Booked at the Riu Sante Fe for 5 nights, and paid to move to the palace after the first night. nothing wrong with the sante fe, just downscale overall from the palace.
The physical property is very lush at the palace, immaculately clean in spite of many spring breakers and what seemed to be well enough to do Los Angelenos drinking too much and behaving less than decorously overall. The view from the veranda bar and most guest rooms is truely oceanfront, and there is nothing better than watching sunset on los arcos with a well chilled martini in a proper martinin glass. The beach is wide and vast, and i walked into town, though it is a hike, and the sand seems deeper as you go. Much better sand quality than Puerto Vallarta, though the water is not swimmable. Upside is you can hear the waves crashing at night if you leave your screen porch open. 2 very large elegant pools frame the front of the buiding with infinity walls to the water and view. ample bar service brought to our deck chair. never ever had to worry about enough deck space. water was cold but at 2 pm when you are frying in the sun, what a releif! pool at the sante fe very large and lagoon like, more family style and there were a lot of birds overhead. the rooms were large mini suites. linens were crip and clean, towels thick and white, double sinks in the bathroom small living area and minibar refreshed dail. turndown service every night which was an unexpected treat. the buffet was plentiful, delicious, ver hot and felt much more refined than most other AI buffets. If people complain about variety, they shouldnt eat steak, shrimps, pork, chicken, and fish every night each night but have a seafod night, then a steak night etc, though the buffet themes their evenings. As i was without my wife I did not book a fine dining meal. Benito, my server was a true professional. He was prompt, friendl, genuine, inquisite witout being indiscreet and knew how to adapt to the different tables he served. He also geuniinely thanked me for choosing the Riu on my last night which is a service trainers dream, and seemed to come naturally.
the management should also know of a pool waiter at 1pm (quiet pool) who kicked off his shoes, dropped his tray and dove in the pool in full uniform to help a girl screamining for help as the water was too deep for her. dad looked on when he should have been the first one in. these two service persons will make me choose RIU again when I can. People realy make the difference. Happy to answer any questions if you are cabo bound, but remember bring dome dollars to thank your hotel people. I was shocked at how few tipped. A buck a drink, a few at breakfast and lunch and a five at dinner wouldnt cost any of us to much, right?
