We stayed at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica from Oct 26-31, 2008. We had a free 5 night certificate to stay here which we obtained when we purchased a cruise last February.

The hotel and grounds:
The design of the resort is very contemporary which we liked. It is fairly new (I believe it opened in 2005) and is kept is pretty good condition. We witnessed many staff members cleaning and grooming the grounds throughout our stay and overall the property is beautifully kept and in a gorgeous setting at the bottom of a mountain right on the Pacific.

Our room:
The room was decent sized... not too small or unecessarily large. The only problems we experienced were one light bulb was burned out and the door to the room stuck occasionally when you tried to open it. The bathroom and shower are good sized and the overall contemporary design was pleasing to us. The balcony with ocean view is nice and the chairs provided are fairly comfortable. The bed was a pillowtop, so it was pretty comfy for a hotel bed but the pillows sucked.

The food & drink:
The food was pretty good. As stated by many other reviewers, the fish tacos at the pool bar are excellent. Probably the best meal we had the whole time we were there. The prices are too high for the quality of the food however, especially in the main restaurant Siempre. Think of it as 3-4 star food at 4-5 star prices. The isolated location allows them to charge too much for what you get.

The shuttles:
The free shuttles to the other Pueblo Bonito resorts are GREAT!!! We saved a ton on cab fare as we used them every day and were able to get into downtown and El Medano beach for free. It's nice to be able to go into town to party and come back to the peacefulness of the resort. Contrary to what some people have said, you can WALK up to Sunset Beach... its not that far even though the hill is quite steep. I have no doubt many people woudln't consider walking it but unless you have some serious physical disability, it's really not that big of a deal.

Timeshares:
I was REALLY worried about being hounded about this as many reviewers complained about this. However, we were never approached by anyone. I would like to say this is because we look under 30... but trust me... that's not the reason why!!!! So I have no idea why so many people seemed to have a problem with this.

Pool area:
The hotel was obviously not very full (I'd guess much less than half full) and there was always plenty of room and staff to take care of you. The water was great and I loved the swim up bar... a great place to esape the sun as it was very hot when we were there (mid 90s and fairly humid with little wind).

The Beach:
No you can't swim in the ocean there and that's fine with me. The waves were VERY impressive and the thunderous sound of them was very relaxing. It's nice to be the only person walking on that stretch of beach.

Overall:
I really liked the resort and the peacefulness of it. The no kids and no smoking thing are it's best attributes and I would probably not stay anywhere else that didn't also have these features. All staff were VERY friendly and we have no major complaints other than the overpriced food and drink. That said, since going rates at this hotel seem to be in the $250/night range I would not consider, even for a moment, going back if I had to pay that much. At most I would pay $150/night for this place.

Great adult only hotel. It was the cleanest hotel I have ever seen. It is a spa with hotel rooms. The pools were clean and the pool side chairs were extremely comfortable. The food was also great, but a little expensive. We got hit up for time share presentations 10 times a day. Before they give you your luggage they try and sign you up to view their other properties. The cabs to downtown were about $13. Book the shuttle to the hotel. You must do this at least 3 days in advance. We waited too long and ended up taking an airport shuttle bus ($17 pp). It took almost 2 hours and had to sit through a time share presentation on the bus! If we would have known how wonderful the hotel was, we would have spent the extra money and taken a cab ($80). The sea is rough so you are unable to go into the ocean. The overall experience was complete relaxation. The no kids policy made it a great atmosphere. We never go to the same city twice, but we will go back to Cabo because this hotel was wonderful.

I stayed at PB Pacifica Oct 8-12. I went by myself (female in her mid-30s) for some R&R. The hotel is immaculate, the decor is minimalist and soothing. I chose this hotel because it was adults only and no smoking and also based on the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. I was not disappointed. My room was on the 2nd floor. It was very nice - just as pictured on the website. The Fiji water in the room is $9, but you can go to the deli (called Galeria) and get bottled water for $4 for the large size. If you take the shuttle to PB Sunset Beach, they have a decent grocery store where a large bottled water is $3 (Arrowhead brand). Not bad at all considering it's a resort. When I dined at the restaurants, I didn't order water as they will give you the $9 Fiji water. I just had other drinks but went to the on-site store to get 'regular' bottled water.

The pool areas are just lovely and very peaceful. No music blaring, no kids playing. There were plenty of pool chairs to go around - mind you it's shoulder season so it's not full occupancy. The service at the pool was very attentive. I did order their famous shrimp tempura tacos which were so yummy!

I had read on another review that sunscreen at PB Pacifica is $160 USD. That is true, the gift shop by the lobby has only 1 kind of sunscreen (Natura Bisse brand from Spain) and it is indeed $160 US, not 160 pesos! That being said, go down to the deli and they have many kinds of sunscreens (Coppertone, Banana Boat) for $19 USD - still expensive but better than $160!!

I believe the water at the resort is treated but I didn't drink the tap water anyway. However, I brushed my teeth with tap water with no problems.

For dinner I went to the Bistro at PB Sunset - I thought the prices there were reasonable - $14 for grilled seabass, garlic shrimp with mexican rice and salad and bread. I went to Siempre at PB Pacifica every morning - I thought the prices were reasonable too - cheaper than Hawaii! For example, I had an omelette with whatever I wanted in it, hash browns, toast, black beans for $10.50. Coffee was around $3.00 but your cup was never empty - unlimited refills. Service was excellent. The second day I came for breakfast I was greeted at the door by my name.

I was asked several times if I would attend their 'breakfast presentation', but I politely declined as I didn't want to spend hours listening to a timeshare presentation, especially having heard that it's not 90 minutes as they advertise. It would have been nice to get the $200 resort credit but I really didn't want to spend my precious vacation time at a timeshare presentation and with no intention to buy.

I booked my transfer to the hotel from the airport online at the hotel's website - it was $17 and it took 45 mins. On my way back, the hotel only had a shuttle that left 4 hours prior to my flight so I made arrangements with Ixchel Transportation online. $26 USD and totally worth the extra 2 hours I got by the pool!

Overall I would highly recommend this resort for those seeking peace and relaxation. I'm glad there were no wedding parties while I was there though! I can't say it would be the same with a party going on. It is a $12 cab ride to town so if you're looking for nightlife this is not the place for you - better to stay at PB Rose or Blanco.

My husband & I traveled to PBP from the east coast for our 10 day Honeymoon. The resort was wonderful! Clean, friendly, and tranquil. We spent a lot of time down at the pool just relaxing. We warn travelers however, that Mexico in September is humid & buggy. I'm very afraid of bugs, all kinds, including the moths that flew around the exterior of our hotel room door. One phone call down stairs and staff came to remove the light bulb! Immediately! The service as this resort was wonderful. The bellboys are friendly and knowledgable...but hey, you don't have to compliment EVERY woman, EVERY time you see her. We get- we're beautiful. We thank you for the compliments.
My husband & I also took part in some of the activities such as salsa dancing and a wine & cheese class. Both are free which is nice. If you are a wine or dance snob, then don't go to these classes as they are for beginners. We also visited the spa on 2 seperate occasions. Both the massages (couple massage- awesome room!) and the body treatments were wonderful, although outrageously expensive. The expense of Cabo is probably our #1 complaint overall. The hotel was grossly expensive ($9 for a bottle of water?! $13 for a weak Margarita?! $45 for a sliver of steak that wasn't cooked correctly?!) as was the rest of the town. We were desperate for a moderate priced restaurant and came up empty handed, or very unsatisfied every time. The other problem we ran into, was just recently addressed by another reviewer. The Wedding crew from Ohio that crashed a peaceful weekend for many. PBP is a holistic ADULT only resort and so guests should act accordingly. If they do not act accordingly, then the hotel should take the appropriate action. The 4 days that this group was in town were the worst of our honeymoon. Loud at night, and throwing food in the pool during the day. We couldn't stay away from them long enough! Having just celebrated our wedding, we understand the happiness and desire to celebrate, however please do so at a resort that is not "holistic" by nature.
All in all, PBP is a luxury resort that will relax you into a wonderful vacation. We strongly recommend this resort for couples- honeymoon or other. While we don't know if we will return for certain, we do know that it will be a short trip for R&R if we do. Buena Suerte!

Ok - I have lots to share, so be prepared for a long review!
My husband and I just returned from an 8 day stay at the Pacifica (10.3 - 10.10) for our wedding anniversary. Maybe it's because we were so ready for some good ole' R&R - but this place, just fit the bill perfectly.
Everything was spot on from past reviews I had read - the time share sharks at the aiport, the 45 minute van ride from the airport to the hotel, the wonderful lavender smell of the lobby as you walked up (by the way, you can actually buy the spray that makes the lobby smell so good, down in their spa - it's pure lavender and comes in a large bottle with an extra spray nozzle attachment, for $37. They had a smaller bottle too - I think for $16.) - and the nice, cold, lavender infused towels that they handed to you. Yes, we were hustled straight from checking in, directly to the time share ladies - but we were prepared for this, and made sure we signed up for all the goodies we wanted, upfront.
Our room - even though I requested a higher floor - ended up on the first floor...which turned out to be just fine (from the front side it was floor one, and from the side that faces the beach, it was floor 2). We had a lovely view of the pool, Siempre (their restaurant), and the beach. The room was exactly as the pictures showed - so we were not disappointed.
We did sit through the "90" minute time share presentation the very next day - which ended up being 4.5 hours instead. This is held at their sister property the Sunset - which is only about an 8 minute van ride up the hill. We were very interested in what they had to offer - and went down on our trip, with that mindset. We held off until the very end - as the offers kept getting better, and we got exactly what we wanted, and what we were expecting to pay. We feel very good about this purchase, as the PB hotel chain is directly partnered with the Ritz Carlton - and their new resort is planned to go in, right next door to the Pacifica (which will have 2 Jack Nicklaus golf courses included).
The properties are very nice and well maintained - and the staff is very friendly and knowledgable. We did end up eating one day at the Sunset (The Bistro has a very good and cheap breakfast - $20 for the 2 of us) and staying out by their pool - however, the entire reason why we loved the Pacifica so much, was because it was not crowded, there was hardly any noise (no kids under 16 allowed), there is no smoking allowed, and it just had a more relaxed energy about it. The pool at the sunset (keep in mind, they have several - but we only managed to make it down to the one by the beach...I do hear they have an adults only - but we just didn't make it up there) was very crowded - and it took us about 10 minutes to find 2 open chairs together, but couldn't find ones with an umbrella. The lounge chairs at the Sunset are plain, hard chairs - and good luck trying to get more than one towel from the towel check out! However, down at the Pacifica - they have 2 pools, both with MANY open areas to sit, both with or without an umbrella. Their lounge chairs have very nice thick pads on them, and you can get as many towels as you'd like. So while we understand the Sunset is perfect for families - great atmosphere, no doubt about that - the Pacifica is wonderful to just relax and lay back.
We also took advantage of the spa at the Pacifica - twice. My husband had never had a massage before - so we opted to have the couples massage, on 2 different days. $300 for 80 minutes (which means $150 each, both getting 80 minutes). In my mind, that's a very fair price - but then again, I'm use to paying that, plus more - up here in Seattle. They do have a 10% tax charge, and a 12% service fee - which they ask you to pay up front...so I didn't tip anymore than that, until after my service. I ended up really liking both of my massages - so we gave each of our therapists an additional tip, which would equate to them getting the normal 20% (including the 12% service fee).
Cabo Town - we ended up not really being a fan of the main town itself. It's about a 10 minute van ride via taxi, for $12 - or you can wait for the free shuttle between the PB hotels. The town is a typical town in Mexico - full of people bartering, trying to sell you anything from these annoying plastic whistles to your basic pack of Chiclets gum. I think it's probably because I was not starting to feel well, that I was getting annoyed with people interupting our dinner, to try and sell us a rose in a plastic sleeve for $5. While I know they are all trying to make a living as best they can - I found that I appreciated the protected grounds of the Pacifica more and more (as they aren't allowed on the property).
For Cabo restaurants:
La Fonda - Excellent local cuisine, and by far, my favorite restaurant. Great service, amazing food. Highly recommend this restaurant. I think our bill came to about $120 (US), but we also had 2 drinks each, an appetizer, our main courses, and dessert.
Nick San - I love sushi - and being from the northwest, I also love seafood. I thought the fish quaility at Nick San was very good - however, what they had in quality was missed greatly in presentation. Just fish on rice on a plate. Don't get me wrong, I know you are just going to eat it - but I just expected a little something more, that's all. Prices were decent - as least comparible to what I pay at home - Fresh Salmon Sushi (2 rolls) were $6, and the Tuna and Hamachi were I think a dollar more. I think our total bill was around $70 (US).
Salvatores Italian - this place came highly recommended as where we should eat, for our anniversary. So we made reservations and off we went. I think maybe we were expecting to have some sort of view of the bay - but that's definitely not what you get. The restaurant is a small, quaint spot - located adjacent to a small and cheap hotel (more like motel - think the perfect spot for spring breakers). The hot tub for the hotel, is located right in the middle of the grounds for the restaurant - which is odd, but adds to the atmosphere. The staff was very friendly (ours was from Portland, OR.) - but they are very busy and hustle about. We were there on a Wednesday night, which is their lasagna night. I took the advice of past reviewers, and my husband and I shared one plate between the two of us - which I can tell you, was the best choice we could have made. The lasagna came out on a platter - and was enough to feed (no kidding) at least 4 grown adult men. It was huge!!!! Taste wise - it was decent...it wasn't spectacular, but it was decent. Overall, I think our bill was around $40 (US).
Siempre (at the Pacifica) - we ate at the hotel restaurant several times. We tried the sushi one night - which was ok. I had their filet on another occasion - which was pretty good, and I had their lobster raviolis on another night, which I didn't care for (more shrimp in the sauce, than anything, which I wasn't expecting). The little bar at the pool serves excellent fish tempura tacos with wonderful guac and salsa (just like other reviewers have said). They have a pretty decent BLT - with a tasty side green salad...and their prices are reasonable.
By the last few days of our trip - unfortunately, I came down with the most amazing back pain and a very high fever (103.6 degrees). After one very restless night, we called the front desk and discussed what our options were in regards to seeing a doctor. They immeadiately took care of everything, and had an English speaking doctor sent right to our suite. She was able to assess all of my symptoms and explained that I had a very severe kidney infection (and possibly an infection of my appendix). She wrote out a prescription for all of the medications needed - and took it straight to the concierge, for them to pick up and deliver straight back to our room. The fee for the doctor to come to my room was somewhere around $60 - and the medications came to a total of around $90 (for 3 different types). The staff was wonderful in taking care of every need - and they stayed the appropriate distance away, when not needed. For this service alone, I would give the Pacifica an A+.
By our last day, we were amongst the few rushing to get everything together, to get out of Cabo before any storm passed through due to Hurricane Norbert. The staff double checked our flights to ensure they were on schedule, and always had an update for the weather at all times.
Net / Net: I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. If you are looking for R & R, this is definitely the place to go. While we will be going back to Cabo more often now, due to the timeshare, we will always make sure to catch the shuttle down to the Pacifica to lay by their pool.

  • Liked — Peace and Quite!!!! Great staff, no children under 16, no smoking allowed! Loved the wind on the Pacific side of the peninsula - kept things nice and cool!
  • Disliked — You can't swim in the Ocean on this side - but you can lay by the pools or on the beach instead.
