We visited in early September and absolutely LOVED this hotel! Our friends were staying at the ME Cabo and they ended up coming over to swim at our pools practically our entire stay! We went a few days after Hurricane Jimena had passed over Cabo. You couldn't even tell there was a hurricane just two days ago. Not a cloud in the sky! The forecast for our week stay predicted scattered showers. It rained only once, really hard, for 10 minutes then it was clear skies. From speaking to the locals, it looks like that's typical for Cabo.
A few things to know before you go:
This hotel is pretty far set from Cabo San Lucas in the fact that you really can't walk anywhere. We rented a car our week there which was great because it saved us on spending $$ on taxi's to and from town. The shuttles the resort has are great to visit the sister hotels but run very infrequently. The car allowed us to go into town whenever we wanted and to visit other areas, like Todos Santos. Be aware: If you have never driven in Mexico BE CAREFUL. Not everyone abides by the rules of the road. The drive into town was about 10 minutes. It was great because we had the best of both worlds: Cabo nightlife when we wanted it and a relaxing escape to paradise on our return.
You cannot swim in the beach and I would not recommend it! The tide is ROUGH and there is a security guard stationed there every day and night (although we caught him sleeping in one of the beach beds one night when my boyfriend and I took a stroll on the beach to see the stars :) It's great for pictures and walking, but you can't walk in the surf nor really get near the water. Great for collecting shells. We even got to let some baby turtles make their way into the ocean! The hotel has some sort of turtle sanctuary and every time the eggs hatch they let them loose. We were lucky enough to share that one night! Great experience. You can visit Medano beach at the Rose or Los Cabos. It's totally different from Pacifica. We were always relaxed when we returned "home." You don't have to deal with vendors on the beach and you get the beach and hotel all to yourself. We visited every Pueblo Bonito: Rose, Los Cabos, Sunset. Pacifica was by far the best.
You HAVE to try La Frida at Sunset. It's pricey, but worth every penny. Also, try Mariscos Matzatlan. It's in town and recommended by the locals. We LOVED the food. Great and inexpensive. $50 for a whole lobster, two crabs, about 20 shrimp and fresh grilled fish to boot! It's their combo plate that my boyfriend and I shared and couldn't even finish! The Shrimp Factory is also great, by Tesoro Los Cabos. A little pricier, but still amazing. Avoid the tourists traps like Lorenzillos and Mi Casa. Have breakfast at the Marina. Great plates and cheap prices!
Overall, enjoyed Cabo San Lucas and can't wait to go back! Lover's Beach is a must but bring towels, sunscreen, water, because there is nothing out there but you and the snorkelers. I was weary about picking Pacifica because of it's distance and it didn't have a swimmable beach. But, I'm glad we did! The service was impeccable and it is SUPER clean. They bust their butts cleaning every day and night. Tip well and get great service. Have fun! Pick Pacifica!
