My girl friend and I just returned from a week at the Hacienda Del Mar. I also read all the posts before we went and pretty much agree with everything written. Thanks to comments regarding renting a car, we managed to get a FREE car at Thrifty by agreeing to attend a time share presentation at Pubelo Bonito Sunset Beach. Can't beat that deal! We were approached as soon as we walked out of customs at the airport. It was great having the car as we went shopping in Costco and were able to go to town nearly every evening at no extra cost.
The hotel is everything that has been written about it. The rooms are great. We had a studio which had a huge bathroom (including shower and jacuzzi) two very comfortable beds, high quality linens, and a large kitchen, inlcuding a large fridge. I've stayed at quite a few resorts and this was definitely the best room! We especially appreciated all the fresh towels provided on a daily basis.
The resort is very spacious and you never feel like anyone is on top of you. There are always plenty of chairs and the many pools offer lots of choices. However, I think that their pool service is poor. They could do with more waiters! When we were there people often had to go find their own drinks and/or food. It was very hard to catch a waiter. One gripe I have is that they don't offer 2 for 1 on the non alcholic drinks during happy hour. Not everyone drinks! This is the first resort I've been at where they penalize you for not drinking alcohol! Drinks are expensive and the food too, but as mentioned in previous posts, it is to be expected!
One great little restaurant we went to (my husband and I have also been to on previous trips to Cabo) is the La Palapa (The Gus) which is right behind Squid Roe in the downtown area. I can highly recommend it! Gus is the owner and he will take good care of you. Food is great. I don't know the exact street address but any taxi will know it.

We stayed in a three bedroom unit. I was told I would have an ocean view but that didn't pan out. Peekaboo was more like it. Everything else that has been written is dead on. We had a party of 8 and never had a problem finding pool chairs. If you don't want to pay the $8 for a drink the happy hours rotate from pool to pool. At some point in the day one of the 4 pools is having a 2 for 1 special. The food is expensive but very nice. We went fishing and caught a bunch of yellowfin and a dorado. Tomatoes cooked the fish for us and provided 4 different sauces and grilled it with 2 different rubs. It was very good. The grounds are incredible. Costco is the way to go for food and water. You have to get the hoagie rolls. 12 for .65! Our room had a full size frig and a stove. No oven. Staff was very helpful. Our room was cleaned everyday.

I have to say "thank you" to this website! I read so many reviews of so many hotels before we went. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. It was myself (39), my husband (37) and our son (9). The Hacienda del Mar Vacation Club was beautiful. I was so wary of timeshare pushers at the airport that I was quite surprised to find hardly anyone there! We got in our taxi and went to the hotel. The men at the front desk were efficient and very friendly. I requested an ocean view room and we got it. Unfortunately I should have requested a TOP FLOOR room because you can hear everything above you. I am a light sleeper so this didn't go over very well. My husband requested a different room the next day, but were told there were no top floor room available - but to check back the following day. That second night wasn't as bad as the first, but we were still awoken by their footsteps at 5:30am!!! Where they were going, who knows? Maybe fishing? Anyway, our third day there, we had the option of upgrading to a 2 story "casita" - room 223. It was just what we wanted. It was right above the sports pool area - we could watch our son from the balcony if we wanted. The waves were crashing! Very strong surf -however, a couple of the days were somewhat calm so we played in the surf off to the right where some other people were.
We snorkeled over in the Santa Maria bay one day. That was really cool!
I love warm ocean water - and that's what stands our for me about Mexico. I'm ready to go back!
Just want to cover the food topic. We never had a bad meal, and we ate almost every meal at the hotel. The fish and chips were delicious at Tortugas and the lime margaritas were quite refreshing! My son was thrilled when we discovered Tomatoes has cheese pizza! We spent more money on food than I thought, but it kind of goes with the territory.
We never waited for a table - in fact at some times the place looked deserted! One reviewer hit it on the head - the place is sprawling, so even when there are a lot of people there, you really wouldn't know it. We fould chaise lounges at any hour of the day. Some days I'd be the only one at one of the smaller pools from 10am til noon!
The age group here seemed to be from honeymooners to young(ish) families with kids. Even though I have a child, doesn't mean I want to be surrounded by them and we weren't. In fact the kids were very content to just float around in the pool. Oh, and the guy that does the water aerobics in the morning and volleyball games in the afternoon was great!! My son loved doing the activities they had.
All in all, a great trip!

Took my family of 5 (kids 3, 12 and 16)down to Cabo. Our stay at the Sheraton was awesome. The property is beautiful. Excellent service, extremely friendly. Everyone seemed to know english. They upgraded us to an amazing ocean front room. We were never "hasseled" by timeshare people, recieved a phone call from one rep. from our hotel, took the tour and we were very happy with their "gifts" they gave us. Lots of pools to choose from. There's a sports pool, family/kid pool, swim up bar pool, two infinity pools and one larger pool for all. Resort prices $$$$, but this was expected, thankfully there is a Costco down the road. :) Had easy access to any activities off site. We had a rental car which was expensive, but I recommend it.

I highly recommend this resort.

My wife, 11 year old daughter and I just returned from a week at the Hacienda del Mar. We stayed in a two bedroom unit which was part of the vacation club/timeshare part of the resort and although we were not ocean front we did have a very nice view of the ocean from the entire 40 foot long balcony. Yes, the floors are tile which does mean that a lot of the sounds from above do come through the ceiling. We had a family with kids stay above us three of the nights and we could definitely hear when they were running and pushing things on the floor. The other four nights I assume someone else stayed there because we did not hear much at all.

The resort has four pools. Three of the pools were beach front with the fourth along the east side of the resort, away from the beach but offering a swim up bar. We spent most of our time at the two main beach front pools which, thanks to small bridges and inlets, gave a smaller more intimate feeling. It was great to hear the surf break while relaxing around the pool.

During our entire time we did not once have difficulity finding three chairs together and we were definitely NOT early risers on this trip. We even found chairs together after returning from a snorkeling trip one day and a shopping trip another. Although we did see a few people blocking chairs with towels, it was usually only for shorter periods when they were either running down to the beach or getting a bite to eat. As for the beach, we did go into the ocean for short periods, but had to watch out for high waves (one flipped our daughter) and jellyfish (one day).

As for eating and resturants being expensive. Yes the resturants were expensive compared to what we are used to paying on a daily basis in Kansas City. They were, however, no more expensive than any of the resturants we visited in downtown Cabo and I would much rather spend $20 - $40 on a well prepared meal at Girasoles, Tomates or de Cortez than a equal amount or more for a very tasteless, touristy meal at, for example Margaritaville or the Dorian located in the harbour area. By the way, if you're at Girasoles, I can highly recommend the beef stew. It is spicy to begin with and comes with chopped onions, chopped peppers and cilantro on the side. Mix these three ingredients into the stew and each bite has a different taste.

All in all it is a great resort which anyone should be able to enjoy. Just keep two things in mind - "Just say NO" and the timeshare people will leave you alone and "Just say YES" to the iced towels, absolutely fantastic on a hot day.
