A group of 4 of us stayed at Dreams Cabo 1/27/06 - 2/3/06. We have travelled the Caribbean for 10 years now and feel that we are very easy to satisfy and know the good from bad. We have stayed at lower rated resorts, didn't pay as much, and had better experiences. In fact, this is the fist time I have ever written a review that was less than great.

First the good: We enjoyed our food, the weather, the drinks, and the rooms were beautiful. We did not experience the wait for tables at meal time that I understand a lot of others did. We must have been lucky in that regard.

The disappointments: 2 Days, we actually had to call to get our room cleaned. Often, the in room coffee pot wasn't restocked. Room service was horrible. It is supposed to be 24/7, so we called ahead the night before for room service for breakfast, as we had a fishing charter booked that left before the restaurant opened. That being said, I made it very clear that we needed it no later than 5:30 a.m. At 5:40, I called and they said it was on it's way. Breakfast arrived at 5:52 a.m. We had to hale a cab at 6:00, so we put our food in plastic bags and took it with us! Rediculous!! There is no way they were busy at that time.

Secondly, we did really enjoy sitting in the hottub when the sun came up in the a.m. We tried ordering coffee for two to be delivered at the hottub from room service. That was a waste of breath. One morning, the hottub had been completely drained. Another night, we went down to it with champaine, etc. and the water was the same temp as the pool. It was only in the high 50's at night, so that wasn't any fun. Disappointing, as it was the last night of our honeymoon. You would think the hottub would be one area hard to mess up if you were a hotel mananger!

The onsite timeshare salespeople were annoying and shouldn't be allowed to approach guests unless requested to.
The service seemed very slow. I acknowledge that there wasn't near the staff as at other hotels, but there also wasn't near the guests. The place didn't seem crowded at all, but yet it seemed as if I was invisable while waiting at the pool bar sometimes. (The bartender at the beach bar was great though!) Just an example, on our very last day of vacation, finally, someone offered us a drink pool-side. I saw waiters all week, but they never saw me!!

Lastly, because the hotel offered both all inclusive and non-all inclusive rooms, the waiters/hostesses were required to ask our room number prior to serving us or seating us. We were all inclusive, which is the only way I would suggest with Dreams, as their meals are grossly overpriced. Good, but very, very expensive according to the menu prices. Back to having to state our room number, we often had to say it at least 6 times from being seated until leaving. It seems as though wristbands may be a better alternative because you also couldn't leave a restaurant without signing your bill too. Tracking down a waiter for that isn't always easy. However, once we simply got up to leave, tired of waiting. Then, they came running!!
As with the meals, the spa was also grossly over-priced. It was a nice spa, but so expensive, the average person really couldn't make the use of it that one would hope for.
In summary, we enjoyed the Cabo area very much. When returning, we will not consider Dreams. Although it was a nice place, it was no 6 star and shouldn't charge as one!!

1. The presentation of the open-air lobby was awesome!

2. Rooms were VERY nice...we had a one bedroom suite...two bathrooms and a great view...only complaint was the hide-a-bed for the kids was bowled and they rolled together...told teh front desk and they comped us a roll-away.

3. The ground were always clean and the pool was spectacular...water perhaps a little cool but felt great on my many trips to the bar to visit Tomas.

4. The spa seemed very relaxing...we had the couple massage under the stars...this was a disappointment since there was a corporate event happening near at the same time...not very romantic or relaxing...explained the situation at the spa and they refunded the money.

5. The food was very good did not go to the sushi/thai restaurant but heard it was good...only disappointment was the last night at the Oceana when they did not have heaters available because no propane...the matre'd was actually rude...we took a deep breath and left...went to portofina and had a great meal...we were not going to let little things ruin a great time.

6. The Explorers Club for the kids was fun...we only once told our kids we needed them to go there (the evening of the massage)it actually became difficult to get them out.

7. The activities desk was a great help and booked all our excursions...a lot of the trips included transportation and many had kids under 12 free or 1/2 off.

8. I was surprised at the number of corporate groups that were there...3 different groups during the week..not a bad thing since my kids made friends with other kids formt he corporate group...just surprised.

9. The evening entertainment was a little cheesy but we always had a great time and teh staff was awesome...if you are looking for spectacular entertainment go to vegas.

10. If I was a timeshare owner at Dreams I would be very upset about there recent price changes. The only complaints we heard were from owners not getting there gauranteed room or the outrageous prices of food if you are not all inclusive ($15 for a dinner salad)...I don't blame them.

I would go back to Dreams in a minute although I probably won't because we like to try new location.

We're just returned from Dreams Resort and there are some things you should know about this place before booking:
First, the good things. The suite was spacious. The staff was pleasant but terribly overworked and befuddled. The morning buffet was very good. The place was beautiful, although the beach is not fine sand and the surf is very rough and no one goes into the ocean (Sea of Cortez).
On the other hand, there are many problems with the place and it is probably the worst run hotel I have ever been at (and I travel a lot). If I were you, I would not book at this hotel.
As soon as we checked in, before we got to our room, a gentleman introduced himself to us as the concierge (he wasn't) and took us to a desk just off the check in desk, at which we were hustled to buy a time-share (although they tried to make it sound like they wanted to help us with our tour plans). This seemed to be sanctioned by the hotel and offensive to us. As soon as I realized that he was trying to sell me a time share, we left and went to the room.
There are five restaurants and the food served does not, often, match the menu. A fruit salad with strawberry sherbet had no sherbet. When we asked the waiter, he simply said they had no sherbet. This is how it was served all week. An insalata caprese with buffalo mozzarella did not have buffalo mozzarella (we know the difference). A salad with goat cheese had mozzarella, and so on. The all-inclusive wine list was comprised of two wines, one bad and the other undrinkable (the Mexican wine actually was the better of the two, if you can believe it). They were happy to sell us wine off of a wine list, however. I thought all-inclusive meant all premium beverages (that’s the way it was presented to me). I didn't expect Dom Perignon but I did expect something drinkable.
They have a long list of activities, most of which were delayed or non-existing. Tennis clinics seemed to go off without a hitch but archery was hit or miss (no pun intended). We'd show up and there would be no one from the staff or they would show up late or they wouldn't know what they were doing. One session was called off, then they told us it was going on, then called off and then started 45 minutes late. The staff was pleasant but untrained, overworked and befuddled.
Yoga was terrible. We were looking forward to going every day. One day we got there and there were 15 people waiting (there were 10 yoga mats for a hotel of over 300 rooms). We waited for 20 minutes and then were told that the yoga instructor was sick. A substitute asked us if any of us knew yoga so we could teach the class. That is how yoga went all week. By the end of the week, no one bothered to go because there was no class.
Other than the breakfast buffet, which was good, most of the food was either not good or awful. We expect mediocre food when it’s all-inclusive but this was inedible at times. Worst of all was the wait at the restaurants. Out of the five restaurants, usually two or three were closed in the evenings for private parties. While we were there, there were two large conventions and several weddings and they received the attention of the staff and restaurants were closed to accommodate them. As a result, and the fact that the restaurants do not take reservations, the open restaurants were insufficient to service the rest of the guests and waits were up to two hours. On the day before we left, I complained to the assistant manager for Food and Beverage and he told me I should come to dinner earlier if I didn’t want to wait. The only help was the concierge (the real one) who had a table set for us at one of the restaurants that were open. All of the individual guests and the time-share owners complained about the wait. It was inexcusable. In all of my travels, I have never had to wait so long to be seated.
There were other problems as well. The pull-out mattress in our room was shot and should have been replaced long ago. The kids’ club was supposed to give beepers to parents when they dropped their kids off (it is in their literature) but they had no beepers and, when I asked about it, they acted like they had never heard about it before. We had to carry a towel card with us to get towels. That was a new one on me and I found is annoying. I couldn't just swap towels for towels. The turn down service sometimes happened and sometimes didn’t. It wasn’t a big deal for us except that when the beds were turned down, a list of the next day’s activities and the open restaurants was dropped off. Since the beds didn’t get turned down, we didn’t know what was (supposedly) happening the next day or what restaurants were open. This hotel may be good for conventions but not for families like ours.

Pre-arranged transportation from the airport is a must, (we used Trans-Cabo with the orange shirts) the time share salesmen at the airport were annoying.
We arrived at Dreams, were offered a tray of cold wet towels to cool off, a bottle of champayne while registering and were given a 1 bedroom suite upgrade.
We had added the all inclusive and were really glad we did. (The price seemed to vary, we paid 60 per person, some paid 50, some paid 85, it seemed like the longer you waited the better the price) The food was really good, we liked El Patio for breakfast (Betty will make you a great omlette and had a great view of the ocean)
Sea Side for lunch and the other 3, Himitsu,Portofino and Oceana were all very good for dinner, the waitstaff was very professional, neat and polite, they had chimeneas lit at night at most tables which was very romantic and warm too.
We were there Feb 4th thru the 14th. The days were 85, sunny and breezy, the nights were 60 with no rain.
Maid service could have been a little better, we were short coffee and towels a couple time - no big deal. Just call down and someone would bring it up.
We tipped about 20 dollars per day, (10 for dinner, 5 for lunch, couple bucks for buffets and a buck a round of 2 drinks) Some people didn't tip at all, I don't think we got any better service for it, but having lived off tips before thought it right.
The bus to Cabo was very easy and only cost 3 dollars for 2 people each way. (versus 24 for a cab)
We had to be at the marina at 6:15 am for a fishing trip, we were out front at 5:30 in the dark and caught the bus no problem.
We listened to a timeshare speal for 2 hours from Dreams (Downtown) and got some very good discounts for it. The timeshare was very expensive and had to say no about 20 times but for instance we only paid 171 dollars for 2 people on a shared (with 2 other couples) 35 foot fishing boat for 8 hours.(We caught 3 marlin)
We saw grey whales almost every day from the beach, some were only 50 yards from shore and stayed for 45 minutes.
One downfall was 2 large groups of 140 and 300 people that had private parties we were not allowed to join. The announcers and music were pretty loud.
Not quite sure about the bad reviews for this resort on tripadvisor, my wife is pretty picky about cleanliness and about food and was more than happy with everything. We did hear the dish clanging some reviews mentioned, it did not really bother us, we could still hear the waves crashing in or you could close you doorwall.
We would definitely go back to Dreams and if we didn't have a timeshare already, would look into one here. (In the corridor) We didn't like the town of Cabo San Lucas that much, it was to busy and kinda dirty but the corridor was much more relaxed and peaceful.
The resort itself was about perfect.

We returned on the 13th. Our room was a suite, we had not asked for one but that is what we got. Absolutely fabulous room!
The food was great, the flank steak melted in your mouth.
The sea bass was grilled perfectly. The fish tacos that we read so much about....pass on it. Neither my wife or I liked it. We highly recommend this as a place to go and relax. There isn't alot to do at the resort but if you want some quiet time, this is it.
As far as the drinks, we have never had better. Beer is Corona or Pacifico served in the bottle. My wife likes Baileys on the rocks and I'm a scotch drinker. No disappointments there.
So for rooms, drinks, food, and cleanliness, this resort ranks an excellent.
