We recently had one of the best and most relaxing vacations of our lives! Cynthia Vialta, a manager at the HDM, graciously arranged for a private car which picked us up at the Cabo Airport. Just a note for those of you who have not been to the Cabo airport before, vendors on the inside of the airport have gotten even pushier, even going so far as to say they “needed to see our ground travel confirmation before we could leave the airport”! They make it very difficult, but completely ignore these people and proceed directly outside to where ground transportation is located. This is our third trip to Cabo and each time these vendors get more aggressive, but please do not let this put you off from visiting Cabo. It is a great place to vacation!
The Hacienda Del Mar is a timeshare Vacation Club that shares the amenities of the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Resort. This means that the property contains several great restaurants, some small shops, internet café, golf course, ATM, laundry and other conveniences you can use. Check-in went smoothly. The lobby check in area has complimentary water and juices to refresh yourself upon arrival, as well as car rental, timeshare information and concierge desks. The resort itself is beautiful and immaculately maintained. The layout of this hotel has its rooms located in many separate hacienda style buildings scattered throughout the property, we found the room to be very quiet and never heard any outside noises that disturbed us. Due to the layout and expanse of the property you will likely be taken to your room in a golf cart. Along with several restaurants, and bars, there are four spacious, rambling pools, featuring water falls, a small kid’s area, and shallow areas for wading. Pool chaises and umbrellas are plentiful and pool staff friendly and attentive. We also very much enjoyed the Pool Concierge service, where a gracious young man with a cart of complimentary books, and frozen washcloths stops by your chaise lounge to see if he can be of service in arranging any restaurant reservations. He efficiently arranged reservations for us at our favorite restaurant in Cabo called La Golondrina.
There is also a large gathering area with a beautiful gazebo/palapa. A welcome reception featuring complimentary drinks and appetizers was held on Tuesday evening for owners and guests. The reception featured a mariachi band and free drawing for gifts and prizes. The food and drinks were delicious and there were a few vendors selling beautiful handmade jewelry, cigars and paintings. This reception was a wonderful touch! The beach in front of the resort is extensive and beautiful, but as with many of the beaches in Cabo, the surf can be strong and dangerous. Always check the ocean conditions and warning flags/signs that the resort will place on the beach. There are no lifeguards, so you swim at your own risk. This resort is located in the “Corridor” about 7 miles outside the town of Cabo so be prepared by renting a car or paying for taxis.
Our top floor Master Suite at HDM was spacious, well-appointed and very comfortable, with a large outdoor balcony that served both the living room and adjoining bedroom and wrapped around one side into a private deck for sunning. The suite featured a full kitchen, dining area and living room with foldout couch, coffee table and flat screen TV. The bedroom had two queen sized beds, large Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, sink and private commode area. The bedroom also had a flat screen TV. There are ceiling fans in both rooms and very adequate AC. The resort provided slippers and robes for our use, as well as bringing by a beautiful book on the history of the Hacienda Del Mar, and some small handmade dolls. Every day there was new surprise! The room featured a digital safe. Made service was prompt and thorough each day, providing evening turndown service with chocolates and even washing dishes we left in the sink. FYI: the resort adds a $4 charge each day for the maid service.
I had a wonderful massage and body wrap in the small but well-appointed Cactus Spa. The spa technicians were gracious and very good at their jobs. What a relaxing afternoon! There is a beautiful outdoor court yard complete with Jacuzzi’s, lounge chairs and soaking pools for your use while waiting for treatments. I highly recommend a visit to the spa while staying here.
The hotel features many fine restaurants; we ate at Girasoles, Pitahayas and Tomatoes and we can recommend them all. We also used room service on the morning of our departure; everything arrived on time and just a requested. The service was great!
To sum up, we highly recommend the Hacienda Del Mar to Trip Advisor travelers! The resort did everything in its power to see that we had wonderful vacation. The amenities and service were top notch! We will continue to stay at the HDM whenever we go to Cabo, it is our new favorite place! Thank you again Cynthia and all the staff and management at HDM for the wonderful vacation. Happy Traveling!
Some information about Cabo: if you will have a kitchen in your room and are inclined you may want to visit Costco, Sam’s Club or City Club to stock up on bottled water, beer, soda, or whatever you want to drink during your stay. We also purchased sandwiches and salads for days when we wanted to have lunch on our balcony after excursions and sight-seeing. We had a blast during our morning excursion with Cactus ATV Tours on 4 wheel ATVs. This excursion was a blast, the ATV’s were easy to ride and the scenery was beautiful, this was an exhilarating thrill ride! The guys at Cactus ATV are professional, safe, courteous and lots of fun. Some restaurants to check out in Cabo San Lucas: La Golondrina for excellent lobster dinner, we highly recommend the Lobster for 2! We also ate at Mi Casa for great Mexican food, drinks and fun lively atmosphere. Cabo Wabo is an excellent place to have a drink, Margaritas are pricey and potent, but worth it! We also had an excellent lunch at the Fish and Shrimp Company (formerly Shrimp Bucket) in the Marina area of the Paradiso Mall, best shrimp in town!
