Ok, I let a little time pass before I wrote my review. Our stay was from July 24, 2008 thru July 29, 2008.
First, the Riu Palace is a BEAUTIFUL place, and my family and I felt quite secure on the property. Upon our arrival, we were met with smiles, margaritas and Coronas. It was great, because our room was not quite ready. So, we sat and waited with a very pleasant and accomodating hostess... :-)
Our rooms were pretty good, considering I asked for an ocean view room, which turned out to be blocked by a palm tree. Minor, in comparison to how GREAT our vacation turned out. The in room bar and stocked refrigerator were FANTASTIC. Yeah, I tipped a little to everyone, but they were so appreciative and made sure we were stocked everyday! Clean sheets and towels everyday, a clean room, and NO PROBLEMS WITH THEFTS !
The working people at the "adult" pool were TREMENDOUS!! Props to Juan Karlo, Samer, and Sylvia!! Especially, for their patience in putting up with a another "buzzed" American. They were the PERFECT HOSTS !! Now, the ladies working in the on-site gift shops were a little rude. Especially, when asked for help and interrupting their on-going phone conversation. They actually seemed annoyed. I did not like them trying to give me Mexican currency in change for large bills. Especially, when they had American money and said they did not.... They could use some training in customer relations.
The food was pretty good, although the lunch got a little repetitious. But, hey, you can't get too tired of hamburgers, hotdogs, and fries. The other options did not appeal to my taste buds after the third day... Making the dinner reservations was a little strange, but not too annoying. The Japanese speciality restaurant was EXCELLENT !! Unfortunately, we did not get to try the other ones.
The taxi ride into town got a little expensive at $20 roundtrip each time; and, the ride back on a dark back road was a little uncomfortable. But, hey, it got us back safely. Speaking of downtown, you have got to try La Palapa. GREAT SEAFOOD and GUS IS THE PERFECT HOST. He is the owner/bartender/cook/waiter/entertainer, etc. :-) One had to really sit back and take in the "bar type" setting/ambiance with FIVE star food and five star presentation. IT WAS GREAT! A little pricey, but worth it !! All our excursions were booked through the American Express travel agent, and ALL were great !! Especially price wise. You have got to try the Ocean Riders Beach Hopping excursion. Well worth the price of $70 per person. Especially, with all that is included !! The TROPICAT Jazz and Wine Tour Cruise is another MUST DO!!
In short, THANK YOU ALL-INCLUSIVE.COM, RIU PALACE AND THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE OF CABO FOR A PERFECT VACATION!!
