and a very peaceful atmosphere. I had a spa treatment that surpassed any others I've had. I found that I didn't really want to leave the Pacifica because of the less crowded conditions. Honestly, it was almost dead at times. We went out and sat in the jacuzzi that's just a stone's throw from the ocean and had it all to ourselves many times.

We had the best meal (expensive, but worth it) at the Siempre. One night we went into town and ate at Casa Mia. The food and service was good there.

It just depends on what you're expectations are. If you're looking for party action, you have to take a taxi and go to town (15 minute ride). Same deal if you want to go snorkeling, parasailing, etc.

Our trip was cut short by tropical storm Otis. The hotel staff kept us up to date on developments of the storm.

One thing I missed having was a coffee / tea service in the room. There is a small -- really small refrigerator.

The staff at the Pacifica are wonderful and strive to make sure you're taken care of. Adrian, for one, was attentive, helpful and dependable.

Oh, here's some advice if you decide to go for the time share presentation at the Sunset. If you're not in the least interested, do yourself a favor and tell the salesperson up front. We got some good freebies just for showing up and letting them give us the presentation.

We recently traveled to the Pueblo Bonita Pacifica for a one-week stay in the middle of October. Living in New York City and having stayed in many of the world's top resorts, we were accustomed to staying in very nice resorts with top-notch service. Pueblo Bonito Pacifica delivered on most fronts but failed, miserably, when it came to customer service.

Rooms: The rooms were well appointed, clean, brand new and every room offers views of the ocean, which is beautiful. Every room also offers a balcony. The water pressure was a little low, which sounds minor but was actually a big deal given how large the shower was (it would have been nice to use all of the shower and not have to be pressed against one wall). The televisions were a little dated, which is to say they were not flat screen, plasma.

Lobby: Stunning lobby, which made for a pleasant entrance every time we came and went.

Restaurants and food: The food at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica was fantastic. Siempre is the nicest restaurant on the property and probably the nicest restaurant we ate at in Cabo. Certainly much nicer than all of the offerings in downtown Cabo. I would particularly recommend the scallops and the bread is amazing. Stay away from the tuna and the grouper as both were a tad fishy. The poolside offerings were also surprisingly good. On several days, we opted to stay by the pool and eat lunch, both for the environment and the food. I would recommend trying the chicken burrito and stay far, far away from the ceviche, which tasted like it was created with refrigerated, jarred salsa.

Spa(s): We used the spas at both PB Pacifica and PB Sunset Beach (the sister resort next door, see below). Both spas were wonderful and I received the best massage of my life at the PB Pacifica Spa. It was the hot stone massage, and this comes from someone well versed in massages.

Location: PB Pacifica and PB Sunset Beach are not close to downtown, as the other two Pueblo Bonito properties are. They are about a 10 minute drive. We had a car, so this wasn't a huge deal, but if you were to rely on the shuttle service, I imagine it would be annoying and impractical. If you were to rely on cabs, I imagine it would become expensive. The distance from downtown was both good and bad. It was good b/c it provided for a quieter, more idyllic setting. It was bad b/c it meant that we were situated on beaches that are not swimmable. You don't appreciate being able to swim at the beach until you are told you cannot. It may not seem like a big deal but no one (NO ONE) used the chairs or laid out on the beach. Luckily the pools are beautiful.

Pools and Grounds: Both of these are stunning, well manicured and probably the best feature of the Pacifica. Much (MUCH) better than the pools and grounds of the other Pacifica resorts.

Customer Service/Timeshare Factor: This is where the resort failed miserably. PB Pacifica is the crown jewel of the Pueblo Bonito family. It is a hotel built to lure people to the PB family, where they will try to sell you a time share. To be fair, you are free to decline the time share sell and I believe that little pressure would be applied after that. But, they make it very hard to say no given the discounts they offer. The actual presentation took place on the morning after we arrived. It was low pressure, could have been as short as two hours (we asked tons of questions and strongly considered buying) and was generally not that bad. The problem was with the incentives they offered to us in order to get us to agree to listen the presentation. The incentives - $150 credit at the restaurants and $200 credit at the spas (for $100 down) - were very difficult to redeem and we consistently received different information from different people as to how to redeem such credit. At checkout, we found that not all of the spa discounts were received and the mentally challenged manager refused to listen to reason regarding how that had happened. As it turns out, we should have held all of the coupons/credits/certificates until the end and had those credited to the bill. We were told we could not do that but saw several people doing exactly that without the least bit of trouble. All of that said, there were several days that the room was not cleaned before late afternoon and multiple requests (towels, catch and release a huge moth) went totally unanswered. In my mind, it is unacceptable to not fulfill a request or at least follow up.

Finally, I would like to add the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is, hands down, the best Pueblo Bonito property. Honestly, it's not even close. They are all in the same price range and had we stayed at any of the other properties, I would have been very disappointed. I would say this resort is nice and worth the cost. However, be wary of the incentives offered to you and make your life easier by retaining all coupons/certificates until you check out despite what they tell you. They will honor them at the end: I saw it happen multiple times.

if you've stayed in other, much more expensive los cabos properties with more stars to their credit as we have, you may find yourself comparing the pueblo bonito pacifica spa and holistic retreat to your previous experiences, and that can be a good thing. this spectacularly-sited resort looks very much like some of the more over-the-top lavish spots on the los cabos corridor, with all of the incredible stonework, water features, desert landscaping and facilities, but this place has a few nice twists and surprises i'll leave for you to discover. we spent 5 days here while house hunting, and found the pacifica to be a welcoming retreat from the outside world.

we found the staff here to be probably the most charming on the peninsula, which adds a great deal to the ambiance of well-being. everyone here smiles, not in that strange disneyland way, but seemingly from the heart. being that this writing is in late september, when things are very quiet in los cabos due to the heat, there appears to be a ratio of about one staff member per guest, so no request of any kind took longer than a few minutes to fulfill.

the rooms are lovely and quite spare in furnishings, but luxurious overall. the public spaces have a high wow factor, and everywhere you go, there is a delightful and very subtle scent of something different (incense; herbs; ayurvedic oils) that makes you take note. trickling water and low, booming waves at a distance lull you to rest. and of course the pacific side sunset viewed from the beach is like no place else.

as with most beaches in the entire los cabos area, swimming is not allowed, and on this beach the huge waves and accompanying undertow make it even less a possibility. this beach is, however, perfection for long walks up shore toward the old lighthouse, and opportunities to come upon unexpected nature abound. during one walk, we even found several sea turtle tracks left from the overnight low tide.

the food here is good. the menu at siempre restaurant is a little odd in that it tends to have a lot of italian dishes listed, but the ceviches, cocteles de camarones, and a few other mexican items offered are quite good. if you enjoy mexican breakfast as i do, i believe you will like this restaurant a lot.

one small downfall is the soundtrack that plays throughout the property. i agree with one of the earlier posters who found it a little annoying, but this is a small issue. many of the speakers, both indoors and out, seem to be blown, so that any intention of peace derived from the mix of music played is lost to the scratchy quality of the sound. this could be easily fixed, and should be. another issue is the cabo-ubiquitous "hostess presentation" (read "time-share pitch") one must endure before being shown to your room. it is no reason not to visit here, and can be dismissed easily. but it is an unwelcome intrusion that is about 4 minutes of anything but "holistic".

overall, i'd say that if you're looking for someplace different to go, this might be it. we found it to be a very, very good spot, an excellent value for the money (watch the online travel sites for deals... they rock!), and would recommend this place highly to anyone who just wants to escape.
