Spent the first week of October at the resort and had a really relaxing and lovely stay.
The resort is beautiful, tranquil and clean. I particularly liked the location on sunset beach, nestled away from the busy and crowded streets of Cabo. A gentle and constant Pacific breeze enveloped the resort, cooling us off under the umbrella and keeping pesky flies away for the most part. The food at Aire was overall good and once we discovered the shrimp tempura tacos, we had it every day. Siempre was a bit of a let down. I’ve never been fond of fusion cooking, as I feel it is the kind of food that tries to cater to all tastes, but ends up tasting like “confusion”. A fresh, simple and elegant take on Baja cooking would have been more fitting for the spa resort.
The only let down was the in room dining, especially the breakfast service from 8-10am. This is the busiest time, and not once did the food arrive on time. At the most it was 1 hour delayed and the food (which had been cooked in advance) was cold and unappetizing. The resort was also half empty. They need to improve. The other thing worth mentioning is that it was humid during our stay and the room and everything in it (paperwork, clothes and sheets) had a damp feel to it. As a result the room had a faint smell of mildew; the pillows were particularly affected by this. I found the odour on my pillow so overpowering I had to cover it with a fresh towel every night. If you visit, choose to go in a drier month do avoid this.
Having said all that, the resort lives up to the four star status, and thus I give it top marks.

  • Liked — Gorgeous property and views, clean, great staff, beautiful spa

The Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is possibly one of the best hotels I have ever been to. Yes, it is a resort, but it is a quiet one, there is no noise, the staff is excellent and so is the food.

You have several restaurants, we tried them all and they were excellent. The Aire restauran is located behind the pool on the outside and serves very good casual food. Siempre restaurant is a little bit expensive but it is also very good, and so is the sushi bar. They have also a coffe shop that serves excellent espressos (not very easy to find in Mexico).

As I mentioned earlier, the satff was excellent and we were delighted with all the amusements.

Nevertheless, you can't swim on the beach, the hotel is located on the Pacific rim of the Baja peninsula and the waves are always taller than 2 m.

If you read nothing else, know that you can't swim in the ocean at this hotel, and they don't tell you until you get there. -- Overall we found this to be a very nice place to spend a week if you're looking for a peaceful time. We're 40ish with no kids, and this hit the spot. Service was very nice, but certainly not 5 star. For example, I had a hard time explaining how rainwater coming in through the ceiling of my shower was a bad thing in both the original and replacement rooms. To their credit, they gave us a suite for the rest of the trip at no extra cost after the second room sprang a leak. The spa was great, and the food was very good as well. The grounds were a bit overdone, but who cares when you're sitting next to that pool all day plowing though novels between naps. Two minor things. The music poolside is an attempt at new age, but falls wide of the mark in an annoying way (ipod to the rescue) and the flies, sometimes jumbo size, were everywhere when we were eating (no remedy for that). Not sure I would go back as I think there are other nice places to try if we return to the region. That said, I would recommend it, but not for a trip of a lifetime or honeymoon.

The hotel is just as most people have written about, it is very very clean and has a superb atmosphere that promotes its "holistic" name. I really can't do it justice by writing about it, take a look at the pictures that some people have posted to see what it looks like. It looks just like the pictures.

We checked in and were handed our free drink tickets but we skipped the validation part for fear of being caught up in a timeshare thing but we were tempted to the timeshare thing because there were people who were getting $150 dollar to $300 dollar credits to their food bill (I'll post an update if we do the timeshare thing but for now, we're opting against it). We went directly to our room which was on the 2nd floor and although it was small, its definitely high class. Hard concrete/stone floors, dark furniture and a soft but not too soft bed. They have free internet (i'm writing this from my hotel room) which is totally great. I brought my own cable so i'm not sure if they charge for it or not, i plugged in and it worked. The minibar is expensive but we went to town and brought back some water so that was no problem.

Service, the hotel and the food have been excellent so far. There are absolutely no drawbacks to this hotel except for the distance from the town which is remedied by a free shuttle that runs hourly from the neighboring hotel to their downtown property.

This hotel is definitely out of the way, but its worth it. In fact, i chose this place because the only complaints with this hotel from other posters seem to be isolated incidents. I don't think you can go wrong with this hotel. I asked my new wife what she didn't like and she said "nothing". I asked her what she liked and she said "its clean".

Some tips:
1) Don't forget to get a ticket from the concierge for the shuttle from the Sunset Beach to the Rose and back. By the way, the shuttle runs from Pacifica/SB every 1/2 hour starting 15 minutes after the hour and from SB/Rose every hour on the hour until 10pm. There are some extra shuttles in between but you can look at the sign when you get here.
2) We found out tonight that there are no refills on soft drinks at the outdoor cafe. The kobe burger kicks butt and their french fries are awesome (trans fat all the way)!!!

Oh ya, i almost forgot why i said "not for the adventurous or for excitement" in the title. My wife and i like to do stuff, but because this place is so out of the way, we felt kind of claustrophobic the first night and were kinda bored tonight (its the 2nd night right now and i'm writing this in my room because there isn't anything else to do). Because we were bored, we planned activities for the next 3 days/nights. I really wish we could visit the town and have a drink at the local bar or something and then be able to get back to my hotel in 5 minutes via cab but for whatever reason, it feels like once you come here or once you leave, you have to stay or leave for hours, otherwise its not worth the trip back and forth from town to the hotel. FYI, we only did the shuttle today but one of these days, i think we'll try a cab and see how long and how much that is.

Anyway, you can't go wrong w/ this hotel but its far away from town (15 to 20 minutes via shuttle).

First off I have to tell you all to watch that credit card. I'm not blaming anyone or anything but my husband and I ONLY used our visa at the this resort since we charged EVERYTHING to our room and never used our visa again.~paid cash everywhere else and the day after we checked out, someone got our credit card number and charged a lot of internet charges. Thank goodness visa's fraud department took care of us. BUT....BEWARE....other than that little hiccup, the resort was very zen..in a good way. If you're looking to just relax, read a book, never really see anyone, just looking to veg...then, I think, this is the perfect place. We got a bit stir crazy the first day since we weren't used to it being so quiet so we'd go on over to the Sunset for dinner, etc... and when we had our share of the families and timeshare stuff, we'd come back to our quiet little place. The rooms were a bit small and surprised no turn down service in the evening but overall was clean, good food and good service. The wine bar was way overpriced but who drinks wine in mexico anyway. We tried it anyway. Won't do that again but at least we tried. This was our first trip that we only went into to town once to watch football on Sunday . We usually stay in the corridor resorts, but this resort is much closer to town. I recommend just sucking it up and paying the $10 taxi ride or else your stuck taking the shuttle from this resort to the Sunset then to the blanco or rose and walking to town...probably about a 20 minute walk but in the humidity, you'd have wished you took the taxi. I also recommend Frida's at the Sunset next door for a fabulous dinner. The chicken mole is the best I've ever had.

Overall, our experience this trip was very relaxing. Since we're used to bigger resorts, this was a nice change just to relax and get away from it all, not having to worry about reserving a spot at the pool, crowds, etc...

  • Liked — very quiet and not a corporate feel
  • Disliked — no turn down service. It would be nice to come back from an evening to a picked up room
