We Stayed at the Hacienda Del Mar Vacation Club/Sheraton with our
family from Aug 11-18. Overall we had a very nice enjoyable stay.

Upon check-in a sales person wanted to give us the welcome package. We
declined since we know it was actually a timeshare presentation. She
did pester us a couple more times before we left but a simple "no
thanks" and we never were bothered again.

The room we exchanged for through RCI was a 2 bedroom/3 bath Presidential Suite w/full kitchen living/ dining area and washer and dryer.
The first room they gave us I was not happy with.
It had a fairly small patio area overlooking the Vacation club check-
in area and parking lot. Fortunately I knew through prior experience
not to have the bellman bring up our luggage until we viewed our room.
We went back down to check-in and informed them we preferred something
more private didn't have to be ocean front a garden view was fine.
They gave me a few options. We chose the top floor facing the west
golf-course that also had a beautiful ocean view. This room also had a
large patio area which was nice.

The beds and linens were top quality and very comfortable. The kitchen
was well stocked. The furniture and overall ambiance was that of a
rustic Spanish style which was pretty. A couple of minor complaints
one was the living room couch that also serves as another bed was very
small and too soft. It was kind of like one of those fold-able IKEA
couches that I thought a little odd in this space.
Also there is no DVD player in the rooms that I also thought a little
odd since most timeshare resorts have them in the living rooms. You
could either rent them for $15.00 a day or $30.00 for the week. We
bought one at Wal-mart for $40.00 and brought it back home with us.
Worked well for us since the next resort we stayed at for the second
half of our trip also did not supply one.

The entire resort is immaculately manicured with beautiful lush
grounds. The pool areas were also beautiful and the water temp was
okay. I would have preferred a little cooler but pool temp is often a
problem down in Cabo. The beach views were beautiful and great for
watching the experienced surfers that were the only ones allowed to
actually swim in the water as this area is red flagged.

My husband and I enjoyed the pool side service they always had a happy
hour special drink whenever we asked. The key is you have to ask,
otherwise they'll just give you whatever you request and no even
mention a drink special. The prices were not as expensive as I
thought. pretty average for that kind of resort not outrageous by any
stretch.

We only ate at one of the restaurants "Tomatoes" during our stay
there, we had the buffet dinner which was very good and offered a wide
variety of Mexican dishes and a fajita bar and a nice selection of
salads and desserts.

All the staff were great and whenever we called the concierge for
anything from reservations to housekeeping requests they helped us in
a timely and professional manner. They also did turn-down service in
the evenings if your were out and left chocolates on the bed that my
kids loved. If you happen to be in your room they would knock on the
door basket in hand full of chocolates and ask if you would like any.
Nice touch.

We did pay for the Internet service but since my husband and teen sons
can't live without, it was worth the cost. although there are several
wi-fi spots around the resort.

We knew what to expect staying in the corridor since we stayed at FA
last year and liked the location so no complaints here either. Great
location easy to get to CSL and SJD highly recommend this resort!

Our family with daughter, husband and 6 yr old grandson just returned from a week at the Hacienda del Mar Vacation Club. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 3 bath with full kitchen and laundry facility, very convenient. Although it was a full kitchen, utensils were at a minimum. No oven. Would have been difficult to prepare a whole meal for a group of 5, much less 8, which it did accommodate. Seating in living area also for 5 maximum.

Beds very comfortable with great pillows. Lots of super-sized towels. Liked the fact we could tell them each day when to come clean the room. Cleaning crew always did a great job. Big showers...would have liked a bit more pressure, but always enough hot water.

We tried some of the activities offered daily. Since it was low season we had no trouble with too many people, anywhere on the property. Although it said it had children activities, we never found when or where those were. The arcade was closed for repairs, so there was a little disappointment there.

Staff around the pool was great! Always there to help with umbrellas, moving chairs, towels, etc. Very friendly!

The most disappointing thing about this property was the restaurants. Two were closed for repairs. We tried Tomatoes on a night where there were only 4 other tables of people there, and the service was not good. Food was overpriced, $19.50 for a hamburger, $15. for a Cobb Salad and $10. for a bowl of soup.
High prices for Mexico. Plus the food was only fair. We did not try the other restaurant as we heard similar reports from other guests. If you are going to charge those prices, you had better be great at food, service, everything, because we could go into town and get much better food at better prices.

A couple of suggestions to make this into a 5-star property...... provide the pool mats, pool noodles, and some beach type toys for guests at no extra charge. Offer the golf cart transportation to people. When we came out of the restaurant (after dark and in the rain) the staff with golf carts were just sitting in them. It would have been great to have a ride! Another time I was having a problem walking and our building was a pretty long distance from the pools, restaurants, etc. When I asked how much farther to Building 14 they said just up the hill and to the right, instead of offering to take me there. Directions at the on-line computers would have been helpful. No clues how to get into the internet.
Little things could definitely make this into a 5-star property.

Great location, not too far from town, but far enough to feel exclusive and private.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, luxurious property, variety of pools, short distance from Cabo
  • Disliked — Restaurant service and food, prices of drinks and food

We just got back from Cabo and overall had a great time for first-timers in Cabo. HDM was very nice, a good location if you don't mind being outside of town. We traveled with children so this location we perfect. HDM's Tomatoes Restaurant was great, a different buffet feature each night. We stayed in a 2BR suite as part of our TS exchange with RCI. Our suite was very spacious and the beds were comfortable but it could have been cleaner. We had problems with ants the entire week. The staff is great and very responisve to our needs. If you can, pick up groceries at the MEGA in San Jose del Cabo on your way from the airport to the HDM. Be careful of the time share staff, they can lure very quickly and easily with hard to resist promotions and promises. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! We also recommend the CaboMar Sunset and Salsa Cruise. I was well worth the money. Medena Beach is no place for young children and the beach vendors will make you crazy.

We just retuned from another great week at Hacienda Del Mar in Cabo. The resort was beautiful as before and the staff is on top of every need. We ate at several restaurants in Cabo including Villa Serena at the RV Park ( do not let that fool you), La Casa Country which is country western setting with a floor show by the waiters at around 8:00 PM, Hard Rock which is always good. Zipper's at Costa Azul in San Jose del Cabo was good food and you get to watch the surfers, also do not miss The Hangman in San Jose. We chartered a fishing boat through El Budster and had a great day. Captain Victor and first mate Ismael took us to the fish and we caught two nice size Dorado (Mahi Mahi). Ismael filet them for us and we took them directly to The Sleepless Lobster, where they were prepared three different ways at no charge. Just buy your sides and cervezas and margaritas from them...now that is fresh fish. We also drove to Cabo Pulmo to snorkel and saw a part of Baja untouched by modern technology. Great snorkeling and a beautiful 2 hour drive through the mountains.

  • Liked — Buildings and pools are beautiful.

We bought into a timeshare at Hacienda del Mar vacation club 5 years ago. LOVE THE GROUNDS, love the rooms, love the sea, love the weather...in Oct-Nov. In Feb. a whole different story-"old-timer" owners unfriendly and possessive of the beach and pool chairs-will race you like "poor white trash, as my grandmother used to say, then give you the evil eye if you manage to beat them the next day. It was a fairly closed group, the February Club. Staff is helpless in the face of the moneyed establishment and do nothing to discourage the behavior. We generally kept to ourselves and enjoyed our own company after enough unfriendliness. The much lauded Pitahayas Restaurant was tried three different years and dismayingly predictably terrible in service, with very funny tasting butter, wines not stored properly and overpriced, strangely combined food. We are excellent cooks and wine lovers so learned quickly where not to go. The staff we found to be courteous and helpful, but exhausted in Feb., and it seemed they had to put up with a lot of rude and demanding patrons. We did learn the painful but efficient reservation system. If an ocean front is desired, the request has to be in on the stroke of one year and one minute before the desired time-otherwise, just forget about it. The other units are very nice, but these are considered the primo and there is hot competition. We have given up going there and now use our weeks for trading opportunities in other resorts. This is essentially almost a souless resort with little going for it if you are not a golfer who likes to spend a great deal of money for the privilege.

  • Liked — The resort grounds and layout is beautiful
  • Disliked — The Pitahayas Restaurant and the competition for beach chairs
