We were at Dreams in Cabo San Lucas from Dec. 12th-19th,2005. What a wonderful vacation we had. I will summarize by catagory and give a detailed account of the things that I felt were important.
We booked this vacation by booking the flight and the hotel separately. We were responsible setting up our own transportation to and from the hotel. We emailed the concierge (Enrique) directly and asked him what the best way to do this. He gave us 3 options - Limo, taxi, shuttle. We opted for the shuttle and it was $28 usd for us both to get to the Dreams resort. Enrique gave us great information about avoiding the timeshare hoopla at the airport and it worked like a charm. We told Enrique we wanted to the shuttle and he set it up and gave us confirmation numbers. The shuttle was there and we rode along with 3 other couples going to different resorts. It was about a 25 minute drive. We arrived at Dreams at 3pm expecting our room to be ready, and it wasn't. We were given a glass of champaign and told that we could eat and drink and use the resort and to check back in about 1/2 hour. About 1 1/2 hours later our room was ready. We had room 619 which had a spectacular view of the pool and ocean but had 2 double beds. We had requested a king and were told to check back the next day. The room was beautiful, clean and had a balcony (although it was small). The next day we check with the front desk and we were given our choice of a couple of rooms with king beds and we settled on room 419. The view was blocked slightly by a large palm tree, but it still was amazing and had a much larger balcony than our previous room. The beds are pretty uncomfortable, so request many pillows your first night.
The alcohol was great, we tried many different drinks. You had to pay for premium bottles of wine, but the house wines were included in the all-inclusive package.
The food was 'okay', we thought there could be a better selection, but the food we did eat was outstanding. The bacon wrapped tenderloin at the seaside grill dinner, was delicious.
We only had to wait one time the entire week for a table, which was so nice. They don't take reservations and you really didn't need them. We ate at different times during the week and never had any problems.
Dress code in the evenings was stated long pants, skirts, dresses, etc. I wore nice pants the first and second night and then I wore jeans and capris the rest of the week. The evenings really cooled down quite a bit and I actually wore a jacket to dinner one night. The breakfast buffet is wonderful, with many choices. We enjoyed the fact that it was open till noon everyday, so there was no rush to get to breakfast early. I personally thought the desserts were terrible. We finally got a hold of chocolate ice cream which was really good, but I never felt like my sweet tooth was taken care of. A minor thing, but it would have been nice to have just a plain cheescake instead of mango cheesecake, etc.
Most everyone spoke pretty good english, or at least helped try to figure out what you were saying. They appreciated us trying to speak in spanish as well, and taught us how to say certain pharses. The entire staff at Dreams was wonderful, fun and smiled all the time.
The night time activities were fun, but ended by 10pm. If you want a happening night life the resort is not the place to find it. I'm sure downtown Cabo had some good bars, but as far as the resort, it was quiet by 10:30pm. This worked good for our schedule and we weren't so exhausted the next morning from staying up late, that we really enjoyed ourselves.
We used Baja Adventures for 2 tours. We took the city tour- which was very informative and gave you a quick overview of the two nearest cities to Dreams. You also took a glass-bottom boat from the marina out to lover's beach and you get to see where the Sea of Cortez meets up with the Pacific ocean. We were told that pretty soon the whales will be making their appearance and I bet that would be an awesome site. The second thing we did with Baja Adventures is took the wave runner trip to Chileno Bay to go snorkeling. The van picked us up at Dreams, drove us to Crown Plaza, we were fitted with wet suits (optiona) and given a double wave runner. This was by far the highlight of our trip. We took a 45 minute waverunner ride along the coast (we went in front of the Dreamsresort- that was so cool), and ended up at Chileno Bay to go snorkeling. The snorkeling equipment was provided by the quide. The quide went into the water with us, taught us how to snorkle, and took us around the small coral reef there. I had a chance to hold a sea urchin and that was totally cool. After about 45 minutes of snorkeling, we drove the wave runners back to the Crown Plaza. This trip was phenomenal, we were a little sore the next day because we were jumping waves and having so much fun! If you like this kind of thing, this was definitely the thing to do. We had Csar (pronounce Ceaser) as our quide for the city tour and our transportation for the wave runners. He is superb! He speaks fluent english and spanish and answered all our questions in length. He has a wealth of information to give and we could have talked to him all day. He is very knowledgeable about Cabo and knows the in's and out's of everything. He is very much into bird watching and bird calls. If you are coming down and have any books related to these topics please bring them for him. He said that is one thing he can't get a hold of in the Baja-very expensive. There is a desk in the lobby for Baja Adventures, ask for his tours- he was worth it. He also is expecting baby number 4 any day now!!
When I was thinking of what paradise would be, this resort matched that and more. It was perfect. Please email me if you have any specific questions, I would love to answer them. Unitedrn1016@aol.com.
