My DH and I (early 30s) just returned from a 5-night stay at the Sheraton. I have mixed feelings regarding our stay, so I'll try my best to detail it out.

The pros....

The reviews are true - it's a gorgeous property! My DH, a former golf course superintendent, is very observant when it comes to landscaping. He was quite impressed. The groundkeepers were meticulous and obviously took pride in their work. The architects did a fine job in marrying the dessert landscape with greenery and the lushness of tropical plants.

The hotel is also beautiful from the courtyards to the villas to the pools. We had a great time staying in the main building - room 2001 (ocean view). It was very easy to go from room to restaurant to pool back to room. I can see how some of those who stay out in the outward villas would get tired of walking, but at least you have lots of pretty things to look at.

There are some amazing balconies at the Sheraton. While ours was decent (ocean view from the side), friends of ours stayed in an ocean front and were lucky enough to have a room directly above Tomatoes. Wow - it spanned both the side of the room and front, making it bigger than the room itself! If you get the chance, request that one. You won't be disappointed.

The ocean is dangerous. While we were there, two people got flipped and one sprained her ankle. So if you want to play in the water, this is not the resort for you. But if you don't mind hanging out in that breathtaking infinity edge pool of theirs, it more than makes up for it.

Overall, I would say the service was quite good. While no one went out of their way to please us (except the maid service, more on that in a minute), we never had to wait long for anything. The bartenders at all bars were pleasant, spoke English and humored our poor Spanish.

If you prefer to swim with your drinks, the main pool has servers to accommodate. Just flag one down with the cold towel they give you to cool off. :)

The servers at the restaurants were nice and always available. The maid service was pretty good. We got towel animals and double cleaning each day. After we spent the day swimming, we'd come up to take a nap and get ready for the evening, and while we were at dinner, they'd clean up again. Very nice!

Speaking of dinner, this brings me to my first con...

The resort charges a preminum for everything. Water is close to $8, liquor drinks usually a tad more. Beer is $5.50 - a relative deal! If you are a big drinker, be sure you get the schedule for the rotating Happy Hour. 2-4-1 all day long - depending on the bar.

Food was by far the most ridiculously overpriced. We had the buffet a few times. Breakfast was $25pp, dinner $29 (and that was one of the cheaper nights!). The breakfast was barely more than what you would get at a Mariott free continental breakfast, albeit in a much prettier setting. Dinner was tasty (it was Latin Flavors night), but instead of using chicken breasts in the dish, they used the much cheaper wings. If the dish calls for wings, by all means use it. We've been known to belly up to an all-you-can-eat-wing place once or twice, but I don't like paying $30 for it.

Each morning they served free coffee outside the Tomatoes restaurant, but I would have preferred they have a small counter service location where I could buy bagels, tea and the like. Sometimes I want a simple breakfast and not pay a fortune for it. Being that the resort is so secluded, I guess they think you have no choice. And unless you rent a car to hit the grocery store, it's true.

If you are looking to stay close to Cabo, this is not the resort for you. While it was never more than a 10-ish minute drive into town, the cabbies charge a premium for their services. You can expect to spend at least $20 each way (for 2 people). There is a shuttle from the Sheraton to the mall, but if you go when it's hot, you will be sweating as soon as you get out of the car. Does not make for a romantic evening if you arrive soaking wet to the restaurant.

(By the way, do not tip the cab drivers. They have a strong union and are doing quite well for themselves.)

On to restaurant reviews - we ate at Tomatoes for breakfast and dinner. Barring any issues I have with cost, I can say I enjoyed all the meals I had there.

We had sushi downstairs at the sports bar which was quite good. There were supposed to have bar food, but when asked for a menu they didn't have one. Not sure why.

We ran over to the Vacation Club side once for breakfast at Girasoles. Really nice location - it's high atop the VC lobby. As an added plus, the meals were more reasonably priced.

Our favorite place to dine was the poolside bar - Sirenes. Every meal there was yummy - chicken fingers, quesadillas, BBQ sandwich, tuna wrap. All perfectly hit the spot.

And of course I have to tell you about our absolute favorite place to hang out on property - the swim up bar! If you go from 4-5, it's Happy Hour with 2-4-1 drinks. I can never drink 2 pina coladas (besides that would be like 900 calories), so I ask for one and to double up on the liquor.

It is a nice resort and overall I was impressed with the locale, grounds and service. Would I return? Probably not - only because it was such a chore to go into town, I'd rather stay closer and experience Cabo more. But if you are looking for a relaxing vacation and don't mind the price, it's a great choice.

Got a vary good price on expedia. Booked it after reading reviews on trip advisor. My wife was having a special birthday. I e-mailed this info to the hotel and they had a complementary surprise waiting in our room. Chocolates and strawberries with a birthday note. This was way above and beyond what I expected.

We loved the pools, view and service. Even though we were aware from previous reviews that we could not access our rooms until 4:00, it was a hassle to wait around. Therefore schedule your flight accordingly. We will definitely return.

My wife and I stayed at the HDM July 28-August 4 and we thouroughly enjoyed it. As everyone says the grounds are spectacular, very well maintained. The room was nothing extraordinary, but was all we needed. The pools were wonderful, however they did get a little dirty toward the end of our stay. It is nice not to have to deal with a towel card. The drinks are very expensive (as is everything else in Cabo), but follow the happy hours. We rented a car (great idea) so we were able to get beer, gin, tonic, margaritas, etc. in town. We took a soft sided cooler and just made our own drinks at the pool. That saved a lot of money.

The people are generally nice and helpful, but we heard a couple complain about a pool waiter being rude after they tipped him a small amount due to the slow service.

The snack bar by the main pool had pretty good lunch selections, but again expensive.

We ate at Pithayas one night and it was very good. We also ate at El Restaurante at the Esperanza, which was very comparable to Pithayas, but at a nicer, more exclusive resort.

Overall we had a wonderful time. Feel free to email me any questions.

Fortunate to "trade in" via RCI. This is a very nice TS and the hotel next door is very nice too.
Place is so lovely. Not many oceanview rooms so you may view instead the very lush plantings, which are fabulous and attract beautiful, song-happy birds.

Needed to stake out a place at the pool early if we wanted a best of best view of both the infinity pool and the ocean.
Sometimes poolside service was very slow..just about the only issue that came up day to day.

This place is rustico and hacienda style, not the modern, cold style that is becoming more common in Mexico. Many beautiful fountains, use of talavera and saltillo and strong colors. The exterior of building color choice for each TS building is especially nice.

The rooms are comfortable except for a "too firm" couch. Beds are good and our room didnt pick up noise from people at nighttime.

Would for sure stay here again. We toured the brand new/still in construction place just north and right next door: Hacienda Encantada. WOW. It too is going to be fabulous. Ended up buying there and getting good preconstruction price.

The Hacienda Del Mar is the Timeshare section at the Sheraton. You can also read the Sheraton reviews for more info. We were there on an extra vacation through RCI, we got a 3 bedroom penthouse for a week, Monday to Monday for $669!!! Check in was fast and easy but since we checked in early our room wasn’t ready for about 3 hours which was no big deal. They offered us a welcome package but we declined since we were not interested in buying a timeshare. We checked our bags with the bellman and walk around to check out the resort until our room was ready. As most other reviews have mentioned the grounds are beautiful! After checking out the grounds and sipping on margaritas by the pool we went to check on our room. Finally it was ready, we were a little disappointed that it wasn’t on the beach side but the room was too nice to complain. We had a 3 bedroom/3bath room for only the 3 of us, one of the rooms sat empty all week. The master room had a king size bed which was very comfortable with a down comfortable and plenty of pillows. There was a TV with cable both Spanish and English channels. There was an average size closet in the room with a safe. The master bath was nice size with double vanity sinks a private toilet room and large tile shower with a bench in it. The master room had sliding doors which lead to the balcony where there was a small Jacuzzi tub. There were two other bedrooms which both had 2 double beds and bathrooms. These rooms also had TV and a small closet. The main living area had a full kitchen with just about everything you would need, microwave, stove, small counter top oven, blender, frig with ice machine, dishwasher & soap, plenty of dishes and utensils. There was also a washer and dryer stacked unit in the closet near the kitchen, they provided laundry soap too. There was a nice size glass dining room table that sat 6 people. The connecting living room area had a few chairs and a small foam couch like thing that folded out into a bed and would probably sleep one adult comfortably. There was also a large flat screen TV that had cable. From the living room area there was a sliding door leading onto the patio. We had a nice view from our patio of the back pool area and part of the golf course. The floors throughout the unit were tile which made everything load. We were on the 3rd floor in a four story building so we could here the maids early every morning moving stuff around above us. I suggest requesting a top floor room or bringing ear plugs.

There are 4 spanning pools, 3 on the beach front and one back off the beach facing the golf course. Two of the pools on the beach are beautiful infinitely pools. There is a shallow section for the kiddy pool and also a hot tub on the ocean side. However there are no swim up bars in any of the three ocean side pools. But there are waiters coming around often. There is a swim up bar in the back pool near the golf course, there is also a very nice hot tub in the center of the back pool. We never had a problems find chairs by the pool. Many people do come down early and try to save a spot with a towel but the staff will come around and move the towel about once and hour. They actually moved some towels for us on day. They tell you not to put towels down to save chairs but people still do it. There are daily activities at the main pool on the beach. When you check in they will give you a listing of the weeks schedule. They have things like morning power walks, water aerobics, water basketball, volleyball, cooking classes, salsa classes, etc. We brought our own drinks to the pool several times with no problems we also ordered drinks from there happy hour a few times. Ask someone about Happy Hour times, they rotate times at different pool bars throughout the day, we defiantly took advantage of this. The cold frosted drinks were very refreshing when it was 90 degrees.

The hotel offers a shuttle into town once an hour for $10 per person round trip, I think the last return trip from town is at 9 or 9:30pm. We never used the shuttle we always took taxi’s into town, it cost $20 one way. For 3 of us it was more convenient to get a taxi and about the same price split between 3 people. If you have an opportunity to share a taxi into town with others that will cut the cost in half, we did that a couple of times too. The taxi drivers are for the most part very nice and honest, we even had one guy help us carry all our groceries from Costco up to our room, he earned a good tip!

The beach in front of the hotel is nice and quiet with no vendors! There are rocks on both far ends of the beach which are cool for viewing sea life. They tell you not to swim in the ocean because there is a strong undertow. The wave’s crash right on the beach and they are big! We did see a few brave people swimming but I think they were locals. There are many palapa’s on the beach with lounge chairs if you prefer the beach over the pool.

Here is a list of the restaurant on site:
Pitahayas – we didn’t eat there. I have heard it is very good and VERY expensive.
Girasoles – We ate here twice. It was just ok both times. This restaurant is on the third floor and has a fabulous view. We ate there for dinner one night, you could order off the main menu or they have a nightly special which was Fajita’s the night we ate there. All three of us ordered fajitas, I got shrimp. The shrimp was over cooked and they didn’t bring us enough tortillas for three people and never came around again to ask if we needed anything. We also had breakfast here one morning. They have a breakfast special that is $16.99 per person for all you can eat. It’s not buffet but basically you can order any and everything off the menu. Breakfast was just ok, nothing to rave about.
Nido de Tortugas – pool/beach bar, we didn’t eat here.
De Cortez – Steak & Lobster beach side restaurant, we didn’t eat here.
Sirenas – Pool restaurant, we ordered nachos while sitting at the pool one afternoon and they were very big and very good! I think they were $11.
Tomatoes – We are here a couple of times. The pizza is good, the salad’s are good not very filling. The pasta was good, but again not very filling for the price you pay, the tortilla soup was awful!
El Nino Beach Bar on the beach by main infinity pool – we never ate here but we ordered drinks while at the pool and they were always very fast and good. Happy hour is the best so make sure you get a Happy Hour schedule and take advantage for the 2 X 1 drinks.
Delfines swim up bar back pool – We order a shrimp cocktail while sitting by the pool one afternoon, it was not worth the $15.99! I think we got about 7 shrimp and some cocktail sauce.
Sport Bar & Sushi – This was my favorite restaurant. The sushi was very, very good. I highly recommend this restaurant. It’s very small and more of a casual setting with TV’s for the Sports Bar.
La Suerte – tequila Bar we never got a chance to check out this restaurant/bar.
There is also a small convenience store on site for minor things. And there are several boutique style shops for over priced shopping and souvenirs.

Looking forward to our next trip in November! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at jeepgurlz@aol.com
