As preface to the review, my husband and I are seasoned travelers and usually do two major trips per year. We have been to Mexico numerous times including one previous trip to Cabo, Ixtapa, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta and the Mayan. We have also been to Cuba, Dominican Republic, Italy, Greece, Turkey, France, Germany, Denmark, England, Canary Islands and Hawaii.

This is an excellent, smaller property. The staff are very friendly and helpful and contrary to what I read in reviews, they do speak very good English. I would go back, but only for a week because you can't play in the water. We took America West through Phoenix which worked well and we were able to select the length of our trip with daily flights.

Pros
No wristband
No reservations for dinner. You are given a beeper if there is a wait.
Excellent ala carte food including Italian, Asian and Seafood
Top shelf, name brand alcohol including brands like Grand Marnier. House red wine is drinkable (Chilean usually)
Infinity pool is beautiful and large with an excellent swim-up bar. Quiet pool also has a swim-up bar
They appear to have an exceptional kids program with all day activities. In the evening they will take the kids for supper and a movie while parents get to enjoy their evening meal and once a week they have a sleepover available. Not sure if they charge extra but it didn't appear to be the case
Best sun chairs with padded cushion on sturdy wood wheeled frame
Provision of floating mattresses for the pools is a bonus
Unique feature in that they project a movie each night on a large screen on the beach
The anniversary package was wonderful. Breakfast in bed was OK but the special dinner on the beach and the special turndown service was amazing but I won't give it away. Make sure that this is booked when the reservation is made and bring a marriage license
All rooms have ocean view, some better than others
Nightly guitar player/singer on patio outside main lobby/bar until 11

Cons
You can't go in the ocean as the waves and undercurrent are too strong. You can however go for long walks on the beach
As usual, requested a king size bed but didn't get it
Quiet pool was like a hot bath due to the dark concrete
The dark pool towels also got scorching hot in the sun
Need to cab or bus to go anywhere as 1/2 way between Cabo and San Juan

Well, first of all I read these reviews mostly for entertainment , but I felt inspired to write. The Dreams Resort is actually not a 5 star resort but it does have a 5 star view. We went with a wedding party so some of the details of the trip were already handled for us, so our transportaiton to and from the airport was a breeze. I would first like to highlight some of the over all things about the hotel and then move into individual topics.

I think some people have to remember this is still Mexico and it is still some what of an impoverished country and things like rain will happen but generally the people at the hotel will try to help you. I was taken a bit back by a far number of employees that did not speak english but they still tried to help you.

Checking in was not a problem, you give them a credit card, they take your bags to your room and fairly quick and painless.

Rooms:

The rooms are nice, the television worked, the air conditioning is outstanding. Our room was a meat locker...However....the phone did not work and the safe was not working. The phone was fixed after 3 trip and one call to the front desk and 2 days later...The safe...well they never fixed it..They called and said we had to be in the room to fix it, but since we were not there much I just let it go. I guess that was for security reasons in case something was to come up missing. Yes, the bed are hards and the pillows are not cofmy and cozy but it is just pillows...This is not a room you would find at the "W" more Embassy Suites maybe. The room had a couch and the bathroom was stocked with nice toiletries. It is a shower tub, a big tub, and kind of high to get into. The refrigerator was always stocked with beer, water, soda, and juice, and that is unlimited as well. Some rooms are 4 number rooms...ie 2244 and some are 3 number ie 224...I think they have limited cleaning people so our room was never cleaned by 5:00 pm...Annoying yes, but our friends room was cleaned by Noon so I think it was all where you located. I found it funny cause the room would be clean say by 5 or 6 but then like 2 hours later they would come back and have a turn down service and put mints on your pillow...Nice touch but literall it would be 2 or 3 hours after the room would be clean and someone would come knocking on the door. I forgot to mention this...which I think is a great touch, the rooms have a dvd players, and you can rent dvds at the hotel. Which was excellent. Of course our was not plugged up but we managed to work our fingers back there and plug it in..Oh and they have robes and slippers in the room for you.

Customer Service:

Most people here are friendly...The conceirge was excellent. I had a problem with a tour I booked prior to arrival and he called and took care of it for me. The front desk people did not have any change or change at least a 20 into smaller denominations...So come prepared with a lot of small bills or if not you can do it in town. The bell people were extremely helpful and friendly as well. Trying to order food or drink at the pool area was a little difficult. You have to find the waiters and most of the time they are off to the side talking to themselves..The swim up bar you could get drinks at but you would have to go back into the pool and walk across. I think if I had to say if something needed to be improved, it would be more attentiveness of the waiters. I could walk across myself no problem..but not so easy for people with 2 kids in the pool or a small infant they have to always have their eyes on.

Pools:

There are 3 pools technically...THey have a big infinity pool which looks right into the ocean and drains into a shallow pool. They also have a little water slide right next to it. The chairs and the towels were comfortable...I found it funny that they actually do not give out towels when it starts to rain a little...I guess they think no one will go into the pool. The water was warm and it was clean. When we went, yes there were kids there, but hey they are on vacation too. They can not be avoided..If someone really wants to avoid kids...then stay at an ALL Adult Resort. The pool in the back is much quieter and still nice. The hot tubs are not heated would have been nice. The music at the pool was something new everyday...Sometimes...techno, sometimes very loud, sometimes heavy metal.

Food:

Yes there are flies when you eat, sometimes annoying but if you know this coming in you will be alright...They are even around when it rains...Breakfast was great, a lot of choices of foods, drinks, sweets, plenty of places to sit. They have a sushi restaraunt, an itatian restaraunt, an american buffet, a seafood restaraunt, and a grill for hamburgers and hot dogs at lunch. All the food was good and the service at the restaraunt was great. It is not 5 star food but it is good food. If you are going there for 5 star dining then maybe go into town and pay for it. This hotel is all inclusive and they try to have enough variety for everyone and everything was tasty to me. You have to sign your room and yoru name for everything you eat or drink, no receipts for you.

Things to do/Entertainment:

One of the big pluses of this hotel is that they offer a movie on the beach every night on a huge projector....So you can sit in a lounge chair on the beach, sit in the pool, sit in the bar area, or if you are lucky, look from your room and watch a movie. They have ping pong tables around and they try to organize games of beach volleyball or water volleyball or water polo everyday..There is a list of activities in the front of the hotel everyday about what there is to do and they put a list everynight in your room...SO there is no excuse for not knowing what to do or if there is something to do...They also have little things like beach walks to do. The hotel offered a 3 hour snorkel tour at a local beach for $5 with transportation. You have to get involved if you want to do something. You can ask the conceirge or they have a tour desk right there in front. If you ignore the time share people they will ignore you.

Transportation:

The hotel offers a shuttle for $6 each way into downtown but you have to decide what time you will comeback if you prepay. Basically, it is who gets into the bus first when you see the van on pick up...Sometimes it was full, sometimes you had to wait another half hour, or sometimes you just got right on. Did not do the cab or the bus so do not know about that. I think we paid $33 for the ride from the airport to the resort but I do not know if that was because of the weddingt package or what.

Extras:

The internet at the hotel was $10 for an hour so if you really want to use the net just go into town for more than half that. The drinks at the bars were good, they do not have top shelf but they do have some variety. DO not expect the same drinks you have at home either most of the drinks are basic. And it does not hurt to give a Dollar every now and then. THe people here do not expect tips and do not beg for them so to speak at other resorts, but they are appreciative. The hotel kind of has a confusing lay out but you figure it out after a while. The spa was great, robes are a little short, so bring your own from the room..The gym has a lot of cardio equipment but only one bench for free weights.

Overall a good experience...Would stay there again..No complaints really. I think sometimes people have 2 high of expectations...Remember you are on vacation...I do wish though they just had a coffee bar. Hope this helps...

We went on our honeymoon to Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort and Spa and had an extremely disappointing experience. We have done extensive international travel and have never stayed in a place with such such disgusting accommodations, service, etc. Our room smelled of urine (even after we requested cleaning service), there were long lines at all of the restaurants, aournd the hotel itself was mold, leaky ceilings, and at one point the entire ceiling around the stairs had caved in therefore blocking access to the stairs. I wished that I would have checked this site before we went to the hotel; we would never would have gone.

During our three wees visit to Mexico this July, we also visited Cabo San Lucas with its great nature scenerey like beaches, the arch rock and also the desert in the north. The stay at Dreams Los Cabos was just the perfect place. We thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic location right at the sea side, and the generous set up of the pool and outdoor area. We will never forget the experience of enjoying breakfast on the terrace right in front of the breaking waves and the great sound and smell of the ocean. Not to forget the friendly service of the resident manager Jean Louis: he and his staff did everything to make our holidays an unforgetable memory of Cabo San Lucas.
This time we did spend vacations in this part of the world as we do come from central Europe, but the Mexican hospitality at Dreams was beyond our expectations. We will tell our friends how much fun we had.
Yours sincerely,
Jürg Fischer

I spent a disappointing week at Dreams Resort in San Jose del Cabo. It was very "Americanized", and had no Mexican ambience to speak of. The music at this resort was either a soft background jazz at the pool or in the restaurants (Italian music at Portofino restaurant) or a Canadian guitarist playing James Taylor nightly in the Lobby bar area. I am bilingual in Spanish and so I was able to get some feedback from the employees there; apparently there were complaints from the (largely American and Canadian) guests that other music was too loud and disturbing, both at the pool and in the Lobby bar area. Would have been nice to have some Latino music, atmosphere, maybe even dancing in the lobby (how about free lessons first?). This is a very beautiful resort in an extremely picturesque setting with good service; the atmosphere is almost sad, however. Relaxing is fine, and certainly should be an option, but this was an unpleasant extreme with no options available but to turn in early, unless drinking in silence is your idea of fun. The food was fair, best at Oceana, even sometimes good there. The buffets were very bad as far as selection of food, and taste. They also suffer from an uncontrolled fly problem. It is also not possible to swim in the ocean at Dreams due to rough water. Very disappointing as well. The staff working in guest activities was for the most part invisible; they did not engage the guests nor extend themselves to encourage participation or a friendly atmosphere. Poor or no information about offerings at this resort. I had a massage, the highlight of this trip. The spa is wonderful. I mostly spent a relaxing week, but it was approaching boring and I felt trapped there. It is difficult to move from here unless you rent a car ($60 per day) or pay a taxi $35 US dollars one way into Cabo San Lucas where there are shops, restaurants, a beach to swim, etc. I've traveled extensively in Mexico, and worldwide; I would not return to Dreams Resort.
