I've read some of the reviews by people that stayed the same week (Feb 11th - 18th) as my wife and I, and honestly I don't understand what they expect from Mexico. My wife and I are well travelled through the carribean and europe and you have to expect some level of free enterprise by the Mexicans. Try walking down the street in Barcelona or Lisbon and you'll think Cabo San Lucas is Conneticut.
Hotel: The hotel is beautiful. It's relatively new, clean, and located 15mins by bus from town. We took the bus a couple time and had no problems. The service at the hotel was the best I've experienced in Mexico. We had management approach us twice during our stay to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. While at the hotel, I was never approached for a time share, this is amazing for Mexico. Our departure flight was running late and the hotel let us stay longer and have lunch and drinks. Most all-inclusives send you to the airport and make you wait there so you're not consuming their drinks and food. This was greatly appreciated!
Room: Our room was very clean and the stocked fridge with beer and water was great. The housekeeping staff are pleasant and will do anything you ask of them. The beds are a bit hard but not a big issue.
Food: The buffet food was ok, but the mexican and gourmet restaurants were better. Both my wife and I didn't get sick, but friends of ours and a couple we met at the resort did experience some difficulty. What I've observed is, those that get sick are the ones that drink the most, so my conclusion is it's not really the food.
Pool: They have to large HEATED pools that were very clean and not at all crowded.
Shopping: Don't be afraid to barter with the locals. Don't buy any silver from street vendors, stick with the shops in town. My wife was able to cut their price in half everytime she made a purchase.
Activities: Marlin fishing. The hotel arranged a full day excursion for my friend and I on a 28ft well equipped boat (Silverado Charters). This is not cheap but well worth it. The captain and first mate were very experienced and we caught 1 marlin weighing approximately 200lbs. The whales and dolphins we saw during the trip were an added bonus. If you've never done this, you must try it. The other couple that went with us did a sea kayaking excursion. If you like whales 50 feet from your kayak, you'll enjoy it as they did.
